Usually, no: iOS 26 does not literally rotate app icons or draw their logos crooked. Some can look slanted because Liquid Glass adds translucent edges, refraction and shifting highlights—and motion effects can change how those details appear as you move the iPhone. The effect is real, but the apparent tilt is usually an optical or rendering effect rather than crooked icon artwork.
Why iOS 26 icons can look crooked
Liquid Glass is Apple’s layered, translucent interface design. Apple says it can reflect and refract its surroundings, respond dynamically to interaction and affect elements including app icons. Its icon guidance describes layered artwork with system-applied effects such as specular highlights, refraction and translucency. Apple’s design announcement and its app-icon guidance explain the intended treatment.
When a highlight or refracted edge is stronger on one side of a logo, your eye may read the difference as tilt, even if the underlying artwork is straight. The display can also shift elements through parallax as you tilt the phone. Apple says Reduce Motion disables that parallax effect, which helps explain why the look may change with the device’s angle.

As a visual explanation—not an Apple-published list—thin lettering, sharp or diagonal lines, transparent areas and high-contrast edges may make uneven highlights easier to notice. Wallpaper, appearance, brightness and viewing angle can also affect what stands out. Some users have reported blurry details or discomfort, including eye strain, dizziness or headaches; those are user reports, not evidence that iOS 26 causes a medical condition.

Check whether the artwork is actually distorted
- Take a screenshot of your Home Screen. It records one rendered moment, so it will not show how a highlight changes as you move the phone.
- Open the screenshot in Markup or an image editor and draw horizontal and vertical guides through a straight feature in the logo.
- Compare the icon in the screenshot with the live Home Screen, then move the phone slightly. If the apparent angle changes with movement or the guide lines show the logo is straight, that points toward lighting, refraction or parallax rather than a permanently skewed image.
- If possible, compare the same icon under a different appearance or wallpaper. A change in the perceived slant suggests the treatment or background is contributing.
This is a practical check, not an official Apple diagnostic. A screenshot can preserve a fixed rendering artifact, so a single screenshot alone cannot prove the icon is correctly rendered in every situation.
Settings to make the effect less noticeable
Try these in order. The labels and paths below are for Apple’s iOS 26 documentation; settings can change the broader interface, not just Home Screen icons.

1. Choose Tinted instead of Clear
Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass, then choose Tinted. Apple describes Clear as more transparent and Tinted as more opaque with greater contrast. Tinted is a useful first adjustment if transparency and bright edge effects are what bother you, but it is not a dedicated switch to turn off the apparent slant. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and turn on Reduce Transparency. Apple says this makes transparent backgrounds more opaque and reduces blur, which may improve contrast and legibility. It also changes other translucent interface elements. 3. Increase contrast if edges are hard to read
In Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, turn on Increase Contrast. Apple says it improves contrast between foreground and background elements. This can help readability, although it may change the appearance of more than icons. See Apple’s display and text accessibility guidance.
4. Reduce motion if the effect shifts as you move the phone
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn on Reduce Motion. Apple says this disables the parallax effect in which apps and wallpaper shift as you tilt the iPhone, and its iOS 26 guide notes that the setting affects some Liquid Glass motion effects. It may help with movement-related changes, but it does not necessarily remove static highlights or refracted edges. See Apple’s Reduce Motion instructions.

If the Liquid Glass appearance controls are unavailable: Apple notes that Reduce Transparency or Increase Contrast may need to be turned off before switching between Clear and Tinted. You can change the appearance, then decide whether to re-enable the accessibility setting that best suits you.

When to suspect a separate icon problem
Do not assume every distorted icon is an optical illusion. A problem is more worth investigating if only one app is affected; its logo remains visibly warped at different viewing angles and appearances; or it looks malformed in places beyond the Home Screen, such as Spotlight, notifications or the App Store. If the issue began after an app update, update the app if a newer version is available, then contact its developer if it persists.

Apple supports layered icons made with Icon Composer, while some icon configurations receive system-generated treatment. Developers can therefore supply assets differently, and rendering may vary. That does not establish that a particular app is defective, but it is one reason a single persistent problem may have a different cause from the broader Liquid Glass effect. Apple’s icon guidance describes the system and asset approach; developer discussion also documents differences in supplied icon configurations.
Apple has not, in the cited material, acknowledged “crooked icons” as a universal iOS 26 bug. The documented design explains why icons can appear that way; it does not rule out an individual asset or rendering fault.
Bottom line
iOS 26 icons are generally not geometrically tilted. Liquid Glass highlights, translucency, refraction and motion can make straight artwork look slanted. Try Tinted first, then the accessibility settings that address the specific issue—transparency, contrast or motion—and investigate a single icon that remains distorted across views and conditions.
