There is no single best 4K smart TV for every U.S. home. The right choice depends on reflections and room light, screen size, gaming hardware, HDR formats, viewing angle, sound plans, and budget. All five picks below use native 3,840 × 2,160 resolution and built-in streaming software, but they target different rooms and priorities.
Fast answer: Choose the LG C6 OLED for the best all-round balance, the Samsung QN90F for a bright room, the TCL QM7L for Mini-LED value, the Sony BRAVIA 8 II for film-focused picture quality, and the Vizio Mini LED Quantum 4K when the lowest acceptable price matters most.

1. LG C6 OLED: best overall
Why it wins
The LG C6 is the most balanced recommendation for a mixed-use living room. OLED pixels switch off individually, producing deep blacks without the haloing that can surround subtitles on a local-dimming LCD. It also maintains wide viewing angles, so people seated away from the center see a more consistent image.

TechRadar lists a 165Hz panel, webOS 26, four HDMI 2.1 inputs, Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. Its measured peak brightness was 1,438 nits and measured input lag was 9.2ms in that testing. See the TechRadar specifications and measurements.
Who should buy it
- Households watching films, sports and streaming content in a mixed-light room.
- Console or PC gamers who want 4K/165Hz, VRR, FreeSync, G-Sync and Dolby Vision Gaming.
- Buyers wanting four full HDMI 2.1 connections for several modern devices.
Trade-offs
The glossy screen can reflect windows and lamps. OLED image retention is a long-term possibility rather than an inevitable outcome; varied content and the set’s pixel-care features reduce risk, but buyers who display static graphics for many hours should consider Mini-LED instead. HDR10+ is not supported, and built-in speakers should not be treated as a replacement for a soundbar or receiver. The cited testing does not establish eARC or Atmos-passthrough details, so verify those features for your intended audio setup.
2. Samsung QN90F: best for bright rooms
Why it wins
The QN90F is the safer choice when direct reflections are unavoidable. Its matte coating substantially reduces reflected windows and overhead lights, while Mini-LED backlighting delivers high SDR and HDR brightness for daytime sports and television.

Gaming and limitations
4K/165Hz and VRR suit a high-end PC, and four HDMI 2.1 inputs simplify multi-console setups. RTINGS notes motion-blur limitations related to pixel-transition behavior. Black levels and blooming control are also dependent on local dimming, so the QN90F will not look exactly like an OLED in a dark room.

Samsung’s omission of Dolby Vision matters if your preferred services or disc collection rely on it. Built-in audio, eARC and Atmos passthrough should be checked against the specific regional specification before purchase.
3. TCL QM7L: best Mini-LED value
Why it wins
The 2026 U.S. QM7L combines high brightness, Mini-LED contrast and unusually strong gaming features for its price. Tom’s Guide measured 2,270 nits of HDR brightness. TCL claims the largest size can exceed 2,100 discrete dimming zones and reach up to 3,000 nits; those are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.
Tom’s Guide reported these U.S. list and observed sale prices in its shopping snapshot: 55 inches, $1,199 list/$999 sale; 65 inches, $1,499/$1,199; 75 inches, $1,999/$1,299; 85 inches, $2,499/$1,699; and 98 inches, $3,999/$2,799. Prices fluctuate, so recheck the review and current retailer listing before buying.
Gaming and ports
The set supports 4K/144Hz, 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision Game Mode and eARC. Although it has four HDMI sockets, Tom’s Guide reports that only HDMI 1 and 2 support 144Hz; HDMI 3 and 4 are limited to 1080p/60Hz. Put your PC and highest-refresh consoles on ports 1 and 2.
Important naming distinction
QM7L is the 2026 U.S. model. QM7K is the 2025 U.S. model, while some non-U.S. coverage calls that generation C7K. What Hi-Fi? explicitly identifies C7K as the U.S. QM7K; do not assume a QM7K deal is the newer QM7L. The What Hi-Fi? naming and feature notes provide the distinction.

Google TV supplies broad app and casting integration. Sound staging can lose coherence, so budget for a soundbar if audio is important.
4. Sony BRAVIA 8 II: best for cinematic picture quality
Why it wins
The BRAVIA 8 II uses a QD-OLED panel and Sony processing to deliver natural color, strong shadow detail and a film-oriented presentation. It runs Google TV and supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.
What Hi-Fi? lists four HDMI inputs, with two 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 sockets, plus 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM and Dolby Vision Game Mode. Its review coverage describes vivid images and perfect blacks but notes lower brightness than some LG and Samsung rivals.
Best use and compromises
Choose it for movies, premium streaming and a Google TV household rather than maximum refresh rate per dollar. Two HDMI 2.1 ports may be insufficient if you have several high-bandwidth consoles and a gaming PC. It is also a less secure choice for rooms with intense direct sunlight. Treat the built-in speakers as a convenience, not a substitute for dedicated home-theater audio; verify eARC, Atmos passthrough and stand-to-soundbar clearance for your installation.
5. Vizio Mini LED Quantum 4K: best low-cost option
Why it wins
RTINGS lists a 4K IPS LCD, Mini-LED backlight, 60Hz native refresh rate, Dolby Vision and 43-, 50-, 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes. It delivers vivid color and very high peak brightness at a lower entry cost than the other picks.

Its limitations are substantial: RTINGS reports grayish blacks, haloing around bright objects, visible direct reflections and occasional VIZIO OS bugs. Dark-room movie quality and high-refresh gaming are therefore not its strengths. Choose OLED when
- You watch films at night or can control reflections.
- Perfect blacks, wide viewing angles and fast pixel response matter most.
- You want minimal blooming around subtitles and stars.
Choose Mini-LED/QLED when
- Windows or lights create direct reflections.
- Sports and daytime viewing require sustained brightness.
- You want a very large screen at less than an equivalent premium OLED price.
- You prefer to avoid OLED image-retention concerns.
Peak HDR brightness alone is not a complete quality score. Sustained full-screen brightness, tone mapping, subtitle behavior, local-dimming transitions and content quality determine what you actually see.
Gaming specifications that change the buying decision
- HDMI bandwidth: Count the ports that truly support 4K/120Hz, 144Hz or 165Hz, not just the total HDMI number.
- VRR and latency: Look for HDMI VRR, FreeSync, G-Sync where relevant, ALLM and a measured input-lag result.
- Format support: Dolby Vision Gaming can matter to compatible Xbox and PC setups, but it is not required for every console.
- Device count: Two consoles, a PC, soundbar/receiver, streaming box and disc player can quickly exceed the high-bandwidth port count.
HDR and smart-TV platforms
HDR formats
HDR10 is the baseline format. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ add dynamic metadata, while HLG is common in broadcast HDR. Dolby Vision appears on many Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV and UHD Blu-ray titles; HDR10+ is used by selected services and discs. A supported format does not guarantee a better picture: brightness, calibration, tone mapping and the source master matter more.

webOS 26 is easy to navigate but includes prominent promotional content. Tizen offers Samsung ecosystem integration. Google TV is useful for Google Assistant, casting and broad app integration. VIZIO OS covers common services but can be buggy. Apps, advertising and interfaces vary by country, model year and software version; an Apple TV 4K, Roku or Google TV Streamer can improve an experience you dislike.
Pick the right size and plan the installation
- 43–50 inches: Bedrooms, offices and small apartments.
- 55 inches: A practical choice for smaller living rooms.
- 65 inches: A versatile size for many medium rooms.
- 75 inches and larger: Better when the seating distance and wall allow a more immersive image.
Measure wall and stand width, viewing distance, doorways, stairwells, VESA pattern, mount weight rating, cable direction, outlet location and soundbar clearance. There is no single perfect viewing-distance number; eyesight, source quality and personal preference change the answer.
Sound, eARC and add-on planning
Built-in speakers are generally adequate for dialogue and everyday viewing, but a soundbar or receiver is the sensible plan for cinematic impact. The QM7L specifically supports eARC, while the supplied testing does not establish eARC details for every other model; confirm the exact specification. Check Dolby Atmos passthrough, dialogue modes and whether the stand leaves room for the soundbar. Compare HDMI eARC, included subwoofer, TV-brand integration and soundbar width rather than buying solely by wattage.
When a discounted older TV makes sense
A previous-generation model can be a smart purchase when the discount is substantial, an authorized U.S. retailer has stock, warranty terms are clear and its HDMI, HDR and smart-platform features meet your needs. Do not assume an older set is better merely because it is cheaper. Check the exact model suffix, panel size and return policy.
