Short answer: ASRock Rack’s D2143D8UM product page remains available and marks the board as end-of-life, but a current, model-specific BIOS and BMC download list could not be verified there. Request firmware from ASRock Rack support and confirm it against your board’s model, revision, and OEM history before flashing. BIOS and BMC/IPMI firmware are different files for different controllers; never use one in place of the other.
What the D2143D8UM is—and why finding firmware is difficult
The ASRock Rack D2143D8UM is an EOL server motherboard for Intel Xeon D-2100 processors. ASRock Rack lists four-channel DDR4 memory support up to 512 GB ECC and integrated IPMI 2.0 management with KVM and a dedicated LAN port. Its official product page is still useful for identifying the platform and specifications, but it does not currently expose a clearly indexed, model-specific BIOS and BMC download list.

EOL status does not mean firmware is unavailable, but it does make an old or incomplete download listing more likely. Do not assume that a file is current—or suitable for every board revision—because its name appears in a forum, search result, or archive.

BIOS and BMC firmware are separate
- EFI/BIOS firmware initializes the processor, memory, PCIe devices, storage, and boot process, and stores platform setup options.
- BMC/IPMI firmware runs the out-of-band management controller: remote console, sensors, fan and power management, event logs, and management networking.
Each component needs its own compatible image and flashing method. A BMC updater is not a BIOS flasher, and a BIOS utility cannot be given a BMC image. Flashing the wrong image can leave a component unusable.

A user report says ASRock supplied two files for a D2143D8UM: D008UM109 for BIOS and D2000D8UM_L1.24.01 for BMC. These are reported filenames, not independently verified current releases. The report does not establish whether newer versions exist, whether the files suit every revision, or whether they are appropriate for OEM-branded systems. Treat them as leads to discuss with support, not download recommendations. See the user report.
Confirm the exact board and firmware before downloading
Before requesting or applying an image, check the motherboard’s silkscreen model marking, board revision, BIOS setup product name, and BMC dashboard identifier. Record whether the system has Datto or another appliance-maker’s branding; an OEM may use customized firmware or identifiers, and a standard image should not be presumed interchangeable.

Check the versions in the BMC interface and BIOS setup where available. Take screenshots, export the BMC configuration, and photograph or write down BIOS settings before changing anything.
Get the image from an authoritative source
- Check the official D2143D8UM product page.
- Check ASRock Rack’s official support and FAQ pages for applicable instructions or downloads.
- If the model-specific files are not listed, contact ASRock Rack technical support with the board revision, serial number, BIOS and BMC versions, and OEM details. Ask for the correct BIOS and BMC images, applicable release notes, and any required update order.
Avoid random firmware-download sites, unverified forum or cloud-drive mirrors, and images for visually similar Xeon D boards. A partially matching filename is not proof of compatibility. For a Datto or other OEM appliance, ask both the appliance maker and ASRock Rack before replacing OEM firmware.
Pre-flash checklist
- Confirm the board is a D2143D8UM and record its revision and OEM identity.
- Verify which file is the BIOS image and which is the BMC image, and confirm compatibility with support or release notes.
- Back up BMC configuration and record BIOS settings, current versions, and network details.
- Schedule downtime; make sure power is stable and keep local console access available.
- Have the vendor’s recovery instructions and a recovery route ready. Do not flash if you cannot establish the file’s provenance or recover from a failure.
If no release notes require a particular order, update one component at a time and verify it before considering the other. Avoid simultaneous BIOS and BMC changes, which make failures harder to isolate. There is little reason to flash a stable system merely because a version looks newer; update when a documented fix or support recommendation addresses a real need.
Update BMC/IPMI through its web interface
When the BMC is working and you have a confirmed BMC image, the web interface is generally the simplest route. ASRock Rack’s IPMI documentation describes firmware-update controls for selecting an image and, where available, preserving configuration, network settings, and user accounts. Exact options depend on the BMC firmware; this is a general ASRock Rack procedure, not a guarantee of the D2143D8UM’s menu layout.
- Connect through the dedicated IPMI LAN port and sign in to the BMC.
- Back up the BMC configuration and note the current BMC version.
- Open the firmware update page. On some ASRock Rack interfaces the generic path is
Maintenance → Firmware Update; labels may differ. - Select only the confirmed BMC image. If preservation options are shown, select the settings you intend to retain.
- Start the update and leave power connected while the image is written. Do not interrupt the process.
- Wait for the BMC to restart, then reconnect to the management address and confirm its version.
- Check sensor readings, fan reporting, remote KVM, virtual media, power controls, and user access. Restore or re-enter settings only if needed, using a backup from this same board and a compatible firmware branch.
ASRock Rack’s BMC FAQ describes generic update workflows, including menu labels such as Maintenance → Firmware Update. Firmware generations differ, so follow the instructions supplied for your specific image and interface.
Update BIOS through the BMC, if the feature is available
The ASRock Rack IPMI guide describes a BIOS-update page that can accept a BIOS image, offer BIOS-setting preservation, and shut down the host to flash. Not every D2143D8UM BMC version is verified to expose this feature.
- Record or photograph BIOS settings and verify the image is specifically approved for the D2143D8UM and your board/OEM variant.
- In the BMC, open its BIOS-update page if present and select the BIOS image—not the BMC image.
- Choose the configuration-preservation option if supported and appropriate. Allow the host shutdown or interruption required by the update.
- Keep power connected and wait for the flash and restart to finish.
- Enter BIOS setup after reboot, confirm the version, and check boot order, UEFI/legacy mode, storage settings, PCIe options, virtualization, fan policy, Secure Boot, and date/time.
Do not assume that settings will be preserved: the option may be absent, unsupported, or overridden by the image. Follow the image’s release notes or support instructions if they specify a sequence or additional steps.
Local BMC update from EFI Shell or DOS
ASRock Rack documents socflash procedures for BMC firmware. These are generic vendor instructions; use them only with a confirmed BMC image and the utility package supplied or approved for it. Do not pass a BIOS file to socflash.

- Prepare a bootable USB drive with the EFI flashing utility and BMC image in the same directory, following the package instructions.
- Boot to the motherboard’s built-in EFI Shell and identify the USB drive and directory.
- Run the vendor-provided command with the actual image name, for example:
socflash.efi if=<image_file_name>. - Wait for the utility to report completion before rebooting. Check the BMC version afterward.
ASRock Rack’s FAQ describes this EFI method and says that if the BMC version does not appear after the update, disconnect AC power for at least 20 seconds, reconnect it, and check again. A standby-powered BMC may not fully reset from a normal host reboot.
DOS
The documented DOS pattern is socflash.exe if=<bmc_image_file.ima>. The general sequence is to create bootable DOS media, copy the approved utility and BMC image into the same directory, boot DOS, run the command with the package’s actual filename, wait for completion, reboot, and verify the BMC version. EFI Shell is a practical first local fallback on a UEFI-era board; DOS is an alternative, not an assurance of compatibility with every utility package.
Server Management Utility and Redfish
ASRock Rack’s Server Management Utility manual covers BIOS and BMC version retrieval and update command groups, including bios_update and the manual’s literal spelling bmc_udpate. If using that particular utility, follow its documented syntax rather than silently correcting the apparent typo. SMU is aimed at managed systems and fleets; it adds setup and compatibility variables that are unnecessary for many single-board updates.
The manual also documents Redfish-related options and notes that the BIOS Redfish action in the described SMU path is not supported on Intel platforms. The D2143D8UM uses an Intel Xeon D processor, so do not assume SMU Redfish BIOS updating is supported for this board. Support for other Redfish operations depends on the BMC firmware and its implementation.

ASRock Rack publishes generic Redfish upload examples in its BIOS FAQ. They use a multipart POST to /redfish/v1/UpdateService/upload, targeting either the BIOS or BMC firmware inventory. Endpoint availability, target paths, authentication, image handling, and options are firmware-dependent; verify them on the actual BMC and obtain model-specific guidance before using an automation script. The vendor examples include curl -k, which disables TLS certificate verification. That is not a security best practice: use a trusted certificate or otherwise assess the connection risk rather than copying that flag by default.
What to do when an update fails
The image is rejected or the update will not start
Stop rather than forcing it. Recheck the board model and revision, whether the selected file is BIOS or BMC, its source, and any OEM branding. A model-mismatch or invalid-image warning is a reason to contact support, not to bypass verification.
The BMC is unreachable after an update
Wait several minutes, then check the management network link and address. Reopen the session or clear browser cookies if the login page behaves unexpectedly; ASRock Rack’s generic update guidance includes browser-session cleanup. If the host is responsive, a host reboot may help, but it is not a substitute for a complete BMC reset. If safe for the system, shut it down and remove AC power for at least 20 seconds before reconnecting. Do not repeat the flash with a different image unless support confirms the recovery procedure.
The BMC version is missing
After an EFI BMC update, ASRock Rack advises removing AC power for at least 20 seconds, reconnecting power, and checking the version again. If it still does not appear or management remains unavailable, stop and ask ASRock Rack for recovery steps.
Configuration or credentials changed
The update may have reset settings, preservation may not have been supported, or OEM firmware may use a different configuration structure. Restore only a backup made from this board and a compatible firmware branch. Otherwise reconfigure the BMC manually; do not import another model’s backup.
The host no longer boots as before
Check UEFI versus legacy boot mode, boot order, SATA mode, PCIe configuration, virtualization or SR-IOV settings, memory options, fan control, Secure Boot, date/time, and network boot. Compare against the pre-update record before changing several options at once.
The system is Datto-branded or another OEM appliance
Pause before flashing a standard ASRock Rack image. The available user report raises OEM-compatibility questions but does not prove whether a given appliance image is interchangeable. Confirm with ASRock Rack and the appliance maker using the serial number and board revision.
When to stop instead of flashing
Do not proceed if the current system is stable and no needed fix is documented; if the image cannot be authenticated; if OEM compatibility is unresolved; if the system cannot tolerate downtime; if you have no recovery route; or if the filename and vendor documentation do not clearly match the D2143D8UM. If the goal is only to address a management problem, first consider a BMC reset, restoring defaults, clearing browser state, or correcting management-network settings. ASRock Rack’s BMC FAQ covers generic reset guidance; seek support if the issue persists.
For a support request, provide the recorded board identity, serial number, OEM context, BIOS and BMC versions, symptoms, and steps already attempted. The official support FAQ asks for complete system information, including BIOS and BMC versions. Ask support to confirm both image compatibility and any required order before flashing.
