There is no single LG code that works with every universal remote. Codes belong to the remote’s own library and vary by brand, model, code-list revision and firmware. If you do not know the code, use the remote’s automatic, manual or brand-code search instead. The exact buttons differ between GE/Jasco, RCA, One For All, cable-company and other remotes.
LG’s Universal Control is a separate feature: it configures an LG Magic Remote to operate connected equipment. It is not the code-entry procedure for a third-party universal remote.
Before you start
- Find the universal remote’s brand and exact model number.
- Check the battery compartment or cover for a code-list revision. Jasco remotes, for example, use CL3, CL4, CL5 or CL6 lists; choose the revision shown on your remote at Jasco’s code lookup.
- Identify the device key used for the television:
TV,AUX,STRor another label. - Install fresh batteries and identify whether you are controlling an LG TV, soundbar, set-top box or streaming device.
- Confirm that the remote is intended for infrared (IR) equipment. A remote designed only for Bluetooth or RF streaming devices cannot be made to control an IR TV by entering a code.
Use the TV’s physical power button to turn it on if the original LG remote is missing. Most searches require the television to be on before they begin.
How to program an LG TV without entering a code
“Without a code” normally means code search: the remote still sends candidate commands from its internal library, but you do not type a number yourself. This is a common pattern, not a guaranteed sequence for every model.

- Turn on the LG TV manually.
- Point the remote directly at the TV’s infrared receiver.
- Hold
Setup,Code Searchor the model’s equivalent until the indicator remains lit. - Press and release the
TVdevice key. - Start Auto Code Search, Manual Code Search or Brand Code Search as specified by the manual.
- Keep the remote aimed at the set while it tests codes.
- When the TV turns off or responds, stop immediately.
- Press the model’s save key—often
Enter,OK,Saveor the device key. - Turn the TV back on and test power, volume, mute, input, menu, navigation and channel controls.
- If only power works, continue the search. The first responding code may support only a subset of LG commands.
The trigger and save buttons are remote-specific. Do not substitute this list for your model’s manual.
GE, Philips and UltraPro (Jasco) remotes
Jasco’s GE, Philips and UltraPro families use model-specific instructions. Their documented pattern is to select the device key, start the search, let the remote test stored codes (often in groups), and stop when the TV responds. On supported models, VOL ▲ can review individual candidates in the current group; pressing the relevant device key stores the working code. Read the exact procedure at Jasco’s automatic code-search page and use the code-list revision shown in the battery compartment.
Jasco warns that one code may operate only some functions, so a successful power response is not proof of full compatibility. Its troubleshooting guidance is at the Jasco Universal Remote FAQ.
RCA remotes
RCA uses several layouts and button names. Depending on the model, you may find automatic, manual, brand-code and direct-entry searches:

- Turn on the TV and hold
CODE SEARCHor the applicable device key until the indicator stays on. - Press
TV. - Press
POWERrepeatedly or start the model’s automatic search. - When the TV turns off, press
ENTERor the specified save key immediately. - Test all required functions and use the model’s code-retrieval routine if you want to record the stored code.
Consult the manual for your exact remote: RCA RCU300T, RCA RCRH02BR or RCA RCU4GLW. The RCU300T manual notes that a manual search can require up to 200 power-button presses.
One For All remotes
Setup differs among models such as the URC 4811, URC 1811, URC 4911 and multi-device remotes. Select the exact model on One For All’s support page before following its setup or code-search instructions. The URC 4811 is an LG-focused replacement, not a universal sequence that applies to every One For All product.
LG Magic Remote Universal Control is different
LG’s Universal Control configures an LG Magic Remote to operate a connected set-top box or similar external device. It does not program a GE, RCA, Philips, One For All or cable-company remote.
LG lists these menu paths by webOS version:

See LG’s setup instructions and LG’s Universal Control guide. LG says webOS 5.0 and newer may run setup automatically in some situations, and webOS 6.0/22 can automatically discover connected devices. Labels can vary by model, region and software version.

When the TV responds but buttons are missing
Universal remotes contain a limited command library. A code may handle power and volume but not LG Home, Input, Settings, app shortcuts, webOS menus, pointer movement, voice or Bluetooth functions. Try another candidate code if navigation or input matters.
- Make sure the remote is still in
TVmode. - Check whether a soundbar or receiver has taken over volume through a master-volume feature.
- Use the LG Magic Remote for pointer, voice, Bluetooth pairing and model-specific smart-TV commands.
- Test more than power before declaring setup successful.
Jasco documents this partial-function behavior and recommends trying other codes at its code page.
If no code works
- Replace the batteries and verify polarity.
- Use instructions for the exact model, not a similar-looking remote.
- Turn the TV on with its physical control and aim at the IR receiver with a clear line of sight.
- Select the correct device key before searching.
- Try manual search after automatic search, or brand search if available.
- Check that the target is an IR-controlled TV, not a Bluetooth/RF-only device.
- Stop and save as soon as the TV responds; continuing to press the search key can move past the correct code.
- Reset the remote only if its manual provides a reset procedure.

Streaming sticks and device-type traps
A universal remote may operate an LG television but not a Roku or Fire TV stick. Roku TVs, Roku boxes and Roku Streaming Sticks are different targets; the same distinction applies to Fire TV televisions and Fire TV Sticks. Jasco states that some GE models do not support Roku Streaming Sticks or Amazon Fire TV Sticks because those products use RF or Bluetooth rather than ordinary IR. Which remote is the better fit?

For an LG-focused replacement, One For All’s URC 4811 is marketed for LG TVs. Jasco also offers a GE LG replacement remote with a preprogrammed LG TV button, automatic search and multi-device functions. Neither should be assumed to reproduce Magic Remote pointer or voice features.
Code retrieval after setup
Some RCA, Jasco and other remotes can blink or otherwise reveal the stored code after programming. Use the code-retrieval section of the exact manual and write the result down before replacing batteries or resetting the remote. Not every model offers retrieval.

What is the LG code for a universal remote?
There is no universal LG number. The code depends on the remote’s brand, model and code-list version; use its code lookup or search function.
Can I program the TV without the original LG remote?
Usually yes. Turn the television on with its physical button and run the third-party remote’s search. Some smart-TV pairing or network features still require an LG-compatible remote.

Why does power work but volume does not?
The selected code may support only basic commands, the remote may be in the wrong device mode, or volume may be assigned to a soundbar or receiver.
Can a universal remote control LG webOS?
Many IR remotes handle basic power, volume, input and navigation, but pointer, voice, Bluetooth and model-specific webOS features often require an LG Magic Remote.
Can it control a Roku or Fire TV Stick?
Not necessarily. Sticks commonly use RF or Bluetooth; check compatibility separately from an IR-controlled Roku or Fire TV television.
Is LG Universal Control the same as programming a universal remote?
