Peacock solved one problem for U.S. WWE fans by bringing the WWE Network into a mainstream streaming service. It created another by making a purpose-built wrestling archive feel more like a temporary, general-purpose streaming category.
The criticism is partly historical now. Netflix became the U.S. home of WWE’s pre-September 2025 Premium Live Event library in January 2026, while ESPN took over U.S. streaming rights for WWE’s major Premium Live Events. Peacock still carries selected WWE programming, including Saturday Night’s Main Event, the SmackDown library, documentaries and other archive material.
That makes this a retrospective of the Peacock WWE experience—and an explanation of why the move to multiple services made the underlying problem even clearer.

WWE events are long, expensive productions built around momentum. An interruption can cut into an entrance, video package, backstage segment, match transition or post-match celebration.

Peacock’s standard Premium plan is ad-supported. Premium Plus is marketed as having no ads, but Peacock explicitly preserves exceptions for live sports, live events, sponsored content and certain other programming. In other words, paying more does not guarantee an uninterrupted WWE event.
App-store reviews and BBB complaints include recurring reports of excessive advertising, ads returning after scrubbing and ads appearing despite a higher-priced plan. Those are customer reports, not proof that every account behaves identically, but they explain why the issue remains a common frustration.
2. “No ads” does not mean “no interruptions”
The plan language is easy to misunderstand. There is a meaningful difference between an ad inserted into eligible on-demand programming and an interruption retained in a live sports feed.

- On-demand programming: may be covered by the no-ads promise, subject to Peacock’s terms.
- Live WWE events: remain subject to live-event exceptions.
- Sponsored content: may still contain promotional material.
- Replays: may retain elements of the live presentation or trigger advertising behavior after restarting or seeking.
The fair criticism is not that Peacock secretly promises a completely ad-free WWE experience. It is that the phrase “no ads” can create expectations that the live-event terms do not support.
3. Replays can be confusing or delayed
Premium Live Events often last several hours, so replay handling is not a minor feature. Many fans cannot watch live and depend on a clear, quickly available full replay.
Some viewers have reported that an event did not immediately become available as a replay, or that they had to wait for a separate replay version to appear. These reports are anecdotal, so “some viewers report replay delays” is more accurate than claiming Peacock always delays replays.
When an event ends, viewers may need to determine whether it is:
- Still listed as a live broadcast.
- Available under the event’s title.
- Filed under WWE or Sports.
- Visible in Continue Watching.
- Available in full rather than as clips or a condensed version.
The experience is particularly awkward when “Join Live” and “Start from Beginning” are not obvious, or when restarting a stream returns the viewer to the live position instead of the opening bell.

4. Live-stream failures hurt more during WWE
Peacock’s official troubleshooting guidance recommends at least 8 Mbps for certain high-quality live events and ultra-high-definition content. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee that playback will remain stable.
Buffering during an ordinary sitcom is annoying. Buffering during a title match can mean missing the finish, falling behind the live conversation or returning to a confusing point in the broadcast. The length of WWE events creates more opportunities for playback problems, pauses and failed seeks.
App-store reviews include reports of freezing, incorrect resume behavior and needing to close and reopen the app. Those reports should be treated as individual experiences rather than controlled evidence of a universal defect.
5. The WWE library became fragmented
The original WWE Network promise was centralized access: current events, historical WWE programming, WCW and ECW footage, documentaries and originals in one wrestling-focused destination. The Peacock era never made that promise permanently secure.
In the U.S. in 2026:
- Netflix carries the pre-September 2025 WWE Premium Live Event library and other WWE library programming.
- ESPN platforms are the home of WWE’s major current Premium Live Events under the announced rights agreement.
- Peacock continues to promote selected WWE shows, documentaries and archive content.
- SmackDown remains listed on Peacock.
- Saturday Night’s Main Event remains listed on Peacock.
So Peacock did not simply “lose all WWE.” The more precise criticism is that it did not preserve a single, predictable WWE home.
6. The archive is not organized like a historical database
Wrestling fans often browse by era, wrestler, promotion, championship, event, date or weekly-show chronology. A serious archive should make those paths easy.
Peacock’s WWE presentation emphasizes broad categories such as documentaries, originals, archives and selected shows. It does not offer the same obvious wrestling-first structure fans expect from a dedicated network. Finding every episode of a show, following a wrestler’s career or moving from a pay-per-view to the related weekly episodes can require manual searching.

The important distinction is between a large video collection and a useful historical archive. The 2021 launch promoted more than 17,000 hours of WWE content. That original figure does not prove that every episode, match, promotion or historical version remains available today.
7. Search and discovery are too general-purpose
Peacock is designed for movies, scripted series, channels, sports and other NBCUniversal programming—not solely for wrestling historians. WWE content competes with everything else on the platform.
That can make similar event names difficult to distinguish, push clips or documentaries ahead of full events and obscure the chronology of a series. Naming conventions may vary, and the interface may not clearly explain why an expected episode or event is absent.
These are interface criticisms rather than proof that every search fails. But for a fan looking for a specific old WrestleMania, WCW event, ECW program or match, a general streaming search is a poor substitute for a complete wrestling index.
8. Content may be edited, missing or renamed
Peacock’s WWE information warns that a small amount of content may be edited for legal or other reasons. That matters particularly for older footage, which can involve music rights, sponsored segments, talent agreements, third-party licensing and broadcast standards.
A title appearing in search results does not necessarily mean it is identical to the version fans remember. Before assuming an archive entry is complete, check:
- Whether the runtime matches expectations.
- Whether entrances and original music remain intact.
- Whether video packages or matches are missing.
- Whether the episode is labeled as edited.
- Whether commentary, sponsorships or other presentation elements have changed.
Availability can also differ between Peacock, Netflix, ESPN and services outside the United States.
9. Live delay makes spoiler avoidance harder
Internet live streams generally run behind the source feed by some amount, and pausing or buffering can increase the gap. WWE fans are especially exposed because results appear quickly on social media, wrestling news sites, group chats and push notifications.

There is no reliable universal Peacock latency figure to quote: delay varies by device, connection, event and platform. The practical precautions are simple:
- Disable wrestling and sports-result notifications before the event.
- Avoid social media and live-result pages.
- Use “Start from Beginning” rather than accidentally joining at the current live point.
- Do not pause unless necessary; every pause can increase the delay.
- Use the replay if watching live is not realistic.
10. The pricing is awkward for WWE-only viewers
Peacock’s WWE page displayed the following U.S. prices in August 2026: Premium at $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year, and Premium Plus at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year. The page also listed a $5.99 monthly student offer for eligible students. Prices and promotions can change.
That value depends on what you actually watch. A household that wants Peacock’s broader entertainment catalog may consider WWE an added benefit. A WWE-only viewer may see the subscription as paying for a large catalog they do not want—especially now that major current events and older PLEs are split across ESPN and Netflix.
An annual plan lowers the effective monthly cost, but it also increases the risk of committing to a service whose WWE catalog can change during the billing period.

11. Device and app behavior can vary
Peacock supports many devices, but support does not guarantee identical playback behavior everywhere. The original WWE migration announcement listed platforms including Roku, Apple devices, Android and Google devices, Xbox, PlayStation, Samsung, Vizio and LG products.
Smart-TV apps, browsers, mobile devices, consoles, streaming boxes and casting methods can differ in resume behavior, captions, picture quality, audio synchronization and seeking. Fan reports have described Roku playback issues, audio/video-sync complaints and unexpected advertising behavior, but those reports are anecdotal and should not be generalized to every device.
If playback fails, Peacock recommends checking the connection, restarting the app and device, updating software, reducing network congestion and trying another supported device. Comparing native app playback with browser or casting playback can also help identify whether the problem is platform-specific.

12. Rights changes undermine the whole value proposition
This is the deepest problem. It is not one broken button or one inconvenient ad. It is the fact that fans can subscribe for a seemingly permanent archive, only to see the rights arrangement change.

That sequence demonstrates the central limitation of streaming: subscribers buy access, not ownership. A watchlist can outlive a rights deal, but the service hosting the video may not.
What should WWE fans do when a title is missing?
- Search the exact event or show name.
- Search by year and franchise.
- Check Peacock’s WWE category and sports schedule.
- Confirm the title through current WWE programming information.
- Check Netflix for older WWE Premium Live Events.
- Check ESPN for current major U.S. Premium Live Events.
- Verify that the chosen subscription tier includes the content before signing up.
A missing title may have moved services, expired, been filed under another name, been reduced to clips, or been edited or withheld for legal reasons.
Is Peacock still worth it for WWE?
Peacock remains a reasonable choice for viewers who specifically want Saturday Night’s Main Event, the SmackDown archive, WWE documentaries and Peacock’s wider entertainment catalog. It is a poor fit for anyone expecting every major WWE event or a complete, permanent WWE/WCW/ECW archive in one place.

For current major Premium Live Events, check ESPN. For older WWE Premium Live Events and transferred library programming, check Netflix. For selected WWE shows and remaining archive material, check Peacock. Fans who want everything should expect multiple subscriptions and changing availability.
The fairest verdict is that Peacock was useful and sometimes good value, but it was never a perfect replacement for the dedicated WWE Network. Its biggest weakness was structural: the fan paid for temporary access to a library controlled by changing corporate rights agreements.
