In 2019, Google Search featured a playful Friends Easter egg for Ross Geller. Searching for “Friends Ross” reportedly displayed a clickable couch that repeatedly pivoted the results page, eventually splitting in two. The animation also included sound, but the original report does not confirm that the feature still works today.

What happened when you searched for “Friends Ross”?

Chrome Unboxed reported on September 20, 2019, that Google had added character-specific Search animations to mark the 25th anniversary of Friends. For Ross, the result included his familiar couch.

Clicking the couch made the Search screen pivot. Each click triggered another movement until the couch finally broke into two pieces. The report described the effect as an interactive animation rather than a conventional Search result or a separate application.

Did the Ross Easter egg have sound?

Yes. The 2019 report said the Friends animations included sound and advised users to turn their audio on. If you try the search and see no audio, your device, browser tab or system volume may be muted—but the historical report does not document every playback condition.

Were there Easter eggs for the other Friends characters?

The same report described customized clickable animations for the other principal Friends characters. Ross’s version was the couch gag: repeated clicks made the screen pivot and ended with the couch splitting apart.

Does the Ross couch Easter egg still work?

That has not been established by the available source. Chrome Unboxed’s report is dated September 20, 2019, and documents what Google Search showed around the show’s 25th anniversary. It does not verify that Google still serves the animation now.

You can still test it by searching Google for Friends Ross, but treat any result as a current availability check, not a guaranteed feature. Google regularly retires or changes Search Easter eggs, and the historical report provides no promise of continued access.

How to try it

  1. Open Google Search on a desktop or mobile browser.
  2. Search for Friends Ross.
  3. Look for a Ross-related interactive element in the results.
  4. If a couch appears, click it and keep your audio enabled to experience the reported animation.

If no couch or animation appears, that does not contradict the 2019 account; it may simply mean the Easter egg is no longer active, is unavailable in your region or account, or is not being served in your browser.
