ASRock’s Rock Series comprises four DDR5 motherboards: two for Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors on LGA1851 and two for AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 processors on AM5. All four include 2.5GbE, a PCIe 5.0 graphics slot and a PCIe 5.0 M.2 socket. Wi-Fi 7 is reserved for the full-size ATX models; the microATX versions use Wi-Fi 6E and have fewer memory and expansion options. ASRock positions the lineup as affordable, but its product pages do not establish an MSRP or current street price.
Which ASRock Rock Series board fits your build?
Choose the processor platform first: B860 is for Intel Core Ultra Series 2, while B850 supports AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 processors. Then choose size and expansion. The ATX boards have four memory slots and support up to 256GB; the microATX boards have two slots and support up to 128GB. Only the ATX models include Wi-Fi 7.

B860 Rock WiFi 7: full-size Intel build
This ATX model suits a Core Ultra Series 2 system that needs four DIMM slots, more than one secondary expansion card, or extra M.2 storage. It has one PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot, one PCIe 4.0 x16-length slot wired for x4, one Gen5 x4 M.2 socket, two Gen4 x4 M.2 sockets and four SATA ports. Networking includes Realtek 2.5GbE, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4; audio uses the Realtek ALC897 codec.

ASRock lists memory overclocking support up to DDR5-8666+, but that is not a guaranteed speed or a standard operating setting. Results depend on the processor’s memory controller, DIMM count and rank, BIOS and kit; consult the board’s supported-memory information before choosing a high-speed kit.
B860M Rock WiFi: compact Intel build
The microATX B860M retains the Gen5 graphics slot, Gen5 M.2 socket and 2.5GbE but uses Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Its two DIMM slots cap listed memory capacity at 128GB. It offers one Gen4 M.2 socket alongside the Gen5 socket and four SATA ports. The secondary PCIe slot is only x1, despite its expansion function, so it is a more constrained choice for add-in cards than the ATX model.
ASRock lists an overclocked memory ceiling of DDR5-8333+; as with the ATX model, do not treat this as guaranteed plug-and-play speed. The rear connections include USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C, HDMI and DisplayPort.

AMD options: B850 Rock WiFi 7 and B850M Rock WiFi
B850 Rock WiFi 7: more AM5 expansion
This ATX board supports Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 processors and provides four DIMM slots, up to 256GB of memory, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and 2.5GbE. Its expansion includes a primary Gen5 x16 slot, a Gen4 x4 slot and two Gen4 x1 slots. Storage comprises one Gen5 x4 M.2, one Gen4 x4 M.2 and four SATA ports. It also includes BIOS Flashback and a 64MB BIOS capacity.
ASRock lists memory overclocking support up to DDR5-8000+. The advertised ceiling depends on the processor, modules, configuration and BIOS rather than guaranteeing that speed in every system.
B850M Rock WiFi: compact AM5 build
The B850M has two DIMM slots and a 128GB listed memory maximum, plus Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, 2.5GbE, BIOS Flashback and a 64MB BIOS. Its primary graphics slot is listed as PCIe 5.0 x16, but it is paired with a PCIe 3.0 x4 secondary slot. It has one Gen5 and one Gen4 M.2 socket, four SATA ports, and HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Its listed overclocked memory ceiling is DDR5-8200+.

Ryzen 8000 can change PCIe operation
Do not assume the AMD boards’ primary slot always operates at PCIe 5.0 x16. ASRock’s specifications describe lower generation or lane-width modes with Ryzen 8000 processors, with behavior varying by processor variant. On the B850M, the primary slot may run at Gen4 x8 or Gen4 x4 in specified configurations; the Gen5 M.2 socket can also fall back to Gen4. Check the exact CPU-specific lane table on the relevant B850 Rock WiFi 7 or B850M Rock WiFi page before buying if Gen5 operation or a particular lane width is essential.
What Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E mean here
The two ATX boards use 802.11be Wi-Fi 7 modules; the microATX boards use 802.11axe Wi-Fi 6E modules. ASRock lists the Wi-Fi 7 modules for 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz, with 160MHz channels and Bluetooth 5.4. Wi-Fi 6E adds access to the 6GHz band where available; these boards pair it with Bluetooth 5.3.
- A Wi-Fi 7 router is needed to use Wi-Fi 7-specific capabilities. A compatible 6GHz router is required for 6GHz Wi-Fi 6E operation.
- ASRock states that the B850 Wi-Fi 7 module is supported on Windows 11 and lists no Windows 10 driver. Check operating-system and driver support before choosing Wi-Fi as the connection method.
- 6GHz use depends on local regulations, and wireless results vary with router, distance, interference, channel width and network configuration.
Wi-Fi generation does not determine internet speed by itself. The router, broadband service, client and local network all affect throughput; Wi-Fi 7 is most relevant for compatible equipment and high-speed local wireless use, not simply a faster label on the motherboard.

What 2.5GbE and PCIe 5.0 provide
2.5GbE needs a capable network path
All four boards include a Realtek 2.5GbE port. It can be useful for a NAS, local backups, a media server or a workstation workflow when the connected router, switch and other endpoint also support 2.5GbE. The connection can negotiate at a lower rate with slower equipment; a motherboard port alone does not convert a gigabit-only network into 2.5GbE. ASRock’s description of up to 2.5 times gigabit bandwidth is a link-rate comparison, not a guaranteed file-transfer result.
PCIe 5.0 is limited to specific sockets
Each board has one primary graphics slot and one Gen5 M.2 socket, but the remaining slots are slower and narrower. A full-length physical slot is not necessarily wired for x16: the secondary slots range from x4 to x1, and the B850M’s is PCIe 3.0 x4. A Gen5 label also does not establish that a graphics card will run faster in games; it is an interface capability and upgrade option.

A Gen5 NVMe SSD may be useful for storage-intensive work, but it can cost more and may need substantial cooling. For ordinary gaming or general desktop use, a suitable Gen4 drive may be a better-value choice. On AM5, processor-specific lane behavior can also affect the link generation, so match the CPU to the board’s slot and M.2 tables.

What the value positioning leaves unresolved
The lineup prioritizes modern network options, DDR5, one Gen5 graphics connection and one Gen5 M.2 socket, along with practical assembly features such as pre-installed rear I/O shields, toolless M.2 installation and ASRock Auto Driver Installer. It is not a set of four equivalent boards: ATX brings more DIMMs and expansion, while Wi-Fi 7 is not offered on the microATX models.
All four use the Realtek ALC897 audio codec. That establishes the codec, not a premium analog audio implementation; users with demanding headphone or recording needs may prefer a dedicated DAC or audio interface. The available product specifications also do not establish thermal performance, VRM test results, wireless signal quality, gaming gains or sustained Gen5 SSD performance.
How to choose
- Full-size Intel with Wi-Fi 7: B860 Rock WiFi 7, especially if four DIMMs, three M.2 sockets or more expansion matter.
- Compact Intel: B860M Rock WiFi if two memory modules, two M.2 drives and Wi-Fi 6E are sufficient.
- Full-size AM5: B850 Rock WiFi 7 for four DIMMs, Wi-Fi 7, BIOS Flashback and the broader expansion layout.
- Compact AM5: B850M Rock WiFi for a one-GPU build with modest add-in-card needs; check Ryzen 8000 lane behavior against the exact CPU.
- Maximum listed memory: either ATX model, at up to 256GB; either microATX model is listed for up to 128GB.
- Wi-Fi 7: only the two ATX models, and its benefits depend on compatible network equipment and operating-system support.
Pricing and availability
ASRock’s product pages do not list an MSRP or current retail price, so the claim that the boards are affordable cannot be verified from specifications alone. ASRock also warns that individual models may not be sold worldwide and recommends checking with local dealers. Confirm the exact model, regional stock and price with a retailer before planning a build. The four models and their headline feature differences were also outlined by Guru3D.
