AVADirect’s Clevo P570WM was a configurable, 17.3-inch gaming notebook built around Intel’s desktop-oriented X79 platform—not a preorder opportunity that remains open today. Its appeal was the unusual combination of desktop-socket Core i7 processors, MXM graphics and room for multiple drives in a transportable chassis. AVADirect’s current quick-ship catalog lists newer Clevo systems, not the P570WM.
What the P570WM was
The P570WM was a Clevo barebone: Clevo supplied the notebook platform, while system builders such as AVADirect selected components and sold configured systems. That distinction matters because “the P570WM” did not describe one fixed retail specification. Processor, graphics, memory, drives, operating system and warranty could vary by build.
AVADirect’s P570WM showcase identifies an Intel X79 platform, a 17.3-inch matte Full HD display and support for PCIe x16 MXM-III discrete graphics. The chassis could be configured with multiple 2.5-inch drives and an optional optical drive. Those are platform capabilities, not a guarantee that every unit offered for preorder included the same components. AVADirect’s P570WM showcase records the platform details and one example build. Clevo describes itself as a notebook OEM/ODM manufacturer, which helps explain why its chassis appeared in configurable systems from builders rather than only as a fixed Clevo-branded retail laptop (Clevo).
Why X79 made it unusual
Most notebooks of the period used mobile processors designed to balance performance with power and heat constraints. The P570WM instead used Intel’s X79/LGA2011 desktop platform and could be configured with desktop-class enthusiast CPUs. That made it closer to a desktop replacement with a built-in display and keyboard than to a thin, battery-focused laptop.

One AVADirect-documented configuration used the six-core Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition, listed at 3.5 GHz with Turbo speeds up to 4.0 GHz and a 150 W thermal-design figure. This is an example of a recorded configuration, not proof that every preorder system included that processor. A desktop CPU could offer substantial processing capability for its era, but it also raised the demands on cooling and power. X79 did not make the notebook equivalent to a desktop tower: the chassis, thermal system, power delivery and display still imposed laptop-specific limits.
A documented AVADirect configuration
The showcase provides a concrete snapshot of how one P570WM was equipped:
- Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme six-core processor
- 32 GB Crucial DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM memory
- 480 GB Crucial M500 SSD
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670MX with 3 GB of graphics memory
- 750 GB Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive and 1 TB Western Digital Scorpio Blue hard drive
- DVD±RW optical drive
- Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 wireless and Bluetooth module
- Three-year extended notebook warranty
This particular build shows the platform’s emphasis on configurable storage: an SSD for fast access alongside two additional drives. It should not be mistaken for the universal preorder specification, or for a promise that all options were available at the same price or shipping time.
The dual-GPU version was a separate, more extreme build
AVADirect also documented a review configuration with two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M graphics processors in SLI. That system included a second AC adapter and a converter box, a vivid illustration of the electrical demands of a high-end multi-GPU notebook. It demonstrates what one P570WM configuration could accommodate; it does not establish that dual GTX 880M graphics were standard, or included in the original preorder offer. AVADirect’s review documents that configuration.
Such flexibility was the attraction for enthusiasts: buyers could prioritize CPU, graphics or storage instead of accepting one fixed specification. The trade-off was equally clear. A powerful desktop processor and high-end graphics inside a notebook-sized system meant more heat to remove and more power to supply. The second-adapter requirement on the SLI build also made clear that “portable” did not mean convenient to carry or run away from an outlet.
Performance came with desktop-replacement compromises
For a buyer who needed substantial CPU performance in a system that could be moved occasionally, the P570WM offered an unusual package for its time. Its large screen, configurable components and potential for powerful discrete graphics suited a mostly stationary gaming or workstation setup. AVADirect’s configurations also indicate a degree of component choice beyond that of many sealed consumer notebooks.
The costs were practical, not merely theoretical: a large, heavy class of machine; more heat and likely more fan noise than a conventional mobile-CPU laptop; dependence on external power; and less battery endurance than systems built around low-power mobile parts. The dossier’s sources do not establish exact weight, battery capacity, acoustic measurements or runtime, so those figures should not be inferred. Nor should the old GTX 670MX or GTX 880M configurations be compared with current graphics cards without a properly sourced benchmark basis.

Configurable did not mean universally upgradeable. CPU changes would depend on firmware, cooling and motherboard support; MXM graphics modules are not interchangeable by default, and power limits, heatsinks, vBIOS and connector layout can all matter. Today, the age of the platform adds another constraint: compatible parts, batteries, adapters and service support may be difficult to find.

The historical headline indicates that AVADirect opened US preorders for the P570WM. A preorder is not the same as a system already in stock or shipping immediately, and the available evidence does not verify the original price, precise announcement date, deposit or payment terms, configuration attached to any quoted price, or delivery estimate. Those details should not be supplied as fact without an archived original offer.
Likewise, “in the US” identifies the reported market for AVADirect’s offer; it does not establish that Clevo sold the notebook directly to consumers or that the platform was exclusive to the United States. The machine’s final specification and cost would have depended on the builder’s choices.
Can you buy a P570WM now?
Not as a current AVADirect preorder based on the available catalog evidence. AVADirect’s current quick-ship laptop catalog features newer Clevo systems and does not list the P570WM. A unit encountered today would be legacy hardware—potentially used, old stock, a parts machine or privately assembled—not a currently listed preorder product. The catalog does not establish what may be available through private resale, and no current resale price is verified here.

For someone who simply wants a current Clevo gaming laptop, AVADirect’s newer catalog is the relevant place to compare active systems, but a shared Clevo name does not make them direct architectural successors. Modern machines use newer processors and graphics and have an active retail configuration and support path; they may not offer the P570WM’s desktop-socket X79 or MXM-era tinkering experience.
Who should care about it today?
The P570WM is most compelling as a piece of enthusiast-hardware history or as a project for someone specifically interested in legacy desktop-replacement systems. A buyer considering a used unit should treat the exact installed components and working condition as decisive, and verify that suitable power supplies, cooling parts and replacement components can actually be obtained. The platform’s former configurability is not a guarantee of an affordable or straightforward repair today.
For ordinary gaming, travel or a system that needs dependable current support, its age, power demands and uncertain parts availability make it a poor modern recommendation. The P570WM’s significance is that AVADirect offered a notebook built around desktop enthusiast hardware—not that it remains a practical alternative to today’s gaming laptops.
