अगर लैपटॉप में Kensington, Nano या wedge सिक्योरिटी स्लॉट नहीं है, तो सामान्य केबल लॉक सीधे नहीं लगाया जा सकता। स्थायी डेस्क के लिए सबसे अच्छा व्यावहारिक विकल्प सही मॉडल से मेल खाता लॉकिंग स्टेशन है; कभी-कभार इस्तेमाल के लिए सावधानी से लगाया गया adhesive anchor कमज़ोर deterrent है। जोखिम अधिक हो और लैपटॉप को unattended छोड़ना पड़े, तो उसे साथ ले जाना या बंद, मजबूत कैबिनेट में रखना बेहतर है। साथ में encryption, automatic screen lock, backup और उपलब्ध tracking/remote-management सुविधाएँ रखें—कोई केबल लॉक चोरी को असंभव नहीं बनाता।
पहले जाँचें कि लैपटॉप में सचमुच कोई सिक्योरिटी स्लॉट नहीं है
लैपटॉप बंद करके उसके किनारों की जाँच करें और निर्माता के manual या support पेज में “security slot”, “Kensington”, “NanoSaver”, “wedge lock” और “cable lock” खोजें। Standard Kensington, Kensington Nano और wedge-shaped स्लॉट अलग प्रकार हैं; इनके लॉक हेड को एक-दूसरे के बदले इस्तेमाल न करें। कुछ मशीनों में स्लॉट न होकर proprietary docking connector या किसी locking case का समर्थन हो सकता है।
- लैपटॉप का पूरा मॉडल, generation और product number नोट करें।
- निर्माता के दस्तावेज़ में स्लॉट या compatible locking accessory की पुष्टि करें।
- Kensington के security product selector में manufacturer, model और product number डालकर विकल्प जाँचें। केवल मिलती-जुलती product photo देखकर लॉक न खरीदें।
Charging port, USB port, headphone jack, hinge gap, display bezel या ventilation grille को lock point न मानें। वहाँ केबल बाँधने से port, chassis या motherboard को नुकसान पहुँच सकता है और यह विश्वसनीय सुरक्षा भी नहीं देता।

लॉकिंग स्टेशन या सिक्योरिटी डॉक: रोज़ की स्थायी जगह के लिए
लॉकिंग स्टेशन लैपटॉप को धातु के enclosure या stand में पकड़ता है और स्टेशन को केबल या anchor से किसी मजबूत, स्थिर संरचना से जोड़ा जाता है। Kensington के अनुसार उसके locking stations बिना built-in slot वाले पतले लैपटॉप—MacBook समेत कुछ मॉडलों—के लिए बनाए जाते हैं। वास्तविक फिट लैपटॉप के exact model और dimensions पर निर्भर है; खरीद से पहले station की compatibility और design जाँचें।

Adhesive security anchor: कभी-कभार के लिए सीमित deterrent
ऐसा anchor लैपटॉप की बाहरी सतह पर चिपकता है और compatible cable lock के लिए attachment point बनाता है। इसे केवल उस मजबूत, सपाट सतह पर लगाएँ जिसकी अनुमति anchor निर्माता देता है—vents, hinge, label, removable panel या गर्म होने वाली सतह पर नहीं। सतह साफ, सूखी और grease-free होनी चाहिए; बताए गए curing time तक उस पर भार न डालें।
खरीद से पहले निर्माता की surface, load, removal और cable-compatibility हिदायतें पढ़ें। गर्मी, धूल, textured coating, तेलीय सतह या अपर्याप्त curing से adhesive छूट सकता है। इसे high-force anti-theft protection न समझें: कोई व्यक्ति anchor उखाड़ या केबल काट सकता है, और झटके से खींचने पर लैपटॉप का chassis भी टूट सकता है। हटाने से finish, paint या anodized coating प्रभावित हो सकती है।

Universal clamp या lock-point वाला case: तभी जब exact fit प्रमाणित हो
कुछ tether systems clamp, case या proprietary attachment से लैपटॉप पकड़ते हैं। ऐसा विकल्प तभी लें जब निर्माता आपके exact model को support करता हो, attachment screen, hinge या ports पर दबाव न डालता हो, और केबल किसी मजबूत fixed object से जुड़ सके। Lock-point वाले protective case में generation और port layout का मेल भी जाँचें; अनुपयुक्त या खराब ventilation वाला case hinge clearance, charging या thermal performance को प्रभावित कर सकता है।

यदि लैपटॉप को लंबे समय तक unattended छोड़ना है, तो bolted steel cabinet, lockable drawer या access-controlled कमरे में रखना पतली केबल पर निर्भर रहने से बेहतर containment हो सकता है। Hotel safe तभी विकल्प है जब उसमें लैपटॉप ठीक से समा सके और safe उपयुक्त जगह पर स्थिर हो। अधिक जोखिम वाली जगह में लैपटॉप अपने साथ ले जाना सबसे सीधा विकल्प है।

केबल का दूसरा सिरा सही जगह बाँधें
केबल का मजबूत होना पर्याप्त नहीं है—जिस वस्तु से वह जुड़ी है, उसकी मजबूती भी उतनी ही मायने रखती है। Kensington अपने cable locks को desk, table या fixed structure से anchor करने के लिए बताता है; फिर भी cable lock को पूर्ण चोरी-रोकथाम न समझें।
- उपयुक्त जगहों में bolted metal desk frame, स्थायी रूप से जुड़ा furniture, manufacturer-approved anchor plate या tamper-resistant security bar शामिल हैं।
- हल्की मेज़ की टाँग, कुर्सी, removable monitor arm, decorative trim या ऐसी pipe/railing से न बाँधें जिसकी मजबूती और ownership स्पष्ट न हो।
- केबल को इस तरह रखें कि कोई उसे झटके से खींचकर लैपटॉप न उठा सके और वह emergency exit या सामान्य आवाजाही में बाधा न बने।
Kensington के ClickSafe lock पेज पर भी fixed structure से anchor करने का उपयोग बताया गया है। केबल काटी जा सकती है, lock पर हमला हो सकता है या पूरा कमजोर furniture हटाया जा सकता है; उद्देश्य जोखिम कम करना है, उसे मिटाना नहीं।

भौतिक लॉक के साथ डेटा और खाते सुरक्षित करें
Windows लैपटॉप
- मजबूत password या Windows Hello रखें और डेस्क छोड़ते समय Windows + L दबाएँ।
- जागने के बाद sign-in माँगने के लिए Start → Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options → Require sign-in जाँचें। Sleep और display timeout सेट करें; Microsoft की सामान्य शुरुआती सलाह में 10–15 मिनट idle interval शामिल है, लेकिन साझा या संवेदनशील कार्यस्थल में संगठन की नीति के अनुसार इससे कम समय चुनें।
- महत्वपूर्ण फ़ाइलों का लैपटॉप से अलग सुरक्षित backup रखें और साझा डिवाइस के लिए अलग user account बनाएँ।
- Encryption चालू है या नहीं, यह अपने Windows version, edition, hardware और संगठन की policy के अनुसार सत्यापित करें। BitLocker की उपलब्धता और प्रबंधन हर Windows लैपटॉप पर एक जैसे नहीं हैं।

Mac
- मजबूत login password, automatic lock और FileVault encryption चालू रखें।
- System Settings → [आपका नाम] → iCloud → See All → Find My Mac में Find My की स्थिति जाँचें; macOS संस्करण के अनुसार labels बदल सकते हैं। Apple Account पर two-factor authentication रखें और recovery जानकारी सुरक्षित रखें।
- Find My उपलब्ध हो तो खोए Mac को locate करने, Lost Mode/lock करने या remote erase करने के विकल्प मिल सकते हैं। उपलब्धता देश/क्षेत्र और Mac hardware पर निर्भर करती है।
Apple के अनुसार Activation Lock के लिए Find My पहले से enabled होना चाहिए। Apple silicon और T2-equipped Intel Mac पर इसके लिए उपयुक्त macOS और startup/security settings तथा Apple Account पर two-factor authentication जैसी शर्तें लागू होती हैं। Activation Lock की requirements और Find My के Mac features देखें।

कंपनी द्वारा प्रबंधित डिवाइस
काम के लैपटॉप के लिए IT टीम से पूछें कि MDM/UEM enrollment, remote lock/wipe, disk encryption और asset tracking लागू हैं या नहीं। Lenovo Smart Lock Services, Windows उपकरणों के लिए locate, remote lock, data wipe और recovery सेवाएँ विज्ञापित करता है; उपलब्धता, enrollment और service terms क्षेत्र तथा योजना पर निर्भर हैं। Lenovo की सेवा जानकारी देखें। इसे सामान्य consumer feature या चोरी के बाद निश्चित recovery न मानें।
लैपटॉप खो जाए या चोरी हो जाए तो तुरंत क्या करें?
- पहले से सक्षम Find My या संगठन के management portal से डिवाइस को locate करने की कोशिश करें और उपलब्ध हो तो lock या Lost Mode लगाएँ।
- यदि डेटा के जोखिम के कारण ज़रूरी हो तो remote erase करें। Mac पर remote action के लिए डिवाइस powered on और internet-connected होना पड़ सकता है; offline Mac online होने पर command ले सकता है। Erase करने से डिवाइस वापस मिलने की गारंटी नहीं मिलती। Apple के lost या stolen Mac निर्देश और remote erase तथा Activation Lock जानकारी देखें।
- Apple Account, Microsoft account और उन महत्वपूर्ण सेवाओं के password बदलें जिनके sessions लैपटॉप पर खुले हो सकते हैं; सक्रिय sessions revoke करें।
- Serial number, model, receipt और asset ID के साथ पुलिस तथा insurer को सूचना दें; work device हो तो IT टीम को तुरंत बताएँ।
Recovery के लिए पहले से serial और model number, खरीद की रसीद तथा तस्वीरें सुरक्षित cloud location में रखें। Backup और recovery codes लैपटॉप से अलग रखें; work device पर asset tag लगाएँ और बीमा की theft conditions पढ़ें।

- USB, headphone jack, charging port, hinge, display bezel या ventilation grille में केबल न डालें।
- Standard, Nano और wedge lock head को interchangeable न मानें और स्लॉट में लॉक जबरन न लगाएँ।

- किसी adhesive anchor को permanent या high-force protection न समझें और manufacturer की surface तथा curing instructions छोड़े बिना इस्तेमाल न करें।
- किसी cable lock को “theft-proof” न मानें। वह opportunistic theft रोकने में मदद कर सकता है, लेकिन काटे जाने, हटाए जाने या लैपटॉप के chassis को नुकसान पहुँचने की आशंका बनी रहती है।
