If Siri won’t end a call on your iPhone, first check Settings → Accessibility → Siri → Call Hangup and turn it on. During a supported Phone or FaceTime call, say “Siri, hang up.” The feature requires an iPhone 11, iPhone SE (2nd generation), or later, a supported language, and downloaded speech models. People on the call can hear the command. Apple’s guide to Siri accessibility settings lists these requirements.
First distinguish a failure to end calls on command from calls that end unexpectedly; they are different problems. The steps below troubleshoot Siri’s call-ending feature, not ordinary dropped calls.
Identify the symptom first

Turn on Call Hangup in Accessibility
Open Settings → Accessibility → Siri → Call Hangup and switch on Call Hangup. This is separate from the main Siri activation controls, which may be under Apple Intelligence & Siri or Siri, depending on the iOS version and device. Place a test call after enabling it.

Use the documented phrase during a Phone or FaceTime call
While a Phone or FaceTime call is active, say “Siri, hang up” or “Hey Siri, hang up.” Apple documents Call Hangup for Phone and FaceTime calls; its guide does not promise support for every third-party calling app, so test with the Phone app first.
Be aware that other participants can hear the spoken command. If that is unsuitable for a confidential conversation, use an on-screen or hardware call control instead.

Try activating Siri with the Side button
During a test call, press and hold the Side button, then say “hang up.” If that works but the wake phrase does not, Call Hangup itself is likely available; focus on wake-word recognition, microphone placement, or voice training.

Check that Siri activation works at all
Ask Siri a simple question outside a call, such as the time. If Siri does not respond, open Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri or Settings → Siri → Talk & Type to Siri, depending on the labels shown on your iPhone. Make sure “Siri” or “Hey Siri” is enabled.
If it is already on, turn it off and back on, then test again. Apple recommends this as a basic Siri troubleshooting step in its Siri troubleshooting guide.

Retrain Siri to recognize your voice
If Side-button activation works but the wake phrase does not, retrain voice recognition. Go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri or Siri → Talk & Type to Siri, turn off Listen for “Siri” or “Hey Siri”, then turn it back on and complete the prompts. Tap Done when setup finishes.

Restart the iPhone
After changing Siri settings or retraining the voice prompt, restart the iPhone and test again. A restart is a low-risk way to check whether Siri or its settings are stuck in a temporary software state. If the Call Hangup switch is still missing after restarting, move on to eligibility, language, and restriction checks rather than repeatedly restarting.

Confirm the iPhone model is supported
Apple lists Call Hangup as available on iPhone 11, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and later. An older iPhone may not show the control even if it can run a version of iOS that otherwise supports Siri.
To check the model, open Settings → General → About. A missing Call Hangup option on an unsupported model is an availability limit, not evidence of a faulty setting.

Check the Siri language and region
Call Hangup is not available in every language, and Siri features vary by language, country, and region. Check Settings → General → Language & Region and Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → Language (or the corresponding Siri settings on your version of iOS). Compare the selected language and location with Apple’s iOS 26 feature availability information.

Changing Siri’s language can be a diagnostic test if you are comfortable using another supported language; it is not a guaranteed fix, and availability can depend on both language and region.

Give required speech models time to download
Apple says Call Hangup requires downloaded speech models. Connect the iPhone to Wi‑Fi, plug it into power, and leave it idle for a while. Restart it and test again later.
Apple does not specify a universal download time or provide a guaranteed manual download button for these models. If the feature remains unavailable, do not assume a model download is the sole cause; check the other requirements too.

Make sure Siri’s responses are audible
If Siri appears to activate but you cannot hear a response, open Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → Siri Responses and choose Prefer Spoken Responses. Apple says this makes Siri speak even when Silent mode is on. You can also adjust the iPhone’s Siri volume while Siri is speaking; it is different from the call’s audio volume.

A quiet or inaudible response does not necessarily mean Siri failed to hear you. Test the call-ending command and watch whether the call actually disconnects.

Isolate VPN, device restrictions, and call audio routes
If Siri settings are missing or unavailable, temporarily disconnect a consumer VPN and test again. Apple notes that some VPN profiles may prevent Siri use, particularly when Siri settings do not appear. If the iPhone is managed by a workplace or school, ask its administrator about restrictions; do not remove a managed profile without approval.
Then test a normal cellular Phone call and a FaceTime audio call separately, first using the iPhone itself and then, if relevant, headphones or CarPlay. Apple names Phone and FaceTime as supported call types but does not guarantee identical behavior through every third-party app or audio route. A Bluetooth microphone, CarPlay microphone, background noise, or an obstructed phone microphone can also affect voice pickup; testing without those variables helps isolate the problem.

If Siri understands but the call stays connected
Run a controlled test: use a regular Phone call, activate Siri with the Side button, and test without headphones, Bluetooth, or CarPlay. Then test FaceTime audio separately. If the Side-button method works but voice activation does not, revisit wake-word setup and microphone conditions. If neither method ends calls in either supported app despite Call Hangup being on, the model being eligible, and the language being supported, the issue may be a software or device-specific defect; the available documentation does not establish a general iOS 26 Call Hangup bug.
If calls are ending unexpectedly
That is not the same symptom as Siri refusing to hang up on command. As a diagnostic test, turn Settings → Accessibility → Siri → Call Hangup off and observe whether unexpected disconnections continue. Apple describes the setting as a command-based way to end calls, not as a general cause of dropped calls. A community report that disabling it helped one person is anecdotal, not proof of an iOS 26 defect. If disconnections persist, investigate the call, network, or audio route separately.
Use a dependable fallback
If you rely on hands-free calling, keep another way to end a call available while troubleshooting. Use the red End Call button on screen, or the call control on a connected headset or CarPlay system. If you need voice-based or screen-reader access, consider whether Voice Control or VoiceOver suits your setup.
If the feature still fails, note the iPhone model and iOS version, whether Siri works outside calls, whether the issue affects Phone, FaceTime, or both, and whether it changes without Bluetooth, CarPlay, or a VPN. Those details will help Apple Support distinguish an eligibility issue from a Siri activation or software problem.
