For most backpackers, the useful Anker kit starts with a power bank sized to the days between outlets, then adds the cable and wall charger needed to refill it in town. A smaller bank can suit a weekend and one phone; carrying several devices or spending longer off-grid can justify more capacity, at the cost of extra weight. Solar panels and power stations are situational choices, not essentials for every pack.

How to choose backpacking charging gear

Start with the devices you will actually carry, how often you expect to use them, and how many days you will go without an outlet. Then weigh that charging plan against the bank’s mass and pack space. Anker’s recommendations are manufacturer guidance, not independent tests or guarantees of how many charges you will get on a trail.

  • Capacity: Anker describes 10,000mAh as a balance for weekend trips and 20,000mAh or more for multi-day adventures. Actual charges vary with the device, its battery, and how it is used. [Anker’s backpacking guide]
  • Output and ports: Check that the bank supports the charging standard and connector your devices need. Anker recommends USB-C Power Delivery for fast charging modern devices, and multiple outputs when charging several gadgets. Verify each model’s current specifications. [Anker]
  • Weight and storage: Compare capacity with the actual listed weight, then consider whether the bank fits securely and accessibly in your pack. Anker UK suggests a hiking charger under about 500–600g where possible; that is brand guidance, not a universal backpacking standard. [Anker UK hiking guidance]
  • Energy figures: mAh figures are tied to battery voltage, so they are not a direct energy comparison across different banks. Watt-hours can make energy comparisons clearer; compare the published Wh figure when available. [Anker]
  • Weather protection: Look for a verified ingress rating or rugged housing if conditions warrant it, but do not assume every Anker bank is waterproof. An IP rating is not permission to leave electronics exposed; Anker recommends protected storage such as a dry bag. [Anker]

Five Anker accessories to consider

1. Anker power bank sized to the trip

A power bank is the core item for charging between outlets. For a short trip with a phone, consider a lighter, lower-capacity model; for longer stretches or more devices, consider a higher-capacity bank only if its added mass is worth carrying. Anker’s 10,000mAh weekend and 20,000mAh-or-more multi-day suggestions are starting points, not runtime promises. Check the exact product’s capacity, Wh, output, ports, and weight before buying. [Anker backpacking guide]

2. Anker Prime 27,650mAh Power Bank

Anker positions its Prime 27,650mAh bank for people carrying several or higher-draw devices, such as cameras, GPS units, or a lightweight laptop. Its combined output and approximate mass are product-specific details; consult the current listing to confirm them and ensure they fit your devices and pack-weight limit. A high capacity is useful only if the additional weight is acceptable for your route. [Anker backpacking guide]

3. Anker MagGo Power Bank

Anker describes a 10,000mAh MagGo model as a compact option with wireless charging. Wireless charging can reduce cable handling for compatible devices, but confirm the exact model’s device compatibility and wired outputs before relying on it. Its capacity still needs to match the length of the trip and your charging habits. [Anker backpacking guide]

4. Anker MagGo Power Bank for Apple Watch

This is a niche add-on for backpackers carrying a compatible Apple Watch and other supported Apple devices, not a general-purpose necessity. Check the specific model’s compatibility and charging options; do not substitute it for a suitably sized bank if you need to charge a phone or other gear. [Anker backpacking guide]

5. Anker USB-C wall charger and compatible cable

A wall charger and cable help refill a bank or device at home, in a hostel, or during a town stop with reliable mains power. They do not add stored energy while you are away from an outlet. Match the charger’s output and cable connectors to the devices and power bank, and check the bank’s supported input if you want to recharge it efficiently. When solar or a power station makes sense

Solar: an optional daytime top-up

Anker advises treating solar as a daytime top-up rather than a dependable overnight source. Output depends on sunlight and conditions, so a solar panel is not essential for every backpacker; consider it only if its weight and your expected exposure make sense for the route. Power station: for base camp, not a typical backpack

Anker SOLIX presents its portable power stations for camping, road trips, and base-camp power. Models in the collection have capacities measured in hundreds or thousands of watt-hours, a different scale from pocket power banks and generally a poor default for weight-sensitive backpacking. Build a practical kit for your route

  • Weekend, phone-first trip: Begin by comparing lighter 10,000mAh-class options, then check output, weight, and the phone’s charging needs.
  • Several days away from outlets: Consider Anker’s 20,000mAh-or-more guidance, while checking the actual mass and deciding whether the extra capacity justifies it.
  • Multiple or higher-draw devices: Check simultaneous outputs and device-specific charging requirements; the Prime 27,650mAh is an Anker-described candidate for this use, subject to current specifications.
  • Town stops on the route: Bring a compatible wall charger and cable if you expect access to mains power; they help replenish the bank but do not replace it on trail.
  • Wet or rough conditions: Verify protection claims for the particular product and use protected storage rather than assuming a bank can be exposed to rain or immersion.

Anker’s product recommendations and durability guidance are manufacturer-authored. They establish how the company describes these products and use cases, not independent proof of trail performance or best-in-class status.
