AMD’s Counter-Strike 2 Anti-Lag 2 preview was the first release of a game-integrated latency feature—not a new universal driver switch. The original preview used Adrenalin 24.5.1, but AMD added CS2 support to the regular Adrenalin 24.6.1 release afterward. Players using a compatible Radeon system can find the option in the game’s Advanced Video settings; AMD’s advertised latency reductions are test results, not a guarantee for every PC.
What AMD rereleased—and what changed
AMD and Valve brought Radeon Anti-Lag 2 to Counter-Strike 2 through a game update. The initial technology preview, announced in May 2024, required AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 24.5.1 Anti-Lag 2 Technology Preview. AMD then included CS2 Anti-Lag 2 support in the regular Adrenalin 24.6.1 release. AMD’s 24.6.1 release notes said the option would be enabled by default in CS2’s Advanced Video settings.
That chronology matters: the preview driver was the launch route, not a continuing requirement. AMD’s developer documentation now lists Adrenalin 24.6.1 or newer for DirectX 11 and 24.7.1 or newer for DirectX 12. For the historical preview steps, AMD’s announcement is available in this syndicated copy of the launch announcement.

How Anti-Lag 2 differs from Radeon Anti-Lag
Traditional Radeon Anti-Lag works at the driver level, attempting to coordinate CPU and GPU work. Anti-Lag 2 requires integration by the game developer. Its pacing control is placed within the game’s logic, close to where input is sampled, so it can better coordinate input and rendering in supported games. AMD describes it as a latency-reduction feature for GPU-bound scenarios, not a way to increase raw rendering performance.

| Feature | Radeon Anti-Lag | Radeon Anti-Lag 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Where it operates | Graphics driver | Integrated into a supported game |
| Game developer integration | Not required in the same way | Required for each supported game |
| Availability | Broader driver-side use, subject to game and driver behavior | Only games with Anti-Lag 2 integration |
| Control | Driver-level setting where supported | Can be exposed in the game’s own settings |
AMD’s Anti-Lag 2 integration guide explains the in-game integration. CS2 was the first announced implementation, developed with Valve. Lower system latency can make controls feel more responsive, but it cannot guarantee better aim or competitive results: frame rate, display, mouse, network, server conditions and player behavior also matter.
Compatibility: hardware, operating system and driver
AMD’s developer documentation describes support for RDNA 1-based products, including Radeon RX 5000 series and newer, on Windows 10 and Windows 11. The original announcement also described Ryzen 6000-series processors and newer with Radeon graphics, while noting exceptions among some Ryzen 7000-series integrated graphics based on older GCN architecture. Do not treat “Radeon graphics” as a guarantee that every integrated GPU qualifies.

The 24.6.1 release notes identify that package as driver version 24.10.21.01, with Windows Driver Store version 32.0.11021.1011. These are historical version identifiers, not a recommendation to install that old release now. Use a current compatible driver; on a laptop, consult the PC maker if AMD’s generic package causes compatibility issues.

- Update Counter-Strike 2 through Steam so the game has the relevant integration.
- Install a compatible AMD Adrenalin driver. The original preview required 24.5.1 Technology Preview; regular CS2 support arrived in 24.6.1, with AMD’s developer guide specifying newer API-specific baselines above.
- Launch CS2 and open Settings → Video → Advanced Video.
- Look for the AMD Anti-Lag 2 setting and enable it if it is not already on. The exact label may vary by game version; AMD said it was enabled by default in its 24.6.1 implementation.
Anti-Lag 2 is not a universal driver toggle. It appears only when the game, GPU and driver combination supports the integrated feature.

How to check latency and assess the result
AMD’s Anti-Lag 2 latency monitor uses Alt + Shift + L to cycle display modes. The monitor can show FPS, latency in milliseconds and GPU-frame latency; the original preview announcement also described latency in frames and a legend. Holding Right Ctrl compares Anti-Lag 2 behavior with the bypassed or native path.
AMD’s developer guide says the frame-latency figure is generally expected to be around one to two frames with Anti-Lag 2 active, but results vary; this is a diagnostic guideline, not a promised reading. The guide also notes that DirectX 11 borderless or non-exclusive-fullscreen operation can create a one-frame discrepancy compared with Frame Latency Meter measurements, and that a short calibration period may be needed. Treat the overlay as a useful indicator, not an exact substitute for controlled measurement.

For a practical before-and-after comparison, use the same map or benchmark, resolution, graphics preset and frame cap. Record latency and frame pacing with the setting off, then repeat with it on. Average FPS alone does not tell you whether input latency improved. VSync, fullscreen mode, refresh rate, FreeSync and external frame limiters can all affect the comparison.

AMD’s 24.6.1 release notes report reductions of up to 40% at 4K on a Radeon RX 7900 GRE and up to 27% at 1080p on a Ryzen 7 8700G with Radeon 780M integrated graphics. AMD conducted the tests on April 19, 2024, using Counter-Strike 2’s Ancient benchmark, the Very High preset and DirectX 11. The comparisons were Anti-Lag technologies disabled versus enabled.

The figures are AMD’s laboratory results, not independent measurements or typical outcomes guaranteed on other systems. The preview announcement also reported an average reduction of roughly 37% across AMD’s tested Radeon and Ryzen systems when Anti-Lag 2 was enabled; that, too, describes AMD’s tests rather than a universal expectation.
When it may not help, and what to try if it is missing
If you cannot find the setting
- Confirm CS2 is updated through Steam and install a compatible AMD driver.
- Restart the PC, then check Settings → Video → Advanced Video again.
- Check the exact GPU or APU model; not every Radeon-branded integrated GPU meets the documented architecture requirements.
- If you use a laptop, try the system maker’s recommended graphics driver.
- If the setting remains unavailable on supported hardware and software, AMD’s launch announcement listed the AMD Bug Reporting Tool as a feedback route.
If latency does not improve
Anti-Lag 2 is aimed at GPU-bound conditions; a CPU-bound game may leave less for it to address. Unstable or low frame rates, a cap or VSync mode that dominates pacing, and latency elsewhere in the chain can also obscure a change. The feature does not remove mouse, display, network or server delay, and it does not raise rendering performance by itself.
Developer integration and frame generation
Developers can obtain AMD’s Anti-Lag 2 SDK through GPUOpen’s SDK directory; AMD describes the SDK as open source under the MIT license. Integration is necessary for a game to expose the feature. AMD also documents additional integration considerations when Anti-Lag 2 is paired with FSR frame generation, including handling frame types and frame-rendering boundaries. The developer guide, rather than a driver toggle, is the relevant starting point for implementing support.
