WebNavigatorBrowser was classified by Malwarebytes as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that behaves like adware. It has been reported to change the default browser, add sponsored results and create persistence such as scheduled tasks. The safest first step is to scan with current Malwarebytes software, quarantine confirmed detections, restart if requested, and then verify Windows tasks, shortcuts and browser settings. Malwarebytes’ original guide was published on November 2, 2020, so current Windows and Malwarebytes labels may differ.
What WebNavigatorBrowser is
Malwarebytes described the analyzed WebNavigatorBrowser sample as a PUP/adware rather than automatically classifying it as a destructive virus. Reported behavior included attempting to become the default browser and displaying additional sponsored search results or advertisements. The guide associates the sample with Better Cloud Solutions Ltd and identifies webnavigatorbrowser.exe as its browser executable. These are historical indicators, not proof that every installation uses identical files or versions.
Some installations may also create desktop, Start-menu or taskbar shortcuts and a scheduled task that launches the program. The Malwarebytes analysis is available in its WebNavigatorBrowser removal guide.
Signs it may be installed
- A browser named WebNavigatorBrowser appears in the Start menu, taskbar, desktop or Installed apps.
- The browser’s About page identifies it as WebNavigatorBrowser.
- Windows’ default-browser choice changed without your clear consent.
- Search pages show unusual sponsored results or extra advertising.
- A shortcut or process points to
webnavigatorbrowser.exe. - Task Scheduler contains a task whose action launches WebNavigatorBrowser.
- The historical sample used a path such as
C:Users<username>AppDataLocalWebNavigatorBrowser. A different path does not rule it out, and the presence of an old folder alone does not prove that the program is active.
Safest removal method: scan first
- Save open work and do not launch WebNavigatorBrowser again.
- Download Malwarebytes for Windows from the official Malwarebytes download page. Avoid mirrors and “PC cleaner” sites.
- Install or update the product, then start the available malware or threat scan. The 2020 guide called this a “Threat Scan”; current product wording and controls may be different.
- Review the results and quarantine confirmed WebNavigatorBrowser or related PUP detections. The original guide used a “Quarantine” control, but do not assume that exact label remains in current releases.
- Restart Windows if Malwarebytes requests it. A reboot can release files and apply cleanup actions.
- After Windows starts, check that the browser no longer opens and continue with the verification steps below.
The scan is the primary route because it can identify related components without asking you to guess which files, registry entries or tasks are safe to remove. A single scan should not be treated as a guarantee for every build or persistence mechanism.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteShould you try Windows’ normal uninstall first?
If WebNavigatorBrowser appears in Settings > Apps > Installed apps or in Control Panel > Programs and Features, you may try its normal uninstaller. Stop if it fails, is blocked, or the browser returns. Do not compensate by deleting random registry keys or folders while the program or its scheduled task is still running.
A Microsoft Q&A user reported having to deal with an AppData parent folder, a scheduled task and the default-browser association after normal removal failed. That is a user-submitted example, not a universal Microsoft procedure; paths and task names can differ between computers. See the report at Microsoft Q&A.

Verify and clean up leftovers
Installed applications and running processes
Reopen Installed apps and look for WebNavigatorBrowser or another unfamiliar program installed at the same time. In Task Manager, end a process only when its file location clearly identifies WebNavigatorBrowser or another confirmed unwanted file. Do not terminate an unfamiliar Windows process solely because its name looks unusual.
Scheduled tasks
Malwarebytes reported that WebNavigatorBrowser creates a scheduled task. To inspect it:

- Delete the task only when the action clearly points to WebNavigatorBrowser or another confirmed unwanted file.
- Restart Windows and verify that the task and browser do not return.
Do not delete every unfamiliar task or paste a copied schtasks command. Malwarebytes explains the review-and-delete process in its scheduled-tasks guide.
Shortcuts and files
Right-click remaining desktop, Start-menu or taskbar shortcuts and inspect their Target fields. Remove shortcuts that point to WebNavigatorBrowser after the program has been quarantined. In File Explorer, you can check the user’s local AppData directory for a WebNavigatorBrowser folder, but do not turn the historical sample path into a universal deletion recipe. A leftover file may be inactive; confirm its execution, persistence and current scan status first.

Restore your preferred browser
In current Windows, open Settings > Apps > Default apps, select your preferred browser and assign it to the relevant web and file-link types. Then open that browser’s settings and review the startup page, search engine, extensions and notification permissions. If settings remain damaged, reinstalling the preferred browser may restore them, as the Malwarebytes guide notes. Menu names vary by Windows release.

A returning browser usually means that a scheduled task, startup entry, bundled installer or related PUP remains. Browser synchronization can also restore an unwanted extension or setting after cleanup.

Do not use a generic Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) fix script copied from another computer. A 2026 community case illustrates that FRST fix lists are written for one machine; the example is at Reddit’s antivirus community. Use a custom script only when a qualified helper has prepared it for your system.

When to escalate immediately
- Security software is disabled or repeatedly blocked.
- New suspicious tasks or processes reappear after reboot.
- You see ransomware behavior, unknown remote access, credential-theft alerts or multiple unrelated detections.
- You cannot distinguish a suspicious file from a legitimate Windows component.
Does its presence mean your passwords were stolen?
No. The documented Malwarebytes behavior establishes adware/PUP activity, browser changes, sponsored results, shortcuts and scheduled-task persistence; it does not by itself establish password theft or data exfiltration. If you entered banking or other sensitive credentials while the unwanted browser was active, or another type of malware is found, change those passwords from a known-clean device and enable multifactor authentication where available.
Prevent another unwanted browser installation
- Download applications from the developer’s official site or a trusted store.
- Read every installer page and decline optional browsers, extensions and “recommended” offers.
- Keep Windows, your browser and security software updated.
- Leave reputable real-time protection enabled.
- Review browser extensions, startup pages and default-app associations after installing bundled software.
- Consider a reputable browser-protection extension for blocking malicious or unwanted web content, but remember that browser protection does not remove an installed Windows program or scheduled task. Malwarebytes presents its Browser Guard at malwarebytes.com/browserguard.
Removal checklist
- Malwarebytes (or another reputable security product) completed an updated scan.
- Confirmed detections were quarantined and Windows was restarted if requested.
- WebNavigatorBrowser no longer launches and its shortcuts are gone.
- No Task Scheduler action points to its executable.
- Your preferred default browser, search engine, startup pages and extensions are restored.
- A second scan is clean if symptoms persisted.
