Antidetect browsers package browser profiles, configurable browser characteristics, proxy settings, and automation controls in one workflow. They can help with authorized testing or keeping permitted sessions separate, but “antidetect” is a product-category label—not proof that a browser will avoid detection or that a site will accept an automated session. Before choosing one, check its profile isolation, framework connection method, data handling, and whether your activity is allowed by the target platform.

What an antidetect browser does

An antidetect browser is software for creating and operating browser profiles with configurable or generated characteristics and session data, often alongside proxy settings. Products may let you create a profile, set its browser or fingerprint options, configure a network route, and then launch it through the vendor application or an API for automation.

That combination is useful when a workflow needs separately managed browser sessions. It does not establish that a profile is indistinguishable from an ordinary user, that a proxy makes an activity permissible, or that a target website will accept a session. Treat claims about detection resistance as vendor claims unless they are supported by independent evidence under conditions relevant to your use case.

Profiles and session isolation

Profiles are the basic unit of separation. Find out whether cookies, local storage, and other browser state persist independently for each profile; how profiles are backed up or synced; and whether team members can share or edit them. A profile that looks separate in a dashboard is not necessarily isolated in every storage or access layer, so verify the behavior that matters to your workflow.

Fingerprint and emulation controls

Incogniton documents fingerprint configuration. Its integration guide lists examples such as operating system, browser version, screen dimensions, WebGL vendor, fonts, timezone, and language. Those examples describe configurable options, not independent verification that the resulting settings are internally consistent or resist detection. Compare the controls you actually need and ask how they are maintained as browsers and sites change.

Proxy configuration

Some products document proxy configuration and rotation. A proxy determines a network route; profile settings determine browser-side characteristics and stored state. They are separate concerns, and changing one does not validate the other. Playwright also documents HTTP and SOCKS proxy options for workflows that do not require an antidetect product. Test routing only in an environment and on accounts you are authorized to use.

Automation connection

Incogniton names Puppeteer, Playwright, and Selenium integrations. GetAntidetect documents launching Chromium or Firefox for those frameworks through a local API endpoint. Before building around a product, confirm the supported engine, how your framework attaches to the running browser (for example, a driver or debugging interface), whether the local API requires authentication, and any plan or concurrency limits. The exact sequence is vendor-specific; a tutorial for one product should not be assumed to work for another.

Data handling and access control

Browser profiles can contain live sessions, cookies, and other sensitive state. Inspect where profile data is stored, whether cloud synchronization is enabled by default, what encryption and backup controls are available, who on a team can access profiles, and how deletion works. AntiBrow describes profile data remaining on disk unless cloud sync is enabled; that is a vendor-specific statement, not a general property of antidetect software.

Remote browser-control endpoints need particular care. Playwright warns that anyone who knows a browser server’s WebSocket path can control the operating-system user. Do not expose debugging endpoints publicly, put credentials in shared scripts, or treat a hard-to-guess URL as a substitute for access controls.

When this approach is appropriate—and when it is not

Potentially appropriate uses include quality assurance across browser configurations, research that requires isolated sessions, and managing profiles or accounts you are entitled to operate. Native framework features may be enough for ordinary testing: Playwright supports persistent browser contexts, proxy configuration, and emulation settings such as device, locale, timezone, and geolocation. A separate profile-management product makes sense only when its additional controls address a real requirement.

Do not use profile or proxy controls to evade fraud checks, bans, rate limits, or access restrictions. The JustBrowser Acceptable Use Policy puts the boundary plainly: “Whether a given use is acceptable depends on two things: whether you are entitled to operate the accounts and systems involved, and whether the platform on the other end permits what you are doing.” Check applicable platform terms, law, and organizational policy before automating.

How to choose: compare the implementation, not the promise

There is no neutral head-to-head test or supported ranking established for the products discussed here. Compare current product documentation and evaluate the specific workflow you are authorized to run. A useful checklist is:

  • Engine and framework: Which browser engines are supported, and are your required Selenium, Puppeteer, or Playwright versions and attachment methods documented?
  • Profile behavior: What state persists per profile, how is it isolated, and can teammates share it?
  • Configuration: Which fingerprint and proxy settings are available, and can you set them consistently for your use case?
  • API security: Is the local API authenticated, how is it bound to the machine, and how are debugging interfaces protected?
  • Storage: Where are profiles stored, what sync or backup behavior is enabled, and how can access be revoked or data deleted?
  • Operations: What limits, maintenance commitments, and support options apply to the specific plan?
  • Acceptable use: Do the vendor’s terms and the target platform’s rules permit the activity?

Vendor guides can explain how to configure a product, but setup instructions do not prove that a target will fail to identify automation. Choose based on verifiable capabilities and safe operation, not a broad “undetectable” promise.

A practical Playwright baseline without an antidetect product

If the requirement is simply to test a site with a persistent session, proxy, or emulated settings, begin with the framework’s native features. The following Node.js example creates a persistent Chromium context, opens a page, and visits a URL. It does not configure an antidetect fingerprint or promise a particular result at the destination.

  1. Install Playwright in a Node.js project with npm install playwright, then install its Chromium browser with npx playwright install chromium.
  2. Save the following as check-page.js and replace the example URL with a site you are authorized to test.
  3. Run it with node check-page.js. The pw-profile directory holds persistent browser state; protect it like session credentials.
const { chromium } = require('playwright');

(async () => {
  const context = await chromium.launchPersistentContext('./pw-profile', {
    headless: false
  });
  try {
    const page = await context.newPage();
    await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
    console.log('Title:', await page.title());
  } finally {
    await context.close();
  }
})();

Playwright’s native configuration also supports proxy options and emulation settings. Consult the current Playwright documentation for the exact options supported by the version you install. If you do use a vendor-managed browser instead, replace the launch step with that vendor’s documented profile-creation and launch flow, then attach using its supported interface; do not guess an API endpoint or assume the Playwright launch call is interchangeable.

Troubleshooting common implementation problems

The framework cannot attach to the browser

Check that the vendor’s browser engine and the framework connection method match, that the profile is actually running, and that the endpoint or driver details are taken from the same product’s current documentation. A Chromium workflow cannot be assumed to attach to Firefox, and framework names in a compatibility list do not specify every version or connection mode.

The profile appears to lose its session

Confirm that the automation reopens the same profile and that its storage location is persistent. Check whether the product keeps state locally or syncs it, and whether cleanup, profile duplication, or team workflows create a different profile than expected. Avoid moving profile data while a browser is using it.

Proxy behavior differs from browser settings

Verify the proxy protocol and configuration in the product or framework, then test the authorized network route independently. A profile’s configured browser characteristics do not prove that requests are taking the intended route. Do not use proxy rotation to bypass a site’s limits or controls.

A site blocks or challenges the session

Do not interpret a configurable fingerprint or successful browser launch as a guarantee of access. A challenge or block may reflect the site’s own rules or security controls. Stop or seek permission rather than trying to defeat the restriction.

A debugging endpoint is exposed

Stop the browser service, remove public access to the endpoint, rotate any affected credentials, and review who could have reached it. Keep browser-control interfaces on trusted local or protected networks, and do not share WebSocket paths or profile directories.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations

Profile management adds operational work beyond launching a browser: profile lifecycle, storage growth, session cleanup, proxy configuration, API availability, and framework compatibility all become dependencies. Persistent contexts can preserve state between runs, which is useful for authorized testing but increases the consequences of a leaked profile. Decide how profiles will be created, assigned, backed up, and retired before scaling automation across a team.

There are no substantiated comparative performance, reliability, detection-rate, or success-rate figures for the products discussed here. Measure your own authorized workflow with realistic pages and record load failures, browser crashes, proxy errors, and maintenance effort. Recheck vendor documentation as product APIs and framework versions change.

When you only need a webpage screenshot

An antidetect browser is not necessary for every web-automation task. If the goal is to capture a page as an image or PDF rather than manage a persistent interactive browser profile, ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server; it is not a substitute for profile isolation or a browser automation framework.

Or skip the browser setup

One GET request can return a screenshot. This cURL example saves a WebP image of Stripe; replace the target URL as needed. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an antidetect browser guarantee that a website will not detect automation?

No. Configurable profiles and fingerprints describe product capabilities, not a verified detection outcome or a guarantee of site acceptance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use a regular browser automation framework instead?

Often, yes. For authorized testing that needs persistence, proxy settings, or emulation, Playwright includes native features that may meet the requirement without a separate profile product.

Is an antidetect browser the same as a screenshot API?

No. Antidetect browsers manage interactive browser profiles and related settings; a screenshot API returns an image or PDF and does not provide that profile-management workflow.
