AYANEO’s Pocket S Mini shipped with a 4,700mAh battery instead of the originally planned 6,000mAh. In February 2026, the company offered affected customers a free entry-level Pocket AIR Mini or, for certain earlier orders, a full refund plus a $20 AYANEO store voucher. That was a compensation offer tied to buying the Pocket S Mini—not a general giveaway. AYANEO warned it could end the promotion, and public information does not confirm that every US order still qualifies. Check the current checkout terms before paying.
What went wrong with the Pocket S Mini?
AYANEO launched the Pocket S Mini on January 31, 2026, with a battery specification of 6,000mAh. It later said the production handheld would instead use a 4,700mAh battery because of a communication error with its supply chain. That is a 1,300mAh shortfall—about 21.7% below the originally planned capacity.
According to AYANEO’s explanation, early samples used the smaller battery, and the company intended to switch to the larger cell for mass production. The change apparently did not happen. AYANEO said it considered ordering customized 6,000mAh cells and correcting the units, but estimated that doing so would take about three months and could delay delivery until Q3 2026. It chose to ship the 4,700mAh version and offer compensation instead.

That is the company’s account of the production decision, not an independently verified manufacturing investigation. The documented issue is a specification and production-communication mistake; the available evidence does not establish a battery safety defect. Capacity also does not translate directly into a matching percentage change in playtime: actual runtime depends on the game, screen brightness, cooling and power settings.

AYANEO says the 4,700mAh battery is the final Pocket S Mini specification and that it will not produce a 6,000mAh version. Its launch announcement lists the confirmed battery alongside a 4.2-inch, 1280 × 960, 4:3 display, Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 platform, active cooling, and Hall-effect joysticks and triggers. The early-bird price started at $319.
What AYANEO offered as compensation
The February announcement offered one Pocket AIR Mini for each Pocket S Mini purchased. The complimentary model was specified as 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Customers could pay an additional $10 to upgrade the compensation unit to 3GB/64GB. Buyers could select a color subject to stock, and the announcement said multiple Pocket S Mini purchases could qualify for multiple AIR Mini units.

At the time, AYANEO described the included AIR Mini as having an $89.99 value. Its later official store listing shows the standard Pocket AIR Mini at $109.99; those are separate, time-specific price references, not proof that the compensation unit is worth $109.99 today. Check the exact configuration and terms attached to your order.

The offer was presented as a second handheld, not as a replacement Pocket S Mini or a battery repair. The AIR Mini has a 4.2-inch 4:3 display, a MediaTek Helio G90T processor and a 4,500mAh battery, according to AYANEO’s product information. It is a lower-cost Android handheld, not a performance equivalent to the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Pocket S Mini. Its independent uses may make it valuable to some buyers, but it does not put the missing 1,300mAh into the Pocket S Mini.

For a family, collector or buyer who wanted a separate retro handheld anyway, the bundle could be useful. For someone who chose the Pocket S Mini specifically for its advertised battery capacity, a second, less powerful device may not address the reason for the purchase. Any shipping charges, taxes, duties or other regional costs should be checked separately; “free” does not establish that every associated cost is waived.
The refund alternative—and its date limit
AYANEO’s announcement also offered qualifying customers a full refund to the original payment method plus a $20 universal AYANEO store voucher. The stated refund processing time was three business days. The announcement tied this alternative to orders placed before February 2, 2026.

Because the public notice was dated February 3 while specifying a February 2 cutoff, treat that date as AYANEO’s stated condition rather than assume the same refund-and-voucher package remains open to everyone. It is a historical compensation term, not a guarantee of eligibility in August 2026. A current cancellation or return request may be governed by different store terms, order status, region and payment method. Ask AYANEO to confirm eligibility and the refund route in writing before relying on the old offer.
Is the free AIR Mini promotion still active for US buyers?
That cannot be confirmed from the public information available for this article. AYANEO said new Pocket S Mini orders qualified when it announced the compensation, but also reserved the right to discontinue the AIR Mini promotion. The official store listing shows the Pocket S Mini at $319 and the standard Pocket AIR Mini at $109.99, but a product listing or price does not prove that a free unit is included with every current US order.

AYANEO later said Pocket S Mini units were available for immediate shipping in a product update. That speaks to availability at the time of that update; it does not confirm the compensation bundle is still automatic or available in the United States on August 18, 2026. Do not treat February coverage or the continued listing of both products as proof of a live offer.
Before ordering from the US, check the live product page and checkout, and get clarification from AYANEO if anything is ambiguous. Confirm:
- Whether the current offer applies to your order and shipping destination.
- Whether the AIR Mini is added automatically or requires a form, code or separate request.
- That the complimentary unit is 2GB/32GB, or what an upgrade costs and includes.
- Which colors are actually available and whether the selected color is guaranteed.
- Any shipping charges, delivery estimate, taxes, duties or import fees.
- The applicable cancellation, return, warranty and after-sales support terms.
- Whether a refund-plus-voucher option is available for your specific order; do not assume the February cutoff terms still apply.
Should you accept the handheld or pursue a refund?
- The AIR Mini offer may suit you if you are comfortable with the Pocket S Mini’s 4,700mAh battery, would use a second lower-powered handheld, and prefer that device to delaying or cancelling the order. First verify the offer is still attached to your order.
- A refund may be the better choice if the 6,000mAh capacity was central to your decision, another budget handheld has little value to you, or you no longer want the Pocket S Mini. Confirm your current eligibility and terms directly with AYANEO; the original voucher offer was date-limited.
- Pause before buying if the free AIR Mini is the main reason the $319 Pocket S Mini looks worthwhile. Do not include the bundle in your value calculation until it appears in the current terms or AYANEO confirms it in writing.
The AIR Mini is not a substitute for the Pocket S Mini’s missing battery capacity, and the two compensation paths are not necessarily interchangeable in cash value. The free device is a separate product; the refund option returns the Pocket S Mini purchase price under the stated historical terms and adds store credit, which is useful only if you can use it.
