The best Icecast host depends on what you are building. Caster.fm is the strongest starting point for most beginners and small stations; Radio.co is the polished all-in-one choice; Live365 is the best fit for broadcasters who need licensing and distribution options; and AzuraCast on a VPS offers the most technical control. ShoutcastNet and FastCast4u suit straightforward hosted streaming, while MediaCP is primarily control-panel software for resellers and multi-station operators.
Prices and features below were checked against available provider information on August 16–18, 2026. The requested April date is therefore updated to August 2026.

These are not interchangeable products. A basic Icecast endpoint distributes audio, a managed radio platform adds automation and audience tools, Live365 addresses licensing and distribution, and AzuraCast or MediaCP requires infrastructure and technical administration.

Caster.fm offers a permanent free plan based on Icecast 2.5, with up to 400 concurrent listeners, a maximum 96-Kbps stream, HTTPS support and a built-in radio website. Its Cloud Plus plan is listed at $34 per month, while Pro plans start at $80 per month. The provider says Pro includes unlimited listener slots and transfer, along with features such as AutoDJ, HLS, mobile apps, Alexa support, podcasting and analytics.

- Advantages: Free entry tier, managed setup, website and player included, clear upgrade path, and advertised discounts for schools, religious organizations, nonprofits and community projects.
- Limitations: The free plan is capped at 400 listeners and 96 Kbps. Its website may display advertising, and the provider says the free stream can shut down after 15 minutes without a connected source.
- Important qualification: “Unlimited listeners” is a plan claim, not a guarantee of infinite practical capacity. Confirm fair-use, bitrate, support and infrastructure terms before relying on it for a large station.
Verdict: The best default recommendation for a small, nontechnical station.
2. Radio.co — best polished all-in-one platform
Best for: Stations that want managed playlists, live broadcasting, automation, analytics and presentation tools without assembling them separately.
Radio.co lists Lite at $35 per month, Standard at $59 and Plus at $139. The Standard plan lists 20 GB of storage, up to 20,000 concurrent listeners, 360,000 total listening hours and a 192-Kbps stream. Plus lists 75 GB of storage, 500,000 concurrent listeners, 875,000 total listening hours, mobile apps and an Alexa skill. A 14-day trial and cancellation without a long-term contract are advertised on the Radio.co pricing page.
Radio.co is better understood as a managed internet-radio platform than as a bare Icecast account. Its large listener figures must also be considered alongside monthly listening-hour limits. Publishing mobile apps may require separate Apple and Google developer accounts.
Licensing warning: Radio.co hosting does not automatically provide the same licensing model as Live365. You remain responsible for verifying music and content rights.
Verdict: A strong choice for a growing station that values ease of use over the lowest possible hosting cost.
3. Live365 — best for licensing-conscious music radio
Best for: U.S.-oriented music broadcasters that need a combined hosting, distribution and licensing-oriented service.

Live365 accepts live streams through Icecast-compatible encoders or relays. Its listed broadcast plans range from $59 per month for 1,500 total listening hours and 30 GB of storage to $999 per month for 20,000 hours and 500 GB. Intermediate plans are listed at $99, $199 and $499 per month.

4. Shoutcast — best for the Shoutcast ecosystem
Best for: Broadcasters who specifically want Shoutcast hosting, audience reporting and monetization tools.
Official Shoutcast hosted plans start at €50 per year per station for the listed Easy option. The hosted service advertises cloud management, SSL, audience monitoring, audience details and royalty reporting. Shoutcast also offers free server software for a self-hosted Basic route. Before subscribing, verify listener capacity, bitrate, storage, bandwidth, advertising requirements and taxes.
Verdict: A sensible choice for Shoutcast-focused users, but not the purest Icecast recommendation.
5. ShoutcastNet — best budget candidate

Because the supplied evidence is primarily from the provider’s comparison article rather than a complete current checkout matrix, verify the exact plan before paying: listener slots, bitrate, storage, data transfer, renewal price, AutoDJ inclusion and whether the endpoint is Icecast, Shoutcast or selectable. “Unlimited listeners” should be read alongside any fair-use, bandwidth and resource rules.

Verdict: Potentially the cheapest practical route, but check the checkout terms more carefully than you would with a fully documented plan.
6. FastCast4u — best traditional hosted option
Best for: Small and mid-sized stations wanting conventional live or automated radio hosting.

The available evidence does not expose a complete current official pricing matrix. Check FastCast4u’s site for current listener slots, AutoDJ limits, storage, transfer rules, renewal prices, support and cancellation terms.
Verdict: Worth considering for a conventional Icecast/Shoutcast workflow, but pricing transparency is weaker in the available information.

This is a third-party host using AzuraCast, not the AzuraCast project itself. “Unlimited traffic” does not mean unlimited CPU, storage, bitrate or concurrency. Ask about backups, server location, update policy, migration assistance, abuse handling and suspension terms. Currency conversion, VAT and billing cycles may also change the final cost.
Verdict: A useful middle ground between turnkey SaaS and full server administration.
8. AzuraCast on a VPS — best for technical control
Best for: Linux-capable operators who need multiple stations, custom integrations or control over their infrastructure.

AzuraCast is an open-source, self-hosted web-radio management suite. It installs Liquidsoap for AutoDJ and Icecast-KH as the broadcasting frontend, and supports relays and HTTP/HTTPS proxy functionality. Media, recordings and backups can use local storage or an S3-compatible service. The official documentation explains the platform and its operating model.
The software may be free, but the station is not cost-free. You still need a VPS, domain, backups, monitoring, security updates, SSL management and enough CPU, memory, storage and outbound bandwidth. You are also responsible for licensing, abuse complaints, disaster recovery and server migration.
Verdict: The best option for control and potentially lower marginal costs at scale, provided you can administer the system.

Annual and perpetual license options are also listed. Features include AutoDJ scheduling, live-DJ handoffs, relaying, SSL stream proxying and reseller tools.

MediaCP is primarily software licensing, not a complete beginner hosting account. You still need a compatible server, storage, bandwidth, backups and support arrangements unless a hosting partner supplies them. Review the MediaCP control-panel page.
Verdict: Excellent for multi-station operations, but overkill for a single hobby stream.

How much listener capacity do you need?
Use concurrent listeners, not registered users or monthly visitors. As a rough planning guide, under 50 concurrent listeners usually fits a free or entry plan; 50–400 fits low-cost managed hosting; 400–1,000 calls for a larger tier; and 1,000 or more merits careful review of infrastructure, listening hours, licensing and support.

A simple bandwidth estimate is:
concurrent listeners × stream bitrate
At 128 Kbps, 1,000 simultaneous listeners require roughly 128 Mbps of outbound stream traffic before protocol overhead. At 320 Kbps, the same audience requires about 320 Mbps. This is why a plan with a high listener number may still be unsuitable at a high bitrate.
Also distinguish concurrent listeners from total listening hours. Radio.co and Live365 both show why a station can remain below a simultaneous-listener cap while exceeding its monthly listening-hour allowance.
What Icecast hosting does—and does not—include
Icecast hosting normally provides an encoder endpoint and distributes audio to listeners. It may also include HTTPS delivery, a player, listener statistics, AutoDJ, storage, metadata handling and relays. Those features vary by plan.
It does not automatically include:
- Music licensing or permission to broadcast copyrighted recordings.
- A website, mobile app or directory listing.
- Production software for mixing or recording.
- Podcast hosting or permanent audio archives.
- Backups and disaster recovery, especially on a VPS.
Common Icecast-compatible encoders include BUTT, Mixxx, OBS, SAM Broadcaster and similar tools, but confirm compatibility and connection instructions with the selected provider. A normal shared web host is generally unsuitable for continuous high-bandwidth audio delivery.

Music licensing is a separate decision
Generic Icecast hosting supplies infrastructure, not music rights. Your obligations can depend on your country, the listener’s location, commercial status, music catalog, advertising, metadata and whether the service is interactive.
Live365 is the notable option in this list where licensing and distribution are central features, but its coverage is plan- and territory-dependent. Do not assume that a U.S. arrangement covers international listeners or every type of content. For a talk, school, church or podcast station, verify the rights for every recording, speech, commercial and syndicated segment.

- Verify listener caps, bitrate limits, storage and listening-hour allowances.
- Check whether multiple mount points or output formats cost extra.
- Ask about backups, migration, server location, support and abuse handling.
- Read renewal pricing, taxes, cancellation terms and fair-use rules.
- Confirm that your music and other content rights cover the intended audience and geography.
