Quick verdict: Steelmans’ 3dB ULTRA is a genuine four-pad isolation kit that can reduce vibration transmitted into a desk, rack, floor, or neighboring room. It is not a guarantee of a 3 dB sound-pressure reduction, and it will not silence fans, bearings, belts, loose panels, or other airborne and mechanical noise. Buy it when structure-borne vibration is the problem and the printer remains stable on the pads.

What the 3dB ULTRA is

The 3dB ULTRA is sold by Steelmans 3D as a pack of four low-profile anti-vibration feet for 3D printers. The manufacturer says the pads isolate vibration from motors and moving axes, reduce transmitted noise, preserve stability, and may reduce vibration-related artifacts such as ghosting or ringing. Steelmans lists a maximum printer weight of 80 kg net; the manufacturer price observed in August 2026 was £14.99. See the manufacturer product page.

A Norwegian retailer, Polyalkemi, listed the four-pack at NOK 299 including VAT and showed 20+ units in stock when checked. It describes the ULTRA version as using an improved rubber material, but neither the retailer nor Steelmans publishes the compound, Shore hardness, dimensions, load-deflection curve, or frequency-response data. Check current price, delivery, currency and returns before ordering.

“3dB” is a product name, not a verified result

The available product material does not provide a test protocol, baseline sound level, microphone position, frequency range, acceleration setting, or independently measured reduction. Therefore, do not read “3dB ULTRA” as a promise that your printer will measure exactly 3 dB quieter. The product page claims reduced noise, but the size of any improvement depends on the printer, support furniture, speed and the dominant noise source.

#1 Best Overall
3D Printer Mat 23.6''x23.6'', High-Rebound Silicone Anti Vibration Pad, Non-Slip Damping Mat for 3D Printer/CNC/Laser Engraver, Noise Reduction, Stop Drifting, Fits Most Vibration Machines
  • Premium 0.2"" Thick Dual-Side Silicone Construction: Crafted from high-density, dual-side anti-vibration silicone, this 0.2-inch thick mat acts as a heavy-duty buffer between your machine and work surface. It effectively absorbs high-frequency shock and dampens operational noise, minimizing echoing and buzzing to create a quieter, more comfortable workspace.
  • Universal 23.6""x23.6"" Large Mat for Multiple Devices: With a generous 23.6"" x 23.6"" (60cm x 60cm) footprint, this extra-large equipment mat offers universal compatibility for a wide range of workshop tools. It is the perfect foundation for 3D printers (Creality, Bambu Lab, Prusa), CNC routers, laser engravers, and other vibration-producing machines.
  • Non-Slip Bottom Prevents Drifting & ""Layer Shifting"": The textured, high-grip bottom surface anchors your equipment firmly to any desk or workbench. It prevents sliding or “walking” during high-speed operations, ensuring your machine stays precisely in place. This stability is crucial for reducing layer shifting in 3D prints and ensuring consistent accuracy in CNC and laser projects.
  • Improve Print Quality & Reduce Defect Rates: By isolating harmful vibrations, this mat enhances machine stability for superior work results. It minimizes micro-jitters that cause flaws in precision work, leading to cleaner engraving lines, smoother laser cuts, and higher-quality 3D prints. Using this pad helps lower your overall defect rate and saves material costs.
  • DIY Customizable Size for Endless Uses: Not just for large machinery! This soft silicone sheet can be easily cut with household scissors to fit any need. Customize it into smaller 5""x5"" or 6""x6"" pads for mini 3D printers, or trim it to fit under speakers, subwoofers, gaming consoles (PS5/Xbox), and even washing machines to dampen vibration and noise.

What the pads can actually change

A moving printer pushes against its feet. Those forces enter the desk, shelf or rack, which can flex, rattle or radiate sound into a floor or wall. A compliant pad can deform slightly, dissipate some energy, reduce mechanical coupling and keep the printer from sliding. Its low profile also limits the stability penalty associated with tall, soft mounts.

They are most likely to help with:

  • Low-frequency motor and axis vibration
  • Desk, shelf or rack rattling
  • Thumping transmitted through a floor or wall
  • Resonance during rapid travel moves
  • Vibration heard in a room below or beside the printer

They are unlikely to fix cooling- or power-supply-fan noise, stepper-driver whine, clicking or grinding bearings, belt noise, loose covers, nozzle scraping, or an enclosure’s ventilation noise. Diagnose those at the printer rather than buying more isolation material.

One Reddit user reported a substantial subjective improvement with a Bambu Lab P1S/S1 Pro-class machine, including less sound reaching the room below. Other commenters suggested a yoga mat and stone paver, while one warned that less transmitted noise can coexist with more printer vibration. These are useful experiences, not controlled measurements; see the discussion.

Can they improve print quality?

Steelmans says the feet maintain print quality and may help ghosting or ringing. That is plausible when a flexible desk is exciting the printer, but it is not guaranteed. Isolation and rigidity are different goals: the pads can decouple the machine from a resonant support, yet an overly soft or uneven setup can let the printer rock.

Rocking can worsen ringing, layer shifts, dimensional accuracy and first-layer consistency. The feet cannot repair a loose frame, poor belt tension, misaligned rails, loose pulleys or an unstable table.

Compatibility: the 80 kg claim is only a starting point

The 80 kg figure is a general manufacturer limit, not a model-by-model compatibility list. A four-pad kit is easiest with a printer that has four stable, coplanar feet. Check:

How to install and test them

The manufacturer describes the product as easy to install but does not publish a detailed installation manual. The following is practical guidance, not an official Steelmans procedure:

  1. Stop the printer and secure removable parts or anything that could fall.
  2. Fix wobble in the desk or rack first; pads cannot make a flexible support rigid.
  3. Clean dust, oil and filament debris from the feet and support surface.
  4. Place one pad fully under each factory foot, centered and completely supported.
  5. Check level and press opposite corners to confirm that the machine does not rock.
  6. With power off, move the toolhead or bed by hand and make sure no foot walks out.
  7. Run a short test print using your normal speed and acceleration.
  8. Compare noise at the printer and in the adjacent or lower room, then inspect for ringing, layer shifts and dimensional changes.

For a fair before-and-after comparison, use the same file, filament, acceleration, time of day and microphone position. Phone sound-meter apps are easily disturbed by room reflections and background noise, so treat their readings as rough comparisons only.

Direct pads or a paver underneath?

Direct-pad installation

This is the lowest, simplest arrangement. It suits a rigid, level desk and adds little weight. It is less forgiving of an uneven surface or a lightweight desk that flexes under the printer.

Mass-loaded setup

A heavy stone or concrete paver beneath the printer, with compliant material between the paver and desk, adds mass and can calm a resonant support. A paver alone is not an isolator. The combination is heavier, harder to lift and may exceed the furniture’s safe load. A yoga-mat-and-paver setup is a user-reported low-cost alternative, not a validated performance standard.

Common failure modes

Symptom Likely cause What to do
Printer rocks Uneven surface, unequal loading, desk flex or excessive compliance Re-center pads, verify all feet, stiffen the support, reduce acceleration temporarily, or remove the pads.
Noise falls but ringing worsens The printer is moving less of the desk but rocking more itself Check frame bolts, belts, pulleys, rails and acceleration; prioritize stability.
Printer slides Dirty or incomplete contact, insufficient friction, aggressive motion Clean surfaces, ensure full contact and consider a heavier rigid base.
No audible change Fans, bearings, belts, panels or driver noise dominate Service the noisy component instead of adding isolation.
One pad compresses more Uneven weight distribution or unusual foot geometry Correct the support or use an arrangement designed for the machine’s contact points.

Alternatives and when they make more sense

  • Rigid support upgrade: Bracing or replacing a flexible shelf, rack or desk can outperform any foot pad.
  • Paver plus rubber or elastomer: Often cheaper and more stable for a lightweight desk, but requires load and thickness experimentation.
  • Appliance anti-vibration pads: Affordable, but often too thick or soft for a tall, fast printer.
  • Generic elastomer or Sorbothane-style mounts: Potentially predictable when load per mount and hardness are known; incorrectly sized mounts can amplify motion.
  • Printer maintenance: Tighten frame bolts and pulley grub screws, check belts, rails or V-wheels, bearings, fans, panels and acceleration before purchasing accessories.

Who should buy the 3dB ULTRA?

Good fit: A printer on a hard but resonant desk, shelf or rack; an apartment user bothered by transmitted thumps; a small print farm wanting a compact, reversible four-pad solution; or anyone whose printer is comfortably below the claimed 80 kg limit and who values convenience over experimentation.

  • Long-Lasting & Reliable – Made from premium silicone, these anti-vibration feet are heat-resistant, wear-resistant, and built to provide long-term stability for your 3D printer.
  • Easy Setup – Simply remove the original feet and place the new ones under the printer. The non-locking design (not fixed in place) allows quick repositioning when moving the printer.

Look elsewhere first: If fans or mechanical defects are the main noise source, the printer rocks already, the support is weak, the machine has unusual feet, or you need published isolation or decibel data. The product pages do not provide independent dB, acceleration or frequency-response measurements, nor a recommended load per pad.

Bottom line

The 3dB ULTRA is a reasonable, relatively low-cost experiment for structure-borne 3D-printer vibration. Its likely benefit is quieter furniture and less vibration reaching adjacent rooms—not silent printing and not a guaranteed “3 dB” reduction. Install all four pads on a rigid, level support, test at production settings, and keep them only if the printer remains stable and print quality is unchanged or better.
