There is no single best AI plugin for every WordPress site. Choose by the job you need done and the tools you already use: AI Engine is the flexible pick for custom workflows, Jetpack AI Assistant suits Gutenberg writing, Rank Math Content AI adds AI features to Rank Math SEO, and Elementor AI or Divi AI make the most sense inside their respective builders. For support chat, consider Tidio/Lyro; for cross-plugin automation, consider Uncanny Automator.
Quick picks
| Plugin or feature | Best for | Fits best with | Billing model | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI Engine | Flexible AI tools and custom workflows | Sites needing configurable chatbot, content, or API features | Plugin and AI-provider billing are separate; the listing says users pay providers directly | Requires more setup and management |
| Jetpack AI Assistant | Drafting and editing in WordPress | Gutenberg writing workflows | Jetpack plan or feature terms; verify current limits | Less suited to custom, multi-provider workflows |
| Rank Math Content AI | SEO-oriented content assistance | Sites already using Rank Math SEO | Rank Math Content AI plans and feature limits | Not a general chatbot or site-management agent |
| Elementor AI | AI-assisted visual building | Existing Elementor sites | Confirm current builder and AI plan requirements | Little reason to adopt it outside Elementor |
| Divi AI | AI inside the Divi builder | Existing Divi sites | Confirm current Elegant Themes plan terms | Can deepen builder dependence |
| Tidio/Lyro | Customer support and lead conversations | Sites with recurring visitor questions | Vendor plans and conversation or resolution limits; verify current terms | Needs an accurate knowledge base and escalation path |
| Uncanny Automator | Connecting plugin events and actions | WooCommerce, membership, LMS, and forms workflows | Plugin plan plus any external AI usage | Complex recipes need monitoring and safeguards |
| WordPress AI | Experimentation and development | Staging sites and provider-connected tests | Provider API key and usage charges are separate | Experimental; not the default for production |
These tools are not interchangeable. WordPress.org’s AI plugin directory spans SEO tools, chatbots, provider connectors, image-related utilities, and experimental frameworks. A builder feature or SEO module may also be part of a larger product rather than a standalone plugin.
Best AI WordPress plugins by use case
AI Engine: best for a flexible AI toolkit
AI Engine is the strongest fit when you want more than an editor writing button: its WordPress.org listing describes chatbot, content-generation, editor-assistant, API, and workflow capabilities. It is a framework to configure, not necessarily a turnkey choice for a site owner who wants one simple feature. See the AI Engine listing for its current feature and compatibility details.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Good fit: technical owners, agencies, developers, and sites that need configurable AI tools or provider choices.
- Billing: the listing says the plugin does not add AI-provider markup and users pay providers directly. A free plugin does not make API usage free.
- Trade-off: you manage API keys, provider billing, model selection, quotas, and configuration. More flexibility can also mean more maintenance and security work.
Separate ordinary chatbot or content features from optional capabilities that can execute actions or access files. Treat permissions and those higher-risk functions as security decisions, not convenience toggles.
#1 Best Overall
Jetpack AI Assistant: best for Gutenberg writing
Jetpack AI Assistant is aimed at assistance inside the WordPress content workflow, including drafting, rewriting, summarizing, and generating titles. It is a natural option for writers who want help while editing rather than a separate configurable AI framework. Jetpack describes its writing features on the Jetpack AI Assistant page.
- Good fit: bloggers and editorial teams working in WordPress who need text transformations and drafting support.
- Trade-off: it may duplicate a separate writing service you already use, and it is less suited to custom provider selection or broad automation.
- Before subscribing: confirm current request limits and whether the feature is bundled with another Jetpack product.
Rank Math Content AI: best for Rank Math SEO workflows
Content AI is a module in Rank Math SEO, not a separate SEO suite to install alongside it. Rank Math describes features for SEO-oriented writing and optimization, alt text, internal-link assistance, semantic keywords, and other workflows on its Content AI page. Availability can depend on plan and feature limits.
On August 16, 2026, the page displayed annual-billing prices of $4.99 per month for Starter, $7.99 for Creator, and $11.99 for Expert, with renewals shown as $6.99, $11.99, and $18.99 per month respectively, plus tax. These were prices displayed on that date; crawled versions differed, so check the current checkout terms rather than treating them as permanent rates. Rank Math has also documented its transition from credits to feature-based monthly limits in its Content AI credits migration guide.

Rank #2
- Good fit: sites already using Rank Math and teams that want AI suggestions in the SEO workflow.
- Billing and providers: Rank Math says users cannot supply their own OpenAI API key for Content AI; it uses its own combination of models, APIs, and algorithms.
- Limit: optimization scores, metadata suggestions, and AI-visibility features do not establish that a page will rank or appear in an answer engine.
If the site already uses Yoast or AIOSEO, keep its existing SEO system unless there is a clear reason to migrate. AIOSEO and Yoast are alternatives within their own ecosystems, not substitutes for chatbots or general AI frameworks. See AIOSEO and Yoast SEO.
Elementor AI: best for existing Elementor sites
Elementor AI’s main advantage is that its assistance sits in the Elementor visual-builder workflow. It is a fit for users seeking help with copy, code, layouts, widgets, or styling while building in Elementor—not a universal AI layer for all WordPress editors. See Elementor AI.
Generated CSS, HTML, and layouts still need review at responsive breakpoints. AI output can be generic, and a layout built around builder-specific modules may be harder to move elsewhere. Do not switch builders solely for its AI features.
Rank #3
Divi AI: best for existing Divi sites
Divi AI is most sensible for a site already built with Divi, where generated content and design assistance can live in its existing workflow. It is a poor reason to migrate a Gutenberg, Elementor, or custom-template site into a builder ecosystem. Check the current plan and usage terms with Divi AI; comparison coverage is not a substitute for the vendor’s current pricing.

Tidio/Lyro: best for customer support and lead conversations
Tidio’s Lyro is a customer-support AI agent, not a blog-writing assistant. It can be considered for FAQs, lead qualification, e-commerce support, and escalation to a person. Tidio describes Lyro and its support role at Lyro AI.
- Check which approved site or product sources it uses, whether it links visitors to those sources, which channels it supports, and how a human takes over.
- Keep product, shipping, refund, and policy information current; a bot grounded in incomplete or stale pages can still give confidently wrong answers.
- Test difficult and adversarial questions, then review unanswered conversations. Avoid unsupervised answers on medical, legal, financial, safety, eligibility, or contractual matters.
- Check the vendor’s current pricing, conversation or resolution caps, data retention, and CRM or WooCommerce integrations before deployment. Its pricing page is the relevant source for current plan terms.
Uncanny Automator: best for cross-plugin workflows
Uncanny Automator connects WordPress triggers and actions across plugins and external services. Examples include changing membership status after a purchase, enrolling a course participant, or sending data to a spreadsheet. Its WordPress.org listing describes its integrations and automation role.
Rank #4
It is an automation tool, not primarily an AI writer. Any connected AI service can add separate usage costs. Recipes that send messages, publish posts, change enrollment, issue refunds, or alter records need careful access controls, logging, failure notifications, and human approval. See current plans at Uncanny Automator pricing.
WordPress AI: best for staging and experimentation
The official WordPress AI plugin is an experimental reference implementation for WordPress-native AI writing and editing. It uses provider connector plugins, requires the site owner’s provider API key, and its listing advises testing on staging because features may change. It is better suited to developers, contributors, and experimentation than a production site that needs a stable, polished interface.

- Install the connector for the provider you intend to use.
- Open Settings → Connectors, then configure the provider and API key.
- Test the installed version and its behavior before considering production use.
The listing says actions are not performed automatically without manual approval; confirm that behavior against the installed version and configuration.

How to choose for your WordPress stack
- Need help drafting or editing in the block editor? Consider Jetpack AI Assistant; choose WordPress AI only if you are comfortable with its experimental status and provider setup.
- Need SEO assistance? Start with the SEO plugin already managing your metadata and schema. Choose Rank Math Content AI if you use Rank Math or have a deliberate reason to move to it.
- Need design or layout help? Use the AI feature inside the builder already powering the site: Elementor AI for Elementor, or Divi AI for Divi.
- Need visitor support? Evaluate Tidio/Lyro as a support system, with a maintained knowledge base, escalation, and reviewed answers.
- Need actions across memberships, courses, forms, or commerce? Look at Uncanny Automator for event/action workflows, rather than a writing plugin.
- Need custom AI behavior or provider flexibility? Consider AI Engine, provided someone can manage its keys, permissions, and operating costs.
Compare the real cost, not just the plugin price
Total cost may include a plugin or builder subscription, AI usage, provider API charges, the required parent product, per-site or per-seat limits, support, maintenance, and eventual migration. Identify whether billing is vendor-managed, bring-your-own-key (BYOK), or mixed before enabling features.
For a dated price reference, Rank Math’s August 16, 2026 page display and renewal figures are given above; those values are not guaranteed current. Jetpack’s comparison page has shown a $4.50-per-month signal in a crawled snapshot, but that is not a verified current offer or limit. It also cited Uncanny Automator at $149 per year plus OpenAI usage; treat that as a comparison-page snapshot, not a guaranteed current price. Confirm live terms with Jetpack’s comparison, the vendor, and checkout.
For any plan, check the unit behind a quota: requests, words, images, tokens, feature calls, sites, or seats. Rank Math’s documented move from credits to feature-based limits shows why an old “credits included” comparison can stop being meaningful. Also check renewal pricing, taxes, fair-use terms, expiry, and whether external API charges remain separate.
Privacy, security, and reliability checks
An interface inside WordPress does not mean data stays on your server. Before enabling an AI feature, determine what content or customer data is sent to a provider, how prompts and outputs are retained, whether submitted data is used for training, how keys are stored, who can invoke the tool, and whether logs contain personal information. Check retention and deletion controls against your own obligations rather than assuming a plugin is compliant by default.
- Use least-privilege accounts; avoid giving AI-connected workflows broad administrator access.
- Use staging and backups before testing changes to content, code, users, prices, or settings.
- Where supported, store secrets server-side, rotate exposed keys, set provider usage caps, and monitor abnormal requests.
- Preserve revisions or diffs, require approval before publication or customer-facing actions, and keep an audit trail.
- Plan for external-provider latency, timeouts, rate limits, outages, and malformed responses. A slow response may come from the remote service rather than WordPress itself.
- Review update history, WordPress compatibility, support activity, and what happens to workflows if a remote service or plugin is discontinued.
AI can fabricate specifications, citations, policies, or WordPress code. Use it to draft and transform material, not as an unsupervised source of truth. Generated content is not automatically original, accurate, legally safe, or search-optimized.
Quick Recap
Plugins and combinations to avoid
- Multiple SEO suites: avoid running Rank Math, Yoast, and AIOSEO together as full SEO managers. Duplicate metadata, schema, sitemaps, redirects, or canonical settings can conflict.
- Multiple builders: do not add Elementor or Divi just to access their AI if the site’s existing builder already meets its needs; switching can increase lock-in and migration work.
- Overlapping chatbots or agents: multiple bots may give inconsistent answers, duplicate scripts, or compete for access to customer data.
- Unreviewed automation: do not let an AI-connected recipe publish, refund, enroll, delete, or modify customer records without defined approval, logging, and failure handling.
- BYOK without an owner: avoid provider-key tools if nobody can manage key security, usage ceilings, and billing alerts.
- Experimental tools on production: keep the WordPress AI plugin on staging until the installed version’s behavior and stability meet the site’s requirements.
