One UI 7 is Samsung’s Android 15 upgrade. Its official rollout began on April 7, 2025, but it is no longer Samsung’s newest software generation: as of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. support page identifies One UI 8 as newer. If you are checking an older Galaxy phone, use this guide to see whether Samsung lists your model, check its installed versions, and troubleshoot an update that is missing or fails.
Rollout dates and availability vary by country, carrier, and exact model. A device appearing on Samsung’s U.S. list does not guarantee that the update was offered to every regional or carrier variant.
What Android 15 and One UI 7 mean
Android 15 is the underlying operating-system version from Google; One UI 7 is Samsung’s interface and software layer built on Android 15. They are not two competing operating systems. On a Galaxy phone, check both under Settings → About phone → Software information.
A security patch can arrive without changing either version. Also, a phone that has moved on to a later Android or One UI release will not show One UI 7 as its current version, even if it received that upgrade previously.

Samsung announced the One UI 7 rollout on March 18, 2025, with availability beginning April 7 for the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, and Galaxy Z Flip6. The company said additional phones and tablets would follow and cautioned that timing varies by market. The S25 family launched with One UI 7 rather than waiting for an upgrade. Current status: One UI 7 is a 2025 software generation. Samsung’s U.S. support page lists One UI 8 as newer as of August 18, 2026. If your phone has not received One UI 7, do not assume it is simply still “next in line”; verify the exact model, software channel, and carrier availability.
Which Samsung phones are listed for One UI 7?
The following models appear on Samsung’s U.S. One UI 7 compatibility information. The list includes both phones that launched with One UI 7 and older models that were eligible for an upgrade; it is not a guarantee of present-day availability for every regional or carrier version. Check the exact model number in Settings → About phone and consult Samsung’s compatibility and troubleshooting page.

Galaxy S series

Samsung notes that some Galaxy AI functions may be limited or unavailable on A-series phones. Model, country, carrier, firmware channel, and staged rollout timing can also affect whether an update appears. The U.S. list is not a worldwide promise.

What changes in One UI 7?
A refreshed interface
One UI 7 redesigns elements such as buttons, menus, notifications, control bars, colors, animations, and blur effects. The home screen, widgets, and lock-screen customization also receive changes. The goal is a more consistent visual layout, but exact details can differ by device and firmware.
Notifications and Quick Settings are separated
On supported One UI 7 devices, swiping down from the upper-left or center area opens notifications, while swiping down from the upper-right opens Quick Settings. Swipe left or right to move between the panels. If a familiar downward swipe no longer shows both together, this new split is likely why.
Now Bar and lock-screen information
The Now Bar can show live activity information on the lock screen, such as workout progress or audio playback. What appears depends on supported apps and may vary with country, network access, and Samsung Account requirements.

Samsung highlighted AI Select, Writing Assist, Drawing Assist, Audio Eraser, natural-language search in Settings, and expanded Gemini integration. These are not a standard bundle available on every One UI 7 phone. Individual features can depend on the model and its hardware, country, language, Samsung Account, internet connection, and supported app. Samsung’s feature and availability notes describe those qualifications. Do not assume that being eligible for One UI 7 also makes every Galaxy AI feature available.

On compatible devices, users can long-press the side button to access Gemini, and natural-language queries can help locate settings. Availability depends on device, language, and country. Samsung’s compatibility notes specifically warn that AI functions may be limited or unsupported on some A-series phones.
Other changes depend on the phone
Samsung’s firmware changelog for the Galaxy S22 model SM-S901U1 records changes to Game Booster, per-game performance settings, Edge panels, Samsung Internet, Notes, file management, and supported translation, transcription, and editing tools. That changelog also says new Edge panels could no longer be downloaded from the Galaxy Store on that software, although previously downloaded panels could still be used. Treat these as documented behaviors for that model and firmware, not a guarantee that every Galaxy phone behaves identically. See the S22 firmware changelog.
How to check for and install the update
- Connect the phone to Wi-Fi or another reliable network and make sure its battery is sufficiently charged.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update or, on some models or carrier versions, System updates.
- Tap Download and install or the available option to check for updates.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions. Keep the phone powered and connected while it downloads and installs.
- Afterward, check Settings → About phone → Software information to confirm the installed versions.
Labels vary by model and carrier. Samsung also recommends checking for software updates through Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac if an over-the-air update is unavailable. Smart Switch can show an available update; it cannot guarantee that a carrier release can be forced before it is offered.

- Android version: identifies the underlying Android release. Android 15 corresponds to One UI 7’s Android base.
- One UI version: identifies Samsung’s interface generation. It may show One UI 7 or a later release.
- Security patch level: gives the date of the security update; it can change without an Android or One UI version change.
- Build number and baseband version: help identify the installed firmware and cellular software.
If the phone now runs a later generation, it has moved beyond One UI 7. A security patch alone does not mean it has upgraded to Android 15.

- Verify the exact model. Find the model number under Settings → About phone and compare it with Samsung’s list. Similar product names can have different regional variants.
- Check region and carrier. Availability may differ for unlocked and carrier-branded phones, and a carrier may approve firmware on a different schedule. If you are in the U.S., Samsung links to carrier update resources including Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile from its troubleshooting page.
- Retry under stable conditions. Use Wi-Fi, charge the phone, and make enough storage available for the download and installation. A weak connection, low battery, or insufficient storage can interrupt the process.
- Check manually. Go to Settings → Software update/System updates and request a check; a notification may have been missed.
- Try Smart Switch. Connect to the official Samsung utility on a Windows PC or Mac and check whether it offers an update.
- Use official support if it still fails. Consult Samsung or your carrier. Do not use unofficial firmware downloads as a routine fix: installing the wrong package can cause serious problems and data loss.
A large update can take time, and a phone may feel temporarily slower while apps and system components settle. If the phone repeatedly fails, remains unusually slow, or apps stop working after installation, use Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance rather than repeatedly forcing the update. Back up important data before major software changes.
If your phone is not on Samsung’s list
The accurate conclusion is that the model is not on Samsung’s current U.S. One UI 7 list—not that Samsung has made a universal statement about every model in every market. Check Samsung support, Samsung Members, your carrier’s firmware history, and Smart Switch for model- and region-specific information. Do not treat third-party eligibility lists as confirmation.

If the phone is older, decide what to do based on whether it still receives security updates, its battery and performance, app compatibility, and repair or replacement cost—not One UI 7 alone. An update does not determine whether a phone is safe or usable on its own; confirm the device’s current security support. A newer supported phone may make sense if the old one no longer receives necessary updates or cannot meet your needs, but a staged delay on an eligible phone is not by itself a reason to replace it.

Custom ROMs are not a simple substitute for official support. They can require bootloader unlocking and wiping data, and may affect warranty coverage or the operation of banking and other apps. Only consider one if you understand the device-specific risks and have a reliable backup.
