The Asus ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG is a 27-inch-class gaming monitor with a 26.5-inch viewable tandem QD-OLED panel, 3840 × 2160 resolution and a maximum 240Hz refresh rate. Asus announced its North American availability on April 2, 2025, so it is an available model—not a new unveiling. Its main trade-off against Asus’s pricier ROG Swift PG27UCDM is connectivity: the Strix uses DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, while the Swift is listed with DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20.
What the XG27UCDMG offers
Asus markets the ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG as a 27-inch gaming monitor; its listed viewable diagonal is 26.5 inches. The combination of 4K resolution, a 240Hz ceiling and QD-OLED contrast targets PC gamers who want both fine detail and high refresh rates in a desktop-sized display. Asus’s North American availability announcement is dated April 2, 2025.

The roughly 166 pixels per inch is a calculation from the resolution and 26.5-inch diagonal, not an independent Asus measurement. The 1,000 cd/m² figure is a peak HDR specification, not a promise of sustained full-screen brightness: OLED output can vary with image size, content and panel-protection behavior. Likewise, 0.03ms GTG is a response-time rating, not a measurement of total system input lag.

There is no size contradiction: “27-inch” is the familiar product class, while 26.5 inches is the stated panel diagonal. It is not a different, unusually small esports category. At this size, 4K packs a lot of pixels into a compact desktop area, which can benefit small interface elements and detailed text. Asus says the newer panel improves text clarity over earlier OLED generations, but that is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified result here.

QD-OLED, HDR and care features
Asus describes the panel as fourth-generation QD-OLED and also uses the term tandem QD-OLED on its product page. The display pairs OLED’s per-pixel light control with quantum-dot color conversion. Its wide-gamut and 10-bit specifications suit games and color-rich media, though creators who need reliable color-critical output should look for independent calibration measurements rather than assume those specifications guarantee accuracy.
OLED Care Pro is Asus’s collection of panel-maintenance and burn-in-mitigation tools. Its Neo Proximity Sensor can detect when someone moves away and switch the screen to black, reducing the time static content stays illuminated. A custom heatsink is intended to manage panel heat, while Uniform Brightness is designed to make brightness behavior more consistent as window sizes change. Asus says OLED Anti-Flicker 2.0 reduces flicker by 20% against its previous implementation; that comparative figure is the company’s claim, not an independent test result.

These measures reduce risk; they do not make OLED immune to image retention or burn-in. Use the monitor’s care routines, avoid leaving unnecessary static elements on screen for long periods, and follow the user manual for panel-maintenance settings.

Ports, laptops and gaming sources
The key PC connection difference is easy to miss: the XG27UCDMG has DisplayPort 1.4 with Display Stream Compression (DSC), not DisplayPort 2.1. It also has two HDMI 2.1 inputs and USB-C that carries DisplayPort Alt Mode video and up to 90W of power. That USB-C connection can simplify a laptop setup, but only if the laptop’s port supports video output. The monitor’s USB ports and charging do not automatically make it a full dock; check whether your setup also needs networking, more peripherals or different charging capacity.

Four-kilohertz gaming at 240 frames per second is demanding. The display can still be useful below 240fps: variable refresh rate helps match the panel’s refresh behavior to changing frame rates, and users can adjust game settings or use upscaling to pursue higher performance. Your graphics card, cable, chosen input and display settings determine which modes are available; do not assume every source will deliver every advertised combination over every input. Current consoles are not a practical route to 4K/240Hz, so the ceiling is principally a PC-gaming feature. HDMI 2.1 may be useful for consoles and newer GPUs, but capabilities vary by source and configuration.
XG27UCDMG vs. PG27UCDM
The Strix and the ROG Swift PG27UCDM share the broad appeal of a 27-inch-class 4K/240Hz OLED display, but they are not interchangeable in every setup. Asus lists the PG27UCDM with DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20 and 80Gbps full bandwidth in its ROG monitor-family specifications. The XG27UCDMG instead lists DisplayPort 1.4 DSC.

DisplayPort 2.1’s practical distinction is bandwidth and potential headroom for high-refresh workflows, not an automatic improvement in image quality. The difference matters most if your GPU supports UHBR20 and you specifically want that connection. Otherwise, the Strix retains 4K/240Hz QD-OLED, HDMI 2.1, USB-C 90W charging and OLED Care Pro. Based on the documented feature difference, the XG27UCDMG is the more rational pick when it is substantially cheaper and DP 2.1 is not a requirement; the PG27UCDM deserves consideration when the price gap is small or its higher-bandwidth DisplayPort suits your system.

- Consider it if you have a powerful PC, value OLED contrast and fast pixel response, want high pixel density in a compact 4K screen, or can use USB-C video and 90W charging with a laptop.
- Think twice if your games usually run at 60–120fps in 4K. A less expensive 4K/144Hz or 1440p OLED may make better use of your budget.
- Look elsewhere if you need DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, a large cinematic screen, sustained high full-screen brightness for a bright room, or a display that needs no OLED-care habits. Console-only buyers are also unlikely to benefit much from 240Hz.
Price and availability
Asus announced North American availability in April 2025, with sales through its web store and Best Buy at that time. The official US product page most recently surfaced a $979 store listing in the research available for this article. Treat that as a last-observed listing, not a guaranteed live price or an August 2026 offer; check the current Asus and retailer listings, stock, return terms and warranty region before buying.
