Yes, major organizations use WordPress—but usually for a defined property, publishing operation, or enterprise platform rather than every page on the corporate domain. Official WordPress.org and WordPress VIP materials document the organizations below. They do not, however, verify 40 separate current deployments or prove that each company’s primary homepage runs on WordPress.

What the public evidence actually confirms

The strongest public evidence comes from three sources: WordPress.org’s enterprise showcase, WordPress VIP’s customer and enterprise pages, and a WordPress.org case study about News Corp Australia. A logo or customer listing establishes an association with WordPress, but not necessarily the exact site, subdomain, newsroom, or application involved.

WordPress VIP describes enterprise WordPress this way: “WordPress in the enterprise takes many forms. It can serve as the entire backbone or a key component of your digital customer experience.” That distinction is essential when evaluating big-brand claims.

The clearest portfolio-scale example: News Corp Australia

A 2020 WordPress.org case study describes News Corp Australia migrating 90+ brands to WordPress as a site-production platform. It says the organization later hosted 40+ sites on WordPress, using a vetted core plugin suite, a base theme, and more than 50 custom plugins integrated with broader systems.

Those figures are historical statements from the 2020 case study, not a current inventory. They demonstrate how a large publisher can standardize many properties on one governed platform without implying that every News Corp site worldwide shares the same implementation.

Why enterprises choose different WordPress setups

WordPress as the content backbone

An organization may use WordPress as the central system for authoring, editorial workflows, structured content, localization, and publishing, while other services handle commerce, identity, search, or applications.

WordPress as one component

A brand may use WordPress for a newsroom, campaign site, investor-relations section, documentation hub, or regional microsite while its primary application runs on another platform.

Self-managed WordPress versus managed enterprise hosting

Self-managed WordPress offers control over hosting and software choices but leaves updates, security operations, scaling, and support to the organization or its agency. A managed platform such as WordPress VIP positions its service around hosting, security, scalability, and analytics. Those are vendor-positioned benefits, so evaluate them against the organization’s own requirements.

How to verify a claim about a corporate site

  1. Identify the exact property. Ask whether the claim concerns the homepage, a blog, a newsroom, a campaign microsite, or an internal publishing platform.
  2. Find a dated first-party source. Prefer a company engineering post, a current vendor case study, or an official customer page over an undated listicle.
  3. Separate platform from ownership. A WordPress VIP customer may use VIP for one digital experience while operating unrelated properties elsewhere.
  4. Check the date and scope. Migrations, rebrands, acquisitions, and architecture changes can make an older case study unsuitable evidence of the current site.
  5. Treat performance numbers as attributed claims. For example, WordPress VIP says it served 22 billion requests with 100% uptime on U.S. election night 2024; that is the vendor’s claim, not an independent audit presented here.

Numbers that need careful attribution

  • WordPress VIP says it is trusted by more than 700 enterprises (page accessed September 30, 2026). The page does not date that count.
  • WordPress VIP’s 2023 workbook said WordPress ran 43% of the web. This is a historical vendor-published figure, not a current market-share measurement.
  • The News Corp Australia counts—90+ brands, 40+ sites, and more than 50 custom plugins—come from a 2020 case study.
  • The 33% donation increase belongs to Automattic’s Hong Kong Free Press customer story dated August 4, 2026.

Why there are not 40 verified entries here

The available official material documents the 23 names in the table, but it does not substantiate a complete list of 40 distinct, current brand deployments. A longer third-party roundup may contain additional leads, yet its claims about particular properties, plugins, hosting arrangements, and technologies are not independently confirmed by the cited official sources. Presenting those names as equally verified would overstate the evidence.

Use the table as a starting point, not as proof that an entire corporate web estate runs on WordPress. The reliable question is always: which property uses WordPress, in what role, and according to which dated source?
