Amazon entered the U.S. premium-TV market in November 2024 with the Fire TV Omni Mini LED Series, its first Amazon-branded Mini LED television. It pairs a quantum-dot LCD panel with local dimming, Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.1, VRR, and support for up to 4K at 144Hz.
That makes it an appealing large-screen gaming TV, particularly for PC players and bright-room viewing. But the headline specifications do not make it an automatic Samsung or LG killer: independent testing found good responsiveness and strong brightness, alongside inconsistent pixel response, motion blur, and limited HDMI 2.1 flexibility.
What Amazon actually launched
The product launched as the Amazon Fire TV Omni Mini LED Series in the United States. Independent coverage has subsequently referred to the same 2024 family as the Amazon Ember Mini-LED Series; shoppers should not automatically interpret “Ember” as a separate generation.
This is an LCD television with Mini LED backlighting, quantum-dot color, and local dimming. It sits above Amazon’s standard Omni, Omni QLED, and 4-Series televisions, but below the positioning of premium OLED and flagship Mini LED models from established TV brands.

Amazon offered four screen sizes:
- 55 inches
- 65 inches
- 75 inches
- 85 inches
The built-in Fire TV platform provides streaming apps, Alexa voice control, and hands-free Alexa functionality. Amazon’s published smart-TV specifications are available in its Fire TV device documentation.

“Up to” matters here. Brightness and dimming-zone counts can vary by screen size and picture mode, and a zone count alone does not determine contrast, blooming, or motion quality. Amazon’s launch figures should also not be treated as independent measurements of sustained HDR brightness. The launch specifications were reported by HotHardware.
What 144Hz means for gaming
The Omni Mini LED supports a maximum of 4K at 144Hz, but that does not mean every game will run at 144 frames per second. Refresh rate describes how often the panel can update; frame rate depends on the game, source device, graphics settings, and hardware.

The television must be connected through a suitable HDMI input with an appropriate high-speed cable, and 144Hz may need to be selected manually in Windows or the graphics card control panel.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X generally target up to 4K at 120Hz rather than 144Hz. Console buyers should therefore prioritize 4K/120Hz support, VRR, ALLM, HDR, and low input lag rather than paying a premium specifically for the extra 24Hz.
VRR synchronizes the screen’s refresh rate with changing frame rates, reducing tearing and making uneven performance look smoother. ALLM can automatically switch the TV into a lower-latency gaming mode. Dolby Vision gaming and HDR10+ support are useful only when the game, console or PC, and software pipeline support those formats.
Ports: the important gaming limitation
The reported connection layout includes:
- Two HDMI 2.1 inputs
- Two HDMI 2.0 inputs
- One USB port
- Ethernet
- Optical audio output
- 3.5mm audio output
- IR emitter
The key catch is that one HDMI 2.1 input is also the eARC port. Connecting a soundbar or AV receiver there can leave only one high-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 input for gaming.
That is manageable for a single console or PC, but it becomes restrictive with a gaming PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and eARC audio equipment. Depending on the equipment, the solution may be an HDMI 2.1 receiver with enough compatible inputs, a suitable HDMI switch, or a different audio connection. Check the full signal path before buying.
Gaming performance: good fundamentals, imperfect motion
Independent testing by RTINGS found low input lag at 120Hz and 144Hz, broad VRR support, strong brightness, deep blacks for an LCD television, and working 4K/144Hz capability. Those characteristics make the Amazon set a credible mid-range gaming TV rather than a product that merely advertises a high refresh-rate number.

However, the panel’s pixel response was inconsistent. Some transitions can take long enough to produce noticeable motion blur, particularly in fast-moving scenes. A 144Hz input capability cannot compensate for slow or uneven pixel transitions. OLED televisions generally retain an advantage here because their pixel response is faster and more consistent.
Mini LED local dimming can also produce blooming or halos around bright objects on dark backgrounds. It can deliver excellent LCD contrast, but it does not provide the pixel-level light control of OLED.
Amazon versus Samsung
Amazon versus Samsung OLED
Samsung’s 2024 OLED range included 144Hz gaming support and Gaming Hub, as detailed in Samsung’s launch announcement. Samsung OLED models use self-emissive pixels, giving them an advantage in black-level precision, viewing angles, and motion response. They are the stronger choice for premium movie watching and high-end gaming.
Amazon’s LCD design has different advantages: potentially higher full-screen brightness, larger screens at a lower launch-price tier, and no conventional OLED burn-in risk. It is better suited to a bright room or a buyer who wants a large display without moving to OLED pricing. That is a trade-off, not an across-the-board victory for either technology.
Amazon versus Samsung Mini LED
Samsung Mini LED or Neo QLED models are the more direct technology comparison. They also target buyers who want high brightness without OLED’s characteristic burn-in concern. Performance, port layouts, processing, reflection handling, and prices vary substantially by model.
Samsung’s later M80H Mini LED reference product shows that Samsung continues to market Mini LED televisions with 4K/144Hz support, but it is a later-generation comparison—not the same 2024 launch contest.

LG’s 2024 OLED C4, G4, and M4 models supported up to 4K/144Hz in applicable sizes. They compete with Amazon on gaming capability but generally aim at a higher premium-TV tier. LG OLED is preferable for near-perfect blacks, wide viewing angles, fast response, and dark-room cinema performance.
The Amazon set is the more practical fit for bright rooms, large-screen value, and buyers who prefer to avoid OLED’s long-term burn-in considerations. It may also produce a stronger full-screen brightness impression in some viewing conditions, but brightness alone does not make it the better movie or gaming display.
Amazon versus LG QNED Mini LED
LG’s 2024 QNED90T was a more direct LCD and Mini LED rival. LG announced U.S. launch prices of $1,899 for 65 inches, $2,299 for 75 inches, and $3,299 for 86 inches. Amazon’s November 2024 launch prices were substantially lower:

These are historical U.S. launch prices, not August 2026 retail prices. TV pricing changes quickly, so the comparison demonstrates Amazon’s launch positioning rather than a current value ranking. LG’s announcement is available here.

There is no universal winner. Choose the Amazon Mini LED when you value:
- High potential brightness for a bright room.
- Large screen sizes at a lower historical launch price.
- 4K/144Hz PC gaming.
- Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Fire TV, and Alexa integration.
- Avoiding OLED’s conventional burn-in risk.
Choose OLED when you value:
- Pixel-level black control without conventional Mini LED blooming.
- Fast and consistent pixel response.
- Wide-angle viewing.
- Premium dark-room movie performance.
- A higher-end processing and design package.
The Amazon television is still an LCD. Its picture can degrade at extreme viewing angles, and local dimming can create halos. It is also not immune to every form of image retention simply because it is not OLED.
Alternatives worth considering
TCL QM-series
RTINGS’ comparison found the TCL QM6K slightly better for gaming in some respects because of a 1080p/288Hz Game Accelerator mode. Amazon had advantages in brightness and dark-room black-level performance in that comparison. The better choice depends on whether you prioritize extreme high-refresh gaming or HDR and contrast.
Hisense U7-series
The Hisense U7N trades strengths with Amazon. It was found to handle bright-room reflections better, while Amazon had an edge in dark-room black levels and local dimming. Compare the exact size and current price rather than assuming one brand wins every category.
Samsung and LG premium models
Samsung OLED, Samsung Mini LED, and LG OLED models remain more compelling for buyers who want premium motion, viewing angles, image processing, or multiple high-bandwidth connections. Their prices can be much higher, especially at launch, but discounts can change the value calculation.
Who should buy Amazon’s Mini LED Fire TV?
- PC gamer in a bright room: A strong match if the PC can actually deliver high 4K frame rates and one HDMI 2.1 input is enough.
- Console gamer: A good fit for 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, HDR, and low latency. Do not pay extra solely for 144Hz.
- Movie enthusiast: Consider it if brightness and screen size matter more than OLED’s black-level precision, viewing angles, and motion response.
- Multi-device home-theater owner: Check the HDMI layout carefully. Multiple consoles plus eARC audio may require additional hardware.
- Wide-seating-room buyer: OLED or another LCD with better off-axis performance may be preferable.
- OLED burn-in-conscious buyer: Mini LED is a sensible alternative, provided its blooming and motion trade-offs are acceptable.
Important buying checks
- Confirm the exact screen size and current U.S. price; the 2024 launch prices are historical.
- Count your HDMI 2.1 devices, including the soundbar or receiver connected through eARC.
- For 144Hz PC gaming, verify the GPU output, cable, game settings, and Windows refresh-rate setting.
- For console gaming, focus on 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, HDR, and input lag.
- Consider your seating angle and whether blooming or motion blur would bother you.
- If over-the-air next-generation broadcasts matter, note that independent testing reports an ATSC 1.0 tuner rather than ATSC 3.0.
Verdict
Amazon made Mini LED, large screens, Fire TV features, and 4K/144Hz PC gaming more accessible with the Omni Mini LED Series. Its strongest case is not that it beats every Samsung or LG television, but that it combines bright-room performance, broad HDR support, low input lag, and aggressive historical launch positioning in one package.
It is best understood as a feature-rich mid-range gaming TV. Samsung and LG OLED models remain stronger for premium blacks, motion, viewing angles, and home-theater performance, while other Mini LED brands may offer more HDMI 2.1 flexibility or more aggressive gaming modes. Buy the Amazon set when its size, Fire TV platform, brightness, and price fit your priorities—not simply because the box says “144Hz.”
