The ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER delivers its clearest advantages in ray-tracing-heavy synthetic tests, while its gains are smaller and more workload-dependent in rasterization and VR benchmarks. In HotHardware’s January 2024 testing, it clearly surpassed the original RTX 4070 Ti in 3DMark Speed Way, Time Spy Extreme and VRMark Blue Room, approached the RTX 4080 in selected tests, and trailed the Radeon RX 7900 XT in some traditional and VR workloads.

This page focuses on synthetic and virtual-reality benchmarks. These results are useful for identifying architectural strengths, but they are not a substitute for testing every game, headset or driver version.

Which ASUS card is being tested?

The subject is the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB, not automatically the faster-clocked TUF OC Edition. ASUS lists the standard model at a 2,610MHz default boost and 2,640MHz OC-mode clock. The TUF OC Edition is specified at 2,640MHz default and 2,670MHz OC mode. Both use 16GB of GDDR6X on a 256-bit bus at 21Gbps. See the standard ASUS product page and OC Edition page before comparing clock speeds.

The underlying GPU launched on January 24, 2024, with a $799 starting MSRP. NVIDIA’s specification is 8,448 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR6X, 672GB/s of memory bandwidth and a 285W total graphics power rating. Those figures apply to the GPU platform; ASUS’s cooler, BIOS modes, dimensions and factory clocks are board-specific. NVIDIA specifications

Why the SUPER model is different

Specification RTX 4070 Ti SUPER RTX 4070 Ti
CUDA cores 8,448 7,680
Memory 16GB GDDR6X 12GB GDDR6X
Memory interface 256-bit 192-bit
Memory bandwidth 672GB/s Lower
Reference boost 2.61GHz 2.61GHz
Total graphics power 285W 285W

This is more than a clock-speed refresh. The extra shader resources, wider bus and 4GB increase in framebuffer capacity give the card more headroom for high-resolution textures, ray tracing, path tracing and large creative workloads. Capacity is not the same as throughput, however: 16GB can prevent a memory constraint without automatically producing higher frame rates when shader or ray-tracing performance is the bottleneck.

ASUS TUF implementation

ASUS pairs the GPU with a large triple-fan, triple-slot-class cooler, a metal backplate with airflow cutouts, dual BIOS modes and zero-RPM idle fan behavior. The card has three DisplayPort outputs, two HDMI outputs and a 16-pin 12VHPWR connector; HotHardware’s review describes an adapter in the package. ASUS also advertises Axial-tech fans, dual-ball bearings, reinforced power delivery and Auto-Extreme manufacturing. RGB and monitoring functions are managed through GPU Tweak III.

HotHardware observed boost clocks near 2.8GHz, load temperatures below 70°C and fan speeds around 45% in its test environment. Those are review measurements, not guarantees: ambient temperature, case airflow, BIOS selection, drivers and silicon quality all matter. Check card length, height, slot thickness and radiator clearance before buying. Route the 16-pin cable according to the PSU manufacturer’s guidance, fully seat the plug and avoid a sharp bend immediately at the connector.

3DMark Speed Way

Speed Way is a DirectX 12 Ultimate test built around ray-traced global illumination and reflections, mesh shaders and detailed assets. It represents a modern mixed workload rather than old-fashioned rasterization alone.

In HotHardware’s chart, the ASUS RTX 4070 Ti SUPER clearly beats the original RTX 4070 Ti and comes relatively close to the RTX 4080. That result reflects the SUPER model’s additional resources and NVIDIA’s strong ray-tracing architecture. It does not mean the card equals an RTX 4080 in every game: real titles vary in engine, resolution, upscaling and CPU limits.

3DMark Time Spy Extreme

Time Spy Extreme is a DirectX 12 benchmark focused primarily on conventional rasterization, shader throughput and memory bandwidth. It does not include ray tracing, making it a useful counterpoint to Speed Way.

The ASUS card again defeats the RTX 4070 Ti, but HotHardware places the Radeon RX 7900 XT slightly ahead in this test. A wider memory interface helps the SUPER model, yet architectural differences and workload scheduling still allow AMD’s card to lead in a traditional rasterization-oriented result.

3DMark DirectX Ray Tracing Feature Test

This is a focused ray-tracing test rather than a complete game benchmark. It stresses the part of the GPU pipeline responsible for ray-tracing calculations more aggressively than a mixed workload.

NVIDIA’s advantage is especially visible here. In HotHardware’s tested group, the ASUS RTX 4070 Ti SUPER ranks behind only the RTX 4080. Treat that as evidence of strong isolated ray-tracing capability, not a guarantee that every ray-traced game will show the same ranking. Resolution, denoising, shader load, DLSS and frame generation can materially change the result.

Unigine Superposition VR Future

Superposition VR Future uses the UNIGINE 2 engine for a demanding virtual-reality workload. HotHardware places the ASUS card third, behind the RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XT, with only a marginal advantage over the original RTX 4070 Ti.

This is the most important exception to the card’s otherwise strong synthetic showing. VR performance depends on rendering two views, headset resolution, refresh rate, engine behavior and motion-smoothing settings. A small benchmark uplift may still be useful, but it should not be presented as a universal VR upgrade.

VRMark Blue Room

VRMark Blue Room is intended to assess demanding headset-class workloads associated with devices such as HTC Vive- and Oculus Rift-era systems. It can run without a connected headset, so it is convenient for comparative testing.

The ASUS RTX 4070 Ti SUPER moves farther ahead of the original RTX 4070 Ti here than it does in Superposition VR Future, but it remains behind both the RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XT in HotHardware’s ranking. A Blue Room result cannot certify compatibility with a particular headset, refresh rate, game or reprojection mode.

What these charts mean for gaming

  • 1440p: The card is well suited to high-refresh gaming, especially when ray tracing and DLSS are part of the target feature set.
  • 4K: The 16GB framebuffer is more comfortable than 12GB for demanding textures and future titles, but heavy ray tracing or path tracing can still require DLSS, frame generation or reduced settings.
  • Rasterization: The RX 7900 XT can be faster in conventional workloads, as illustrated by Time Spy Extreme and both VR charts in HotHardware’s comparison.
  • Ray tracing and software: NVIDIA retains a strong position in ray tracing and offers DLSS, Reflex, AV1 encoding and CUDA-oriented creator support.
  • Upgrade expectations: Owners of an RTX 4070 Ti should not expect a dramatic transformation. Tom’s Hardware characterized the overall update as moderate, with larger gains in selected memory- or path-tracing-intensive workloads than in its broader game suite. Tom’s Hardware analysis

Who should consider it?

The card makes the most sense for a buyer moving up from an RTX 20- or 30-series GPU, or for someone who values ray tracing, CUDA applications, video work and a 16GB memory buffer. It is also a sensible 1440p high-refresh and assisted-4K option when its street price is well below RTX 4080-class products.

Verdict

HotHardware’s page-3 results show a capable, workload-sensitive upgrade. The ASUS TUF RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is strongest in Speed Way and the dedicated DXR test, improves clearly on the RTX 4070 Ti, and benefits from 16GB of memory and a wider bus. Time Spy Extreme and the VR tests demonstrate the limits of that advantage: AMD’s RX 7900 XT can lead outside ray tracing, and VR gains are not uniform. Buy it for the combination of ray tracing, NVIDIA software and extra memory headroom—not because a synthetic chart makes it an RTX 4080 replacement.
