ASUS’s Snapdragon X Elite notebook leak was real, and the leaked details were mostly correct. The product was the ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED S5507QA, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100. Retailer and regional ASUS listings appeared before the laptop’s May 20, 2024 announcement, exposing details such as its 3K OLED display, 70 Wh battery, 32 GB of memory and 1 TB SSD.
ASUS later confirmed the core specifications. So this is no longer an upcoming leak: it is best understood as a pre-launch report that was subsequently validated by the manufacturer.
What ASUS’s leak revealed
The early information came from prematurely published retailer and regional ASUS listings, not from an anonymous photograph or an engineering document. The listings identified the Snapdragon configuration as the Vivobook S 15 OLED S5507QA.

The same listings reportedly pointed to a Snapdragon X Plus version with 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage. Its processor was identified regionally as the Snapdragon X1P-21-100, although that exact designation and its market availability required confirmation. The original retailer-listing report should therefore be treated as historical evidence, not as a universal specification or price sheet.

Were the leaked specifications accurate?
Mostly. ASUS’s May 20 announcement confirmed the major hardware details, including the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100, 16 GB and 32 GB LPDDR5X configurations, a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD option, the 70 Wh battery and the 15.6-inch 2,880 × 1,620 OLED panel running at 120 Hz.
ASUS also confirmed Wi-Fi 7, USB4, USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1 TMDS, a microSD card reader and a 3.13-pound aluminum chassis. That makes the leak unusually credible, but it does not mean every retailer-listed configuration, keyboard layout, warranty, price or availability detail applied in every country. ASUS’s announcement is the appropriate source for the confirmed platform specifications.

ASUS markets the panel as a 3K display, but its exact resolution is 2,880 × 1,620. Calling it 2.8K or 3K is therefore shorthand; the numerical specification is the clearer description.

What the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 offers
The X1E-78-100 is a 12-core Snapdragon X Elite processor with a maximum CPU clock of 3.4 GHz, 42 MB of cache and an integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU. Its Hexagon NPU is rated for up to 45 trillion operations per second, or TOPS.
That NPU figure describes the capability of the dedicated neural-processing hardware. It is not an overall laptop-performance score and should not be used as a direct substitute for CPU, graphics or application benchmarks.
It is also important not to treat the X1E-78-100 as representative of every Snapdragon X Elite notebook. Qualcomm’s product table lists higher-clocked X1E-80-100 and X1E-84-100 variants. Actual results depend on the processor variant, cooling system, power limits and ASUS’s implementation. Qualcomm’s specifications provide the relevant model-level distinction.
OLED display, design and connectivity
The display is one of the Vivobook’s strongest features. It combines a 15.6-inch diagonal size with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a stated 0.2 ms response time, 100% DCI-P3 coverage and DisplayHDR True Black 600 certification. ASUS lists up to 600 nits of HDR peak brightness and an 89% screen-to-body ratio.

The 120 Hz refresh rate also makes scrolling and interface movement appear smoother. However, the 16:9 aspect ratio provides less vertical workspace than the 16:10 and 3:2 screens found on many productivity-focused laptops.
OLED is not automatically the best choice for every workflow. Brightness and a high refresh rate can increase power consumption, while users who display static interfaces for long periods should consider the general risk of image retention or burn-in and use the display’s protective features. Glare and outdoor visibility also depend on the specific finish and lighting conditions.

The aluminum chassis is approximately 0.58 to 0.63 inches thick and weighs 3.13 pounds. That is relatively light for a 15.6-inch laptop, although it is not an ultraportable in the same class as a typical 13- or 14-inch model. The larger body provides room for a more spacious keyboard and screen, and ASUS includes a lay-flat hinge.
Connectivity is more complete than on many thin laptops:
- Two USB4 Type-C ports
- Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports
- HDMI 2.1 TMDS
- 3.5 mm audio combo jack
- microSD card reader
- Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4
“HDMI 2.1 TMDS” should not automatically be interpreted as support for every feature associated with the HDMI 2.1 standard. Buyers connecting a high-resolution or high-refresh external display should check the exact regional specification for supported output modes.
Battery life: an attractive claim, not a guarantee
ASUS claims up to 18 hours of battery life from the 70 Wh battery. The company says its testing used a preproduction 15.6-inch Vivobook S 15 with a 12-core Snapdragon X Elite processor, 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. ASUS’s product page contains the company’s qualification for the result.
That figure should be read as a manufacturer claim under controlled conditions rather than a promise of 18 hours for every owner. Battery life can change substantially with OLED brightness, 120 Hz operation, browser tabs, video calls, emulated applications, AI workloads, wireless use and Windows power settings. Qualcomm also notes that battery performance varies by device, settings and usage.
The OLED panel and Snapdragon platform may make long unplugged sessions possible, but buyers should compare independent testing for their exact configuration if endurance is the deciding factor.

The Vivobook S 15 was marketed as ASUS’s first Copilot+ PC powered by Snapdragon X Elite. Its AI hardware includes the 45-TOPS Hexagon NPU, and the laptop includes a dedicated Copilot key, an FHD IR camera and support for Windows Studio Effects.
ASUS also lists AiSense camera functions, adaptive dimming and adaptive lock. The distinction matters: Copilot+ capabilities are primarily platform- and Windows-level features, while camera enhancements and certain utilities are ASUS-specific additions. AI certification does not guarantee that every application will benefit equally from the NPU, nor does it guarantee compatibility with older software.

The largest practical issue is not the headline processor specification but the software ecosystem. The Vivobook runs Windows on Arm:

- Native Arm64 applications generally provide the best efficiency and performance.
- x86 and x64 applications can run through emulation, but results vary by application and workload.
- Drivers for specialist peripherals, printers, audio interfaces, security tools and other hardware need Arm-compatible support.
- VPN clients, legacy utilities, plug-ins and developer tools should be checked individually before purchase.
- Games can face additional issues involving graphics drivers, launchers and anti-cheat systems.
This does not make the laptop unsuitable for ordinary web, office, communication and media tasks. It does mean that buyers should verify the exact applications and peripherals they rely on. A Copilot+ label is not an application-compatibility guarantee, and it is unsafe to declare a named program compatible or incompatible without checking its current Arm support and version.
How the Snapdragon X Plus version fits in
The early listings appeared to separate the premium X Elite configuration from a lower-tier Snapdragon X Plus version. The reported X Plus model had 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage, compared with 32 GB and 1 TB for the X Elite configuration.
Because the processor designation was reported regionally as X1P-21-100 and was not clearly established on the referenced Qualcomm product table, it should be treated as an early regional listing rather than a globally confirmed configuration. Buyers should rely on the processor name and full specification shown for their country’s actual SKU.
Who should consider the Vivobook S 15?
The laptop is a reasonable choice for buyers who want a large, relatively portable Windows notebook with a high-quality OLED screen, strong built-in connectivity, substantial memory and the potential for long battery life. The 32 GB/1 TB configuration is especially sensible for long-term multitasking because the LPDDR5X memory is integrated rather than user-upgradeable.
It is less attractive for users who need a dedicated GPU, CUDA or workstation software, guaranteed support for niche Windows applications, anti-cheat gaming compatibility, upgradeable RAM or a taller 16:10/3:2 display. A conventional Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI laptop may be the safer option when legacy drivers and specialized software matter more than Arm efficiency.

What to verify before buying
- Check the exact SKU. S5507 configurations can differ by country in memory, storage, keyboard, warranty and processor.
- Choose memory carefully. Since RAM is soldered LPDDR5X, 32 GB is the safer choice for heavy multitasking and longer ownership.
- Confirm storage capacity. A 512 GB drive can become restrictive after installing applications, games, local files and recovery data.
- Verify application and driver support. Check software vendors and peripheral manufacturers, particularly for VPNs, specialist tools, games and anti-cheat systems.
- Check external-display limits. HDMI 2.1 TMDS does not by itself specify every supported resolution and refresh combination.
- Use current pricing and availability. Early retailer prices, including a reported European price near €1,400 for a 32 GB/1 TB configuration, were historical signals from May 2024—not a universal MSRP or current value.

The bottom line on the ASUS leak
ASUS did leak—or, more precisely, allow the premature publication of—Vivobook S 15 Snapdragon specifications before its May 20, 2024 launch. The main details were largely accurate: the S5507QA uses the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100, offers a 15.6-inch 120 Hz OLED display, supports up to 32 GB of memory and 1 TB of storage, and includes a 70 Wh battery with unusually broad connectivity.
Its buying case rests on more than the leak. The OLED screen, portability and AI hardware are compelling, but Windows-on-Arm compatibility, soldered memory, regional SKU differences and ASUS’s qualified 18-hour battery claim deserve equal attention.
