The Asus ZenFone Max Shot is a 2019 budget smartphone in the ZB634KL family, identified by Asus as model A001D. It launched with Android 8.0 Oreo and later received an Android 9 Pie update. In 2026, it is best treated as an inexpensive used phone for basic tasks—not a sensible choice for buyers who need current software, dependable security support, 5G or long-term app compatibility.

Specification records are not fully consistent, particularly on memory, display resolution, weight and camera roles. They may reflect regional variants or confusion among ZB634KL-branded models. Treat the table as a guide to reported configurations, not a guarantee for every handset; use the model and software information on the phone and its regional documentation to verify a listing.
What is the ZenFone Max Shot, and why are there other names?
The Max Shot is a standalone Asus ZenFone Max-series phone, not a camera accessory or software feature. Asus maps both ZenFone Max Shot and ZenFone Max Plus (M2) to A001D/ZB634KL, and Asus documentation also uses the name Zenfone Shot Plus for ZB634KL-family material. The names indicate a close relationship and shared hardware-family identifier, but do not establish that every region has identical cameras, network bands, software or firmware.

Display, design and everyday performance
The 6.26-inch FHD+ IPS display and notched, tall-screen format were typical of a 2019 budget phone. The micro-USB port and 3.5mm headphone jack are useful if you already own compatible accessories, but the older charging connector is less convenient than USB-C on newer phones.
Snapdragon SiP 1 is an entry-level 2019 platform, not a modern Snapdragon 1-series processor. It can serve basic tasks such as calls, messaging, light browsing and music, but expectations should be modest for demanding apps, heavy multitasking, image processing and games. There is no directly comparable benchmark evidence here to justify assigning it a modern processor equivalent. If choosing between configurations, 4GB/64GB offers more room for basic use than 3GB/32GB; microSD can hold media, but cannot add RAM or update the old system software.

What to expect from the cameras and battery
The triple rear-camera arrangement combines a reported 12MP main camera with 8MP and 5MP secondary sensors, alongside an 8MP selfie camera. The 5MP sensor’s stated role differs by listing, so do not assume that every regional model offers the same camera functions. Sensor count alone does not establish image quality: for a used phone, judge the camera as a tool for casual daylight snapshots and sharing, not as a match for current phones or a guarantee of strong low-light results.

The 4,000mAh capacity was a substantial battery size for this class when new, but it says little about the runtime of a handset nearly seven years old. Battery health, replacement history, signal strength, screen use and background-app behavior all affect endurance. Check for rapid drain, unexpected shutdowns or swelling before buying; do not treat launch-era capacity as a present-day battery test.

Android version, firmware and safe updates
The Max Shot launched on Android 8.0 Oreo. Asus release notes dated May 2, 2019 document an Android 9 Pie update for the Brazilian ZB634KL software build (Asus release notes). Asus’s support page lists firmware WW-16.14.2009.319 dated November 9, 2023, with an Android security-patch update and APN changes (Asus firmware page).
A 2023 firmware listing is not proof of a newer Android version or a precise formal end-of-support date. It does show that the listed package is not a current Android-generation upgrade; the reviewed Asus material does not establish current Android-version support. Owners should distinguish the Android version from the firmware build date and security-patch information shown for a particular package.

Check the phone before updating
- Open Settings → About and record the model number.
- Open Settings → About → Software information → Build number and note the build and software SKU.
- Download firmware only for the matching model and SKU from the Asus firmware page; follow the package instructions or Asus update procedure.
- Back up personal data, charge the phone and avoid interrupting installation.
- Do not downgrade or cross-flash. Asus warns that the SKU must match—for example, WW to WW—and that an incorrect SKU can cause update failure. Asus also cautions that a system upgrade can result in data loss.
Network compatibility and buying an imported phone
This is a 4G-era phone, not a 5G handset. LTE band support and VoLTE operation depend on the precise regional variant and carrier, so a family name or hardware code alone cannot establish that it will work on a particular modern network. Before paying, confirm the handset’s regional model, supported LTE bands, carrier VoLTE approval and IMEI status with the intended operator. Asus says LTE compatibility varies by region and should be checked with the operator on its regional ZenFone specifications page.
Brazil is the market most closely associated with the launch; the reviewed sources do not establish official U.S. retail availability. A U.S. buyer is likely to encounter an imported or used device, so check local repair options and warranty terms as well as network support. Asus Brazil’s warranty notice says repair coverage applies to products commercialized in Brazil by the named distributor and does not extend to products purchased abroad or imported. Regional support and manual resources remain available through Asus’s Brazilian support page and manual page; that documentation does not by itself mean the phone is sold new or receives ongoing updates.

Should you buy a ZenFone Max Shot in 2026?
Consider one only if it is very inexpensive, in good physical condition and intended for a narrow, basic-use role. Verify the configuration, battery, model, carrier compatibility and return or repair options before purchase. A well-kept unit with a healthy or recently replaced battery may still handle simple tasks, but a low asking price does not compensate for an unusable battery, unsupported apps or incompatible network.
