キオクシアは2023年5月22日（日本語発表は5月23日）、クライアントPC向けNVMe SSD「KIOXIA BG6」シリーズを発表しました。PCIe 4.0 x4に対応し、M.2 2230と2280の片面実装モデルを用意。最大容量は2,048GBです。ただし、発表されたのは製品追加とOEM顧客向け評価サンプルの出荷予定で、一般向けの販売開始日や価格ではありません。
BG6は薄型ノートPCなどを想定したOEM向けSSD
BG6は、キオクシアのクライアントPC向けSSDシリーズです。薄型ノートPC、2-in-1、ウルトラモバイルPCなど、小型・省スペースの機器への搭載を想定しています。PCIe 4.0 x4とNVMe 1.4cに対応し、専用DRAMを搭載しないDRAMレス設計です。ホスト側のメモリの一部を利用するHost Memory Buffer（HMB）をサポートします。
シリーズの特徴は、M.2 2230という短い基板サイズでも最大2TBを選べることです。小型機器でストレージ容量を増やしたい設計者にとって選択肢になります。一方、BG6はOEM組み込みを主眼とする製品で、一般消費者向けのパッケージ品と同じ販売条件や保証があるとは限りません。

キオクシアの発表によると、OEM顧客向け評価用サンプルの出荷は2023年後半に開始する予定でした。発表時点で一般販売日、店頭価格、量産開始日は示されていません。「発売」と表現されることがありますが、消費者向けSSDがその日から店頭で買えるという意味ではありません。日本語の公式発表と米国向け発表で、発表内容を確認できます。

公式製品情報に掲載されているモデルは、M.2 2230とM.2 2280の各4容量です。いずれも片面実装モデルとして案内されています。

TCG Opal 2.01準拠の自己暗号化ドライブ（SED）モデルもありますが、全モデルに標準搭載される機能ではありません。地域や型番ごとに構成が異なるため、セキュリティ機能が必要なら個別の仕様を確認してください。型番やラインアップの詳細はキオクシアのBG6製品ページに掲載されています。
容量ごとの公称性能と耐久性
以下は公式ページに記載された最大性能とTBWです。数値はメーカー公称の上限であり、実際のベンチマーク結果や、あらゆる環境での持続性能を示すものではありません。

性能は、容量、ホストPC、ファームウェア、温度、負荷、キャッシュの状態などで変わります。特に短時間の最大書き込み速度だけでは、長時間の連続書き込み性能は判断できません。TBWは書き込み耐久性の目安で、寿命や保証期間をそのまま表す数値ではありません。
BiCS FLASHは容量によって世代が異なる
BG6発表時の主な訴求点は、第6世代BiCS FLASH 3Dフラッシュメモリの採用でした。ただし、公式製品ページでは256GBと512GBモデルについて、第5世代BiCS FLASH TLCを使用すると注記されています。そのため「BG6は全容量が第6世代」と一括りにするのは正確ではありません。
キオクシアは、BG5シリーズの1,024GBモデルと比較してBG6の性能が約1.7倍向上したと説明しています。この比較は特定のBG5容量モデルを基準にしたメーカー説明であり、すべての容量や性能指標で一律に1.7倍になるという意味ではありません。

DRAMレスとHMBの意味
DRAMレスSSDは、SSD基板上に専用DRAMを搭載せず、HMBによってホストPCのメモリの一部を利用する設計です。部品や基板面積を抑えやすく、小型機器に向く構成ですが、HMBはSSD内蔵DRAMと同じものではありません。DRAMレスであることだけから、常に低消費電力または高速だとはいえず、実際の挙動は用途やPC側の構成にも左右されます。

M.2 2230は長さ30mm、2280は80mmです。2230は小型ノートPCなどで使われ、2280は一般的なノートPCやデスクトップでよく採用されます。ただし、M.2スロットがあるだけでは、両方のサイズやすべてのSSDへの対応は保証されません。

- PCIe接続や対応容量、BIOSの認識条件を確認する
- 片面実装の制限、ヒートシンクや筐体との干渉を確認する
- 2230の2TBモデルを選ぶ場合は、機器内の空間と放熱条件も確認する
2,048GBの2230 SSDが製品として用意されていても、すべての2230対応PCがその容量を認識・運用できるとは限りません。
一般ユーザーが購入を検討する場合の注意点
BG6はOEM向けの製品ラインとして発表されたため、今回の公式資料だけでは、一般向け小売価格、店頭在庫、リテール保証を確認できません。販売サイトで型番を見つけても、メーカー製PCから取り外された部品やバルク品である可能性があります。購入前に、販売形態、保証の提供元、返品条件、ファームウェア更新方法を確かめてください。

既存PCの換装なら、型番だけで判断せず、PCメーカーが指定するサイズ・容量・インターフェースを優先してください。一般的な2280 SSDを探していて保証や価格比較を重視する場合は、リテール向け製品の方が選びやすいでしょう。また、BG6はPCIe 4.0製品なので、PCIe 5.0の最高性能が必要な用途向けではありません。長時間の連続書き込みを重視する場合も、公称最大速度だけで決めず、用途に合った持続性能の情報を比較する必要があります。
