Actor Abhishek Bachchan’s Twitter account, @juniorbachchan, was briefly compromised on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Reports described an altered handle, unauthorized Turkish- and English-language posts, changed profile imagery and the temporary disappearance of Twitter’s blue verification badge. The account was restored within hours, and Bachchan confirmed that it was “all sorted out” and back to normal.
What happened to Abhishek Bachchan’s Twitter account?
During the February 7, 2018 incident, Bachchan’s account showed several changes that did not match his normal profile. Contemporary coverage reported that the displayed name or handle changed from “JuniorBachchan” to a variant reported as “JuniorBachchana.” Unauthorized tweets and retweets appeared in Turkish and English, while the profile or cover image was also changed.
Reports said the cover image included a missile marked “Ayyildiz Tim,” and that references to Turkey and Pakistan appeared in the unauthorized material. Much of that content was deleted after control of the account was recovered. Scroll.in’s contemporaneous account and reports from NDTV and The Indian Express documented the visible changes.

Why the missing blue badge mattered
The blue verification badge reportedly disappeared while the account was under unauthorized control and returned after the account settings were restored. That detail attracted attention because it was visible evidence that the profile had been altered.

However, a missing badge by itself does not prove that an account has been hacked. In this case, it was one indicator among several: the handle change, unauthorized posts, changed imagery and Bachchan’s own subsequent confirmation. The reports describe the badge as disappearing during the incident, not as a disciplinary action imposed by Twitter.
Bachchan confirmed the recovery
After the account was secured, Bachchan posted that it had been hacked but was “all sorted out now and back to normal.” He treated the episode lightly, joking that he was “quite chuffed” the attackers found him interesting enough to target. His message came after the unauthorized posts and profile changes had been removed or reversed.

Who was blamed?
Several contemporaneous reports attributed the intrusion to Ayyildiz Tim, described at the time as a Turkey-based cyber group associated with pro-Pakistan messaging. The same group was linked in news coverage to compromises involving other Indian public figures.
That attribution should be treated as a media-reported allegation rather than a publicly documented, independently verified forensic conclusion. The available reports do not establish the precise technical method used or conclusively prove who accessed Bachchan’s account.

Part of a wider wave of compromises
Bachchan’s incident was reported amid a cluster of account takeovers involving Indian public figures. Firmly reported contemporaneous cases included actor Anupam Kher and politicians Ram Madhav and Swapan Dasgupta. Coverage sometimes mentioned additional accounts, but those references were not equally corroborated.
Twitter Support said its teams were investigating an issue affecting a small number of Indian users and advised people not to open links sent in direct messages by unknown accounts. That warning provided useful security context, but the reporting does not prove that a suspicious direct-message link was how Bachchan’s account was compromised, nor that every incident in the cluster used the same vulnerability.
What can—and cannot—be established from the 2018 reports
- Established: The account was briefly accessed without authorization on February 7, 2018.
- Reported signs: A changed handle, unauthorized Turkish- and English-language activity, altered imagery and a temporarily missing blue badge.
- Established: Bachchan later confirmed recovery and said the account was back to normal.
- Not established: The exact intrusion route, whether phishing was involved, or a definitive forensic finding that Ayyildiz Tim carried out the attack.
Because the unauthorized posts were deleted, readers may not be able to reconstruct the complete original feed today. Screenshots and archived copies can also differ in wording or availability. The safest historical conclusion is that Bachchan’s Twitter account was briefly compromised, visibly altered and then recovered the same day.
Note: The incident occurred when the platform was called Twitter; it predates the company’s 2023 rebrand to X.
