There is no single App Store screenshot size. Choose the Apple platform, display class, and orientation first, then export one of that class’s exact pixel dimensions. The generator below follows Apple’s current display classes, flags required uploads, and explains when App Store Connect can scale a higher-resolution image for you.

How the generator chooses a valid size

App Store Connect validates screenshots by platform and display class, not by a universal “iPhone” canvas. A reliable generator therefore asks three questions in this order:

  1. Which platform? Select iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, or Apple Watch.
  2. Which display class? For example, iPhone 6.9-inch or iPad 13-inch. A class can contain several accepted pixel sizes.
  3. Which orientation? Portrait and landscape use the same pixels in reverse order. A portrait image of 1260×2736 becomes 2736×1260 in landscape.

After those choices, show every accepted variant, its requirement status, and a copy button. Do not silently pick one value when Apple lists multiple resolutions: the designer or developer must know which exact canvas will be exported.

iPhone screenshot dimensions

The following portrait values are the current dimensions identified by Apple’s App Store Connect guidance. Landscape is the reversed width-and-height pair.

Display class Accepted portrait dimensions (px) Requirement and notes
6.9-inch 1260×2736; 1290×2796; 1320×2868 Use when this class is available for the app’s supported iPhone models.
6.5-inch 1284×2778; 1242×2688 Required for iPhone apps when 6.9-inch screenshots are not supplied.
6.3-inch 1179×2556; 1206×2622 Accepted class; exact model grouping determines the variant.
6.1-inch 1170×2532; 1125×2436; 1080×2340 Accepted class with three listed pixel variants.
5.5-inch 1242×2208 Landscape is 2208×1242.
4.7-inch Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Keep the class in the generator, but do not invent a pixel value.
4-inch Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Keep the class in the generator, but do not invent a pixel value.
3.5-inch Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Keep the class in the generator, but do not invent a pixel value.
iPhone Duo outer display Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Display class is listed by Apple; pixel values depend on the applicable device group.
iPhone Duo inner display Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Display class is listed by Apple; pixel values depend on the applicable device group.

For a class with several values, label each option with the supported model group in your own design system. If your source artwork is vector-based, create separate artboards instead of stretching one raster image between aspect ratios.

iPad screenshot dimensions

Display class Accepted portrait dimensions (px) Requirement and notes
13-inch 2064×2752; 2048×2732 Required when the app runs on iPad.
11-inch 1488×2266; 1668×2420; 1668×2388; 1640×2360 Four listed variants; landscape reverses each pair.
12.9-inch Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Class is listed by Apple; use the exact value shown for the target model in App Store Connect.
10.5-inch Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Class is listed by Apple; use the exact value shown for the target model in App Store Connect.
9.7-inch Not stated in the supplied Apple dimensions Class is listed by Apple; use the exact value shown for the target model in App Store Connect.

Do not infer a 12.9-inch, 10.5-inch, or 9.7-inch value from the 13-inch or 11-inch aspect ratio. A generator should display “dimension not stated” until its data source contains the exact Apple value.

Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Watch

Platform Accepted dimensions or classes Orientation notes
Mac 1280×800; 1440×900; 2560×1600; 2880×1800 All listed sizes are 16:10. Landscape is the normal presentation.
Apple TV 1920×1080; 3840×2160 16:9 landscape canvases.
Apple Vision Pro 3840×2160 Use the listed canvas for the applicable screenshot set.
Apple Watch Apple lists the platform, but no pixel dimensions are stated here. Obtain the exact value from the platform’s current App Store Connect requirements.

What App Store Connect accepts

  • You can upload one to 10 screenshots in an upload set.
  • Accepted extensions are .jpeg, .jpg, and .png.
  • Images cannot contain an alpha channel or transparency. Flatten transparent artwork onto an opaque background before export.
  • If the same interface is used across device sizes and localizations, Apple says to provide only the highest-resolution screenshots required. App Store Connect can scale those images down to smaller device sizes.
  • You can add specific sizes later in Media Manager when a smaller class needs its own composition.

Scaling is convenient, but it is not always visually neutral. Text, device frames, and carefully positioned captions may become too small after reduction. Generate exact class presets when legibility or marketing layout matters; rely on automatic scaling only when the interface remains clear at the smaller size.

Requirement logic for a useful generator

Use requirement labels that explain the fallback path rather than a vague “recommended” badge:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Required when available: iPhone 6.9-inch.
  • Fallback required: iPhone 6.5-inch when 6.9-inch assets are absent.
  • Required for iPad apps: iPad 13-inch.
  • Optional additional class: any other class supported by the app or needed for a specific composition.
  • Scaled by App Store Connect: a smaller class for which you have not supplied an exact asset, provided the higher-resolution screenshot is accepted and the interface is unchanged.

Show the status beside the dimensions, not in a separate help page. A user selecting iPad should immediately see that 13-inch is required for an iPad-running app.

Build a simple generator yourself

Save the following as app-store-sizes.html and open it in a browser. It contains the dimensions stated above, reverses width and height for landscape, and leaves undisclosed Apple values visibly unavailable instead of guessing.

For production use, add model-group labels, a required/fallback badge, validation for file extension and transparency, and an export step that writes the selected dimensions into the design file name. Keep the dimensions in a versioned data file so an Apple requirement change can be reviewed without changing the interface code.

Export and validation checklist

  1. Confirm the app’s platforms and supported display classes in App Store Connect.
  2. Select portrait or landscape independently; never rotate a finished image and assume the layout still works.
  3. Export each chosen artboard at the exact pixel dimensions shown by the generator.
  4. Use JPEG, JPG, or PNG and flatten transparency.
  5. Open the exported file and inspect small type, edge cropping, and device-frame alignment at 100% zoom.
  6. Upload one to 10 images for the relevant set, then check the preview in App Store Connect.
  7. If you omit a smaller class, confirm that automatic scaling preserves readable text. Add a specific size in Media Manager if it does not.

Troubleshooting common failures

The upload says the dimensions are invalid

Usually the selected class and exported artboard do not match. Recheck platform, class, orientation, and the exact variant. A 6.9-inch iPhone class can have three portrait widths and heights; choosing a nearby value is not equivalent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Landscape artwork is rejected

Swap the pair rather than changing only one number. For example, 2048×2732 portrait becomes 2732×2048 landscape. Then inspect the composition because a mathematically correct rotation can still place headlines or device mockups incorrectly.

App Store Connect rejects the file even though the pixels are right

Check the extension and image metadata. Only JPEG, JPG, and PNG are accepted, and alpha channels or transparency are not allowed. Flatten the image, export again, and verify that the new file—not the original layered asset—is being uploaded.

The app has no 6.9-inch screenshot

For an iPhone app, supply the 6.5-inch class when 6.9-inch assets are absent. If the interface is unchanged, App Store Connect may scale an accepted higher-resolution screenshot to smaller classes; add exact class-specific artwork when text or layout needs it.

The iPad submission is missing a required size

If the app runs on iPad, generate the 13-inch class first. The 13-inch class has two accepted portrait variants, so choose the one matching the supported model group rather than copying an 11-inch canvas.

The generator displays “not stated”

That is intentional. The supplied Apple dimension list identifies 4.7-inch, 4-inch, 3.5-inch, Duo displays, several iPad classes, and Apple Watch as classes without giving pixel values. Do not fill those cells with estimates; obtain the current exact value from App Store Connect’s requirements before exporting.

Or skip the browser setup

If your immediate need is a clean image of an app landing page, release-notes page, or design preview, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot from one GET request. It is not a replacement for choosing Apple’s App Store dimensions, but it can automate reference captures before you place content into the exact artboards above.

Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Practical decision guide

Your situation Best approach
New iPhone app supporting current large displays Generate the 6.9-inch class and retain the listed 6.5-inch fallback if required by your supported devices.
Existing iPhone app with unchanged UI across sizes Upload the highest required resolution, then verify App Store Connect’s scaling at smaller classes.
Any app that runs on iPad Generate the 13-inch class first, then add 11-inch or other class-specific assets when composition requires them.
Marketing copy must remain the same physical size Export exact dimensions for each class instead of relying on automatic reduction.
Need a clean web reference or preview capture Use ScreenshotNeo’s one-call capture after selecting the final App Store artboard dimensions.

The Bottom Line

Choose App Store screenshots by platform, display class, and orientation—not by a single generic iPhone size. Export the exact listed pixel variant, use an opaque JPEG/JPG/PNG, and let App Store Connect scale down only when the unchanged interface remains readable.
