Adobe’s Photoshop, Adobe Express and Acrobat integrations launched in ChatGPT on December 10, 2025, and Adobe later broadened its ChatGPT offering. They are free to try, but they are not the full desktop apps and do not make every Adobe feature free. August 2026 reporting describes access to more than 70 Adobe tools through a wider plugin; exact availability can depend on your account, region and rollout.
What Adobe added to ChatGPT
The original December 2025 launch brought three Adobe apps into ChatGPT: Photoshop for conversational image edits, Adobe Express for template-based graphics, and Acrobat for PDF and document tasks. Adobe said these integrations were free to ChatGPT users globally and available on desktop, web and iOS at launch. That describes access to the ChatGPT integrations, not unlimited use of every feature in the standalone products. Adobe’s launch announcement explains the original release.
These are connected tools, not complete desktop editions running inside ChatGPT. You describe a task in a conversation, and the connected app may perform or assist with it. For precise production work, the standalone Adobe applications remain a different experience.
What each Adobe app is useful for
Photoshop: quick, instruction-led image edits
Use the Photoshop integration for tasks such as removing or replacing a background, adjusting lighting, improving a portrait, changing colors or preparing an image for a social post. It is most appealing when you can explain the desired result and refine it conversationally.

It is not a substitute for the control Photoshop users rely on for complex layers, precise masking, color-managed production, batch processing, plug-ins, scripts, advanced typography or print-prepress work. Adobe’s own Photoshop AI Assistant was still described as a public beta in March 2026, a reminder that conversational editing features are evolving separately across Adobe surfaces. Adobe Express: templates and quick branded content
Express is the most approachable choice for non-designers making social graphics, flyers, presentations or marketing assets. It is built around templates and layouts rather than Photoshop-style pixel-level editing. OpenAI describes its integration as a way to customize professional templates, text, colors and images through conversation. OpenAI’s Adobe Express page outlines that workflow.
Acrobat: PDFs and document tasks
Acrobat is the PDF-focused option. Tasks may include summarizing a document, extracting key points, organizing or transforming files, and assembling materials such as a resume, cover letter, references and portfolio into a job-application package. Adobe highlighted that sort of package in its launch material. Adobe’s launch examples describe it.

Do not assume the integration includes every Acrobat Pro feature, such as advanced redaction, certified workflows, complex form authoring, enterprise controls or high-volume processing. For legal, financial, medical or employment documents, check summaries and extracted text against the original PDF.
How to connect and use an Adobe app
- Open ChatGPT and find the app directory. Depending on the interface, use the Apps entry in the sidebar or go to Settings > Apps.
- Search for the Adobe app or plugin you want, then select Connect if it is available.
- Complete any Adobe authorization the connection requests.
- In a conversation, select the app from the plus menu/app selector or invoke it with an
@mention, if that option appears for your account.
OpenAI documents the connection and invocation workflow in its apps help article. Interface labels and discovery surfaces can change; OpenAI has also documented a plugin directory as a discovery route in a later update. Check the current directory guidance if the app is not where you expect. Apps may also be suggested automatically when relevant, but availability and interface details are not identical for every user. OpenAI’s app announcement describes the platform’s app framework.
Prompts to try
These are starting points, not guaranteed commands; the options shown in your connected app determine what it can do.
- Photoshop: “Remove the background and place the subject against a light gray background. Keep the subject’s edges natural.”
- Photoshop: “Brighten the face and reduce harsh shadows, but keep the result natural.”
- Express: “Turn this announcement into a square social post and a 16:9 presentation slide using a consistent visual style.”
- Acrobat: “Summarize this PDF in five bullets and list its action items.”
- Acrobat: “Combine these documents into a job-application package with a cover page.”
For better results, start with a specific request, say what must not change, and make one adjustment at a time. Keep the original file and inspect the output at full size before sharing or downloading it.

What changed after the original three-app launch?
Adobe’s June 2026 announcement described a broader creative-agent expansion across Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign and Frame.io, with After Effects in private beta. Adobe also said its tools would be available across third-party platforms including ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Adobe’s June announcement distinguishes the broader ecosystem expansion from the original three ChatGPT apps.
August 2026 coverage described a ChatGPT plugin exposing more than 70 Adobe tools across products including Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Express and Firefly. Treat the tool count and the exact products available as reported rollout details rather than a guarantee for every ChatGPT account: the reporting does not establish identical availability by plan, region or date. What “free” means—and what it does not
Adobe described the original ChatGPT integrations as free to ChatGPT users, but there is no sound basis for promising unlimited prompts, edits, generations or PDF work. ChatGPT’s Free tier applies limits to model use and tools such as uploads and image creation; limits can be stricter than on paid plans. OpenAI’s Free Tier FAQ describes those limits.
Adobe also says free users of products including Express, Photoshop on the web, Acrobat and mobile apps receive limited free daily generations for selected generative features. Allowances vary by product and account. Adobe’s generative-credits FAQ explains the distinction. Because limits can vary by product, model, account, geography and rollout, check the allowance shown in your account rather than relying on a fixed number.

If you cannot find an Adobe app, check the live app directory first. Availability can vary with geography, ChatGPT plan, workspace settings and rollout. A workspace administrator may disable apps, and an app may have moved or changed names. OpenAI’s original app announcement excluded the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom at that time; do not treat that initial restriction as a statement of August 2026 availability. Confirm the current listing in your own account. OpenAI’s announcement records the original caveat.
If an action stops working, you may have reached a ChatGPT model or tool limit, an Adobe generation allowance, or a temporary service or rollout restriction. Identify which limit the interface reports before deciding what to do; upgrading one service is not guaranteed to remove the other service’s limits.
Privacy before connecting files
Connecting an app can involve sharing data with that third-party service. OpenAI says users are shown what types of data may be shared when connecting an app, and an app can be disconnected later. Its help documentation also says information accessed from apps may be used to train models for Free, Plus, Go and Pro users if “Improve the model for everyone” is enabled. Review the connection disclosure, OpenAI data settings and Adobe’s current privacy terms before uploading confidential client work, unreleased creative assets, identity documents or sensitive legal or medical records. ChatGPT integrations suit quick, conversational tasks
- You need a fast edit or simple document task, not pixel-level or production control.
- You can describe the result clearly and want to iterate in conversation.
- Your output is for a social post, school, a presentation or a one-off document.
- You are already working in ChatGPT and want to avoid learning a full desktop workflow.
Standalone Adobe apps suit repeatable professional work
- You need layers, masks, careful color handling, production exports or print control.
- You rely on advanced Acrobat signatures, redaction, forms or document controls.
- You process many files or need predictable automation and repeatability.
- Your team needs a controlled professional workflow across several Adobe applications.
For quick branded layouts, Express is the natural starting point; for serious image manipulation, Photoshop offers deeper control; for recurring PDF work, Acrobat provides the fuller document workflow. Adobe’s Express, Photoshop plans, Acrobat and Creative Cloud pages describe their standalone products. Check current regional terms and features before subscribing; the ChatGPT integration alone is not evidence that a paid plan is worthwhile.
Alternatives by workflow
- Canva is a fit for template-led social graphics and presentations; it is less aimed at detailed pixel editing.
- GIMP offers free, open-source desktop image editing and manual control, with a more traditional learning curve.
- Affinity provides photo, vector and layout tools for users seeking traditional creative control through a different commercial model; check current availability and pricing.
- Photopea is a browser-based option for Photoshop-like manual editing and common file formats.
- Google Docs/Drive or Microsoft 365 may fit collaborative office documents better, while built-in browser or operating-system tools may be sufficient for occasional basic PDF viewing or annotation.
These tools serve different workflows; none is universally better, and their current prices and features should be checked directly.
