#1 Best Overall
Choose by workflow, not by headline price
Visual, no-code selection
ParseHub, Octoparse, Import.io and Webscraper.io let you select elements or configure tasks without building a crawler from scratch. This is efficient for a finite set of pages and analyst-led work. Test pagination, nested data, login steps and JavaScript interactions before assuming a visual task will remain maintainable.
One API call from an application
ScrapingBee, ScraperAPI and Scrape.do are aimed at teams that want an HTTP interface while the provider handles some combination of browser rendering, proxies, retries, geo-targeting and access challenges. Compare the billable unit: a request, credit, browser render or proxy bandwidth may consume different amounts for the same URL.
Code-first control
Libraries such as Scrapy, Selenium, Puppeteer and Playwright are commonly used when you need custom parsing, testable code or an on-premises runtime. A survey of hundreds of professionals from the Apify and The Web Scraping Club communities stated that “The most used frameworks are Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright, and Scrapy.” That is a self-selected community sample, not a market-share measurement.
Managed cloud orchestration
Apify provides a broad cloud platform with prebuilt Actors, APIs, storage, scheduling and integrations. Oxylabs, Bright Data and Zyte are more infrastructure-oriented options for organizations that need managed access, geographic coverage or high-volume extraction. Diffbot focuses on turning pages into structured entities rather than making you design every selector.
Match the tool to the target website
Static HTML
If the data is present in the initial response, a lightweight parser or API plan may be enough. Avoid paying a browser-rendering multiplier when a normal HTTP fetch produces the required fields.
JavaScript-rendered pages
Use a real browser or a service that renders JavaScript when content appears only after scripts run. ParseHub, ScrapingBee, Scrape.do, Apify and the browser-oriented platforms describe support for dynamic pages. Verify that the service waits for the application state you need rather than merely waiting a fixed number of seconds.
Multi-step navigation and sessions
Product filters, pagination, login flows and cart-like journeys require stateful sessions, click actions and reliable retries. A visual tool can work for a simple flow; code or a configurable cloud platform is easier to version and review when the sequence becomes business-critical.
Geographic responses and access controls
Prices, search results and inventory can vary by country or region. Check geo-targeting, proxy type and session persistence. CAPTCHA handling and automated unblocking are described for some managed providers, but results depend on the target site and the provider’s current policy.
What to compare during a pilot
- Define a success record. Decide which fields must be present, how freshness is measured and how duplicates are removed.
- Use representative URLs. Include static and JavaScript pages, pagination, errors, regional variants and any login or consent step you actually need.
- Measure successful output. Record valid-field rate, missing pages, duplicate rate, latency and the percentage of runs requiring a retry.
- Track operational effort. Count selector fixes, proxy or browser configuration, alert handling and engineering time, not only vendor invoices.
- Calculate cost per usable result. Divide total service and infrastructure cost by records that pass your validation rules.
- Check deployment fit. Confirm local versus cloud execution, concurrency, logs, scheduling, team permissions, export destinations and retention.
A 2026 survey cited by Apify and The Web Scraping Club reported that 65.8% of respondents used more proxies than in the preceding year. The survey was conducted in December 2025 among those communities, did not define “more” as requests or gigabytes, and was self-selected; use it as dated context rather than a forecast for all scraping users.
Tool-by-tool guidance
Apify
Choose Apify when you want one cloud workspace for browser automation, scraping jobs, storage, schedules, APIs and integrations, or when a prebuilt Actor can shorten development. It is a strong platform candidate, but validate the current free-credit and paid-plan terms, Actor-specific costs, concurrency and storage against your workload.
Oxylabs
Oxylabs is aimed at organizations that want extraction APIs alongside proxy management. Its described automated unblocking, CAPTCHA handling and search or e-commerce APIs may reduce infrastructure work. Request a workload estimate that reflects your target sites and proxy consumption instead of relying on a generic monthly figure.
Bright Data
Bright Data emphasizes large-scale collection, proxy services, collection APIs, geographic coverage and Web Unlocker. It can fit difficult, distributed jobs, but compare plan pricing with pay-as-you-go costs and account for proxy use. Its comparison article is useful for criteria, not neutral proof, because Bright Data also sells services in the category.
ParseHub
ParseHub’s visual editor is suited to users who need AJAX or JavaScript support without writing a crawler. Scheduling and API integration help move a task into an application workflow. Check which advanced capabilities are restricted to higher plans and whether your selectors survive layout changes.
Diffbot
Diffbot is appropriate when the output is a structured representation of pages and an AI-assisted, API-first workflow is preferable to hand-maintained selectors. Test entity fields on your own content types and budget integration work for authentication, schema mapping and downstream validation.
Rank #3
Octoparse
Octoparse offers point-and-click task creation, local or cloud execution, IP rotation and export. It is approachable for beginners and small teams. Confirm operating-system support and cloud limits, and allow time to learn the tool if your flow includes nested lists, repeated clicks or complex branching.
Scrape.do
Scrape.do targets data teams that want dashboard monitoring plus proxy selection, rendering, retries, geo-targeting and structured output. It is a candidate for production APIs where observability matters. Verify the current allowance and how rendering or premium geography changes consumption.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
ScrapingBee
ScrapingBee provides a developer-oriented API for JavaScript-heavy sites, with browser and proxy handling abstracted behind the request. It can reduce browser infrastructure, but pricing depends on credits and enabled features. Test browser-rendered pages and compare credit burn with a non-rendered request.
ScraperAPI
ScraperAPI combines API access with proxy, browser, retry and CAPTCHA-related infrastructure. It can simplify a service integration when you do not want to operate those layers yourself. Check plan-specific geo-targeting limits and treat beta-labelled features as changeable until you confirm them for production.
Zyte
Zyte is positioned for complex and larger-scale extraction. The comparison describes usage-based pricing that varies with site difficulty and browser rendering, so a single advertised rate cannot predict your bill. Ask for an estimate based on actual URLs, render requirements and expected concurrency.
Import.io
Import.io combines point-and-click extraction with managed solutions for business and analyst workflows. Public pricing is unclear in the comparison and a quote is required, so define implementation, support, export and refresh requirements before requesting one.

Webscraper.io
Webscraper.io’s browser extension provides a free local starting point, while cloud functions are priced separately. It is useful for visual extraction and quick experiments. Move to a more capable rendering or orchestration approach if complex page structures cannot be represented reliably in the extension.
Cost, reliability and maintenance
Why plan prices are not comparable
A low monthly price can become expensive when every JavaScript render, premium proxy, retry or failed attempt consumes extra credits. Ask each vendor what counts as a request, whether unsuccessful responses are billed, how browser time is measured and whether concurrency or storage is capped.
Reliability controls
Look for retries with backoff, session persistence, queue visibility, structured logs, scheduling, alerting and a way to replay failed URLs. Keep raw responses or screenshots where policy permits so parser changes can be diagnosed. Separate transient network failures from a valid empty result and from a blocked or challenge page.
Maintenance budget
No tool eliminates target-site change. Estimate time for selector updates, schema validation, proxy rotation, authentication renewal and legal or contractual review. A managed service may raise the invoice while lowering engineering hours; a local library may do the reverse.

The result is blank
Check whether the data is injected after JavaScript execution, hidden behind a consent step, or loaded only after scrolling. Enable browser rendering or an explicit wait, then inspect the returned HTML and logs. If the site serves a challenge page, confirm proxy geography and the provider’s current access features.
Fields are missing or duplicated
Inspect the page’s repeated containers and pagination boundaries. Tighten selectors, add a stable record key, deduplicate downstream and validate required fields before writing the record as successful.
Runs time out
Reduce concurrency, increase the request or browser timeout within your plan, and identify the slowest URL class. Avoid an unconditional long delay when waiting for a specific selector or network state is available.
Costs exceed the estimate
Break usage into ordinary requests, browser renders, retries, proxy traffic and premium geography. Compare billed units with successful records and disable rendering or resources that are not needed for a given route.

A visual task breaks after a redesign
Re-run it against representative pages, replace brittle positional selectors with stable attributes where available, and add regression URLs to every deployment. If the workflow has become a multi-step application, migrate it to version-controlled code or a configurable cloud job.
When you need screenshots as part of a data workflow
Scraping extracts fields; visual QA, audit trails and page previews need screenshots. ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try for website screenshots because it removes consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has the lowest paid plan in this category.
It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. Options include full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, PDF paper settings and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture, hide selectors, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, request and resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agent and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed public-image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Its parameter names are compatible with those used by other screenshot APIs, which can simplify migration.
Or skip the browser setup
Use one GET request; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the complete option list.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Cookie banners, popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed; response headers identify the page verdict and whether it was billed. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
A practical shortlist
Start with the simplest tool that meets your target-site requirements. Choose a visual product for a small, analyst-owned job; an API for an application integration; code for maximum control; and a managed platform when proxy, browser and operational work would otherwise dominate your team’s time. Keep the pilot metrics, credit rules and maintenance cost visible so the “best” tool remains the one that produces dependable, usable data at a cost you can explain.
Frequently Asked Questions
How should I compare two tools when both support JavaScript?
Run the same representative URLs through both and compare valid-field rate, browser or credit consumption, latency, retries and maintenance effort. “Supports JavaScript” alone does not describe wait behavior, session handling or cost.
Should a first production deployment run locally or in the cloud?
Use local execution when you need tight control or a small batch; use cloud execution when scheduling, concurrency, shared logs and team access outweigh infrastructure control. Confirm data-retention and export requirements either way.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat evidence is strong enough to approve a scraping tool?
A repeatable pilot on your own target pages with recorded successful-record cost, failure modes, latency and parser-maintenance time is stronger than vendor feature lists, review scores or a generic plan comparison.
