The ASUS ROG Falchion Ace HFX is a wired 65% gaming keyboard with Hall-effect-style magnetic switches, adjustable 0.1–4.0 mm actuation, Rapid Trigger, Speed Tap, per-key RGB, and an 8,000 Hz USB polling rate. It is best suited to competitive FPS players who want compact dimensions and analog input features, but its proprietary switch platform, wired-only connection, and limited modding flexibility make the newer ROG Falchion Ace 75 HE or other Hall-effect keyboards better choices for some buyers.
This guide covers the original Falchion Ace HFX announced in September 2024—not the newer Falchion Ace 75 HE or the ZywOo Edition.

What makes the Falchion Ace HFX analog?
Unlike a conventional mechanical keyboard that relies on a fixed electrical contact point, the ROG HFX Magnetic Switch detects key position magnetically. ASUS calls the switches magnetic; they are commonly described as Hall-effect switches.

This lets the keyboard interpret how far a key has moved and change its actuation point in software. A low setting can make keys register earlier for gaming, while a higher setting can reduce accidental presses during typing. It does not require replacing the switches to change actuation.

The standard Falchion Ace HFX should not be described as hot-swappable. ASUS does not advertise standard switch hot-swapping for this model. The later Falchion Ace 75 HE uses newer HFX V2/V2X switches and explicitly adds hot-swappable support.
Rapid Trigger and Speed Tap
Rapid Trigger
Rapid Trigger allows a key to reset as soon as it begins moving upward instead of waiting for a conventional fixed reset point. This can help with repeated taps, counter-strafing, and rapid directional changes in FPS games.

The keyboard has a physical RT/N switch. Set it to RT to enable Rapid Trigger or N to disable it. By default, Rapid Trigger applies to W, A, S, and D, not every key. Other keys can be configured through ASUS software.

Speed Tap
Speed Tap is ASUS’s opposing-key prioritization feature. When opposing directional keys such as A and D are pressed together, the most recent input is prioritized and the previous direction is released. It is disabled by default and can be toggled with:
Fn + TabSpeed Tap may suit certain FPS movement techniques, but it is not universally better. Test it in each game, and check any applicable competition rules before relying on it.
Polling rate and latency
The keyboard supports an 8,000 Hz USB polling rate, which corresponds to a theoretical report interval of 0.125 ms. That is the USB reporting interval—not total input-to-photon latency. Operating-system scheduling, firmware, game-engine processing, frame rate, and display latency still matter.

65% layout and physical design
The 65% layout retains dedicated arrow keys and navigation controls while removing the conventional function row and number pad. At 315 mm long, it provides more mouse space than a full-size or TKL keyboard, but it is less compact than a 60% model.
Notable design features include:
- Two USB-C ports, one on each side of the rear edge.
- A braided USB-A-to-USB-C cable.
- Three tilt configurations using two pairs of feet.
- A silicone gasket mount.
- Five listed dampening layers: silicone foam, PORON switch pad, PORON foam, a silicone gasket pad, and silicone strips.
- Per-key RGB lighting and Aura Sync.
- A keyboard cover that can also be used as a tray-style mount.
The dampening system is intended to reduce vibration, ping, and harshness, but the final sound depends on keycaps, desk surface, typing force, and room acoustics.
There is no verified Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz mode. The Falchion Ace HFX is a wired keyboard, despite its compact size. The two USB-C ports support cable-routing flexibility and ASUS describes quick switching between two connected computers, but they do not turn the keyboard into a wireless device or provide a full peripheral KVM.

The interactive touch panel and multifunction button can control functions such as actuation adjustment, media playback, volume, and lighting. ASUS supports both all-key and per-key actuation adjustment through the panel.

Full configuration is still handled through ASUS software. Keys assigned DKS functions may not be adjustable through the touch panel in the same way as ordinary actuation settings.
Keycaps, stabilizers, and customization
Keycap material varies by region. ASUS documentation describes ROG PBT doubleshot keycaps in some configurations and UV-coated ABS keycaps in others, so buyers should verify the exact regional package rather than assume every unit includes PBT keycaps.
The walled-stem design is intended to remain compatible with most keycaps, but complete aftermarket sets require caution. Stabilized keys such as the spacebar, Shift, and Enter may not match every third-party set, and independent coverage has raised concerns about the proprietary stabilizer design. Do not assume that all standard keycap sets will fit without checking their dimensions.
Software and initial setup
- Connect the included USB-C cable to either rear USB-C port.
- Connect the USB-A end directly to the computer, preferably without a hub.
- Install the current software from the official ASUS support page.
- Update the keyboard firmware before evaluating actuation or Rapid Trigger behavior.
- Configure actuation, Rapid Trigger keys, Speed Tap, profiles, macros, lighting, DKS, Mod Tap, and analog effects.
Older documentation centers on Armoury Crate, while the current support listing also includes Armoury Crate Gear. Use the software currently offered for the device instead of relying on an older review’s menu names.

Compatibility and troubleshooting
ASUS’s verified US listing specifies Windows 11. Basic USB typing may work on other operating systems, but full software, firmware, analog, lighting, and profile support—especially on macOS—should not be assumed without a current ASUS compatibility statement.
If the keyboard behaves unexpectedly:
- Try the second USB-C port.
- Connect directly to a motherboard USB port.
- Install the current ASUS software and update firmware.
- Set the physical switch to N to disable Rapid Trigger temporarily.
- Check whether the issue affects only DKS, Speed Tap, or software-defined keys.
- Move nearby magnetic objects away from the keyboard, since ASUS warns they can interfere with sensing.

On August 16, 2026, the ASUS US eStore listing showed the Falchion Ace HFX at $119.99, reduced from a displayed $199.99 reference price. This is a dated promotional snapshot, not a guaranteed current price; verify the live ASUS buying page before purchasing.
At that discounted price, the keyboard is compelling if you want a 65% layout, physical Rapid Trigger control, adjustable actuation, dual USB-C ports, and a damped wired design. Its value is weaker if you need wireless connectivity, hot-swappable switches, easy aftermarket customization, a function row, or the newest ASUS software and switch platform.
