Cloudflare Error 1005 is not a browser bug. It means the website owner has blocked the Autonomous System Number (ASN) used by your internet connection. You cannot remove that server-side rule yourself. Save a screenshot showing the error, Ray ID and timestamp, then send it to the website owner or support team. They must review the event and change the access policy if your network should be allowed.
What Error 1005 means
Cloudflare labels this page “Access Denied: Autonomous System Number (ASN) banned.” An ASN identifies a network at the routing level, such as an internet service provider, hosting company, mobile carrier or other network operator. The site has an access rule that rejects requests associated with that ASN.
This is different from a damaged cookie, an outdated browser or a bad local setting. Your browser can display the block, but it cannot edit the website’s Cloudflare configuration. Cloudflare’s Error 1005 guidance, updated April 23, 2026, directs visitors to contact the site owner. The owner controls the rule and can confirm whether it is still intended.

What to do as a visitor
- Record the exact address. Copy the complete URL, including the path, and note the date and time. Keep the time in UTC if the page displays it; otherwise record your local timezone.
- Capture the error page. Include the Error 1005 label, the site address, the Ray ID, client IP (if shown), timestamp and any other diagnostic text. Do not crop away the identifying details.
- Contact the site owner. Use the site’s support form, support email or administrator contact. State that Cloudflare reports Error 1005 and that you believe your network ASN may have been blocked.
- Attach the screenshot and details. Send the Ray ID or client IP, exact URL, timestamp and the network you were using (for example, home broadband, office network or mobile data). Ask the owner to investigate the event rather than asking for a browser reset.
- Wait for the owner’s review. Only the owner can decide whether to keep, narrow or remove the ASN restriction. Do not assume that a lack of an immediate reply means the rule has changed.
Clearing cookies, reinstalling the browser or switching devices does not remove an ASN-level restriction. Those actions may help with unrelated errors, but Cloudflare’s documented remedy for 1005 is owner investigation.
How a website owner investigates Error 1005
If you operate the affected site, ask the visitor for the complete screenshot and the time of the failure. Then follow this workflow in Cloudflare:
- Open Security > Events. Search for the event using the Ray ID or client IP from the error page.
- Align the time. Cloudflare records event times in UTC. Convert the visitor’s reported time to UTC before searching, or convert the displayed UTC time to the timezone used by your support process.
- Inspect the matching request. Confirm the request, source network and rule that produced the denial. Check whether the ASN restriction is intentional and still required.
- Review IP Access Rules. If legitimate traffic should be admitted, adjust the rule so the appropriate ASN or narrower set of addresses is allowed. Apply the least-permissive change that solves the legitimate access need.
- Retest and document. Ask the visitor to retry the same URL, preferably at a recorded time, and keep a note of the policy change and its reason.
An allow rule is a security decision, not an automatic response to every complaint. Verify the visitor and the event first. If the block protects an administrative endpoint, paid content or a known abusive network, consider a narrower exception instead of allowing an entire ASN.
Why common “fixes” do not solve 1005
Clearing cookies and cache
Cookies and cached files live in the browser. Error 1005 is generated because the site’s server-side policy rejects the network identity associated with the request, so deleting local data does not change the policy.
Changing browsers or devices
A second browser or phone on the same internet connection normally uses the same network ASN. The site can therefore apply the same rule. A different device is useful only for checking whether the symptom is local; it is not an owner-side repair.

Using a VPN or proxy
Cloudflare’s visitor guidance does not recommend a VPN as the fix. Routing around a site’s access policy may violate the site’s rules, and the VPN’s ASN could also be blocked. Ask the owner to review the restriction instead of treating a new network identity as a supported resolution.
Running antivirus scans
Security scans belong to Cloudflare’s separate Error 1012 guidance, not Error 1005. Do not apply an Error 1012 remedy to a page that clearly identifies an ASN ban.

The screenshot is most helpful when the owner can match it to a single event. Use your browser’s built-in screenshot command or operating-system capture tool and include the complete error panel. If the page is longer than the visible window, capture the section containing the code and diagnostic identifiers rather than producing an unreadable full-page image.
- Keep the address bar visible when possible so the owner can verify the affected URL.
- Include the Ray ID and timestamp exactly as displayed.
- Record whether you were on home broadband, a corporate network, public Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- If the page appears different after a refresh, save both versions and note the times.
- Redact unrelated personal information before forwarding the image, but leave the diagnostic fields intact.
If you need a repeatable capture for a support ticket or monitoring job, an automated screenshot service can document the response. It does not change the owner’s ASN rule or guarantee access to a blocked page.

Its API accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG or WebP, and it can also return a PDF. The service can wait for a selector, delay or network idle, capture a full page, and use custom headers, cookies, user agents, timezone or geolocation when you are authorized to provide them. Troubleshooting branches
The page has no Ray ID
Send the screenshot anyway, along with the exact URL and time. The owner can search Security > Events using the client IP or the time window. Ask the owner which identifier is available in their logs.
The owner cannot find the event
Check the UTC conversion, confirm that the screenshot came from the same URL, and ask whether another Cloudflare account, zone or security product handled the request. A changed rule may also mean the original event has aged out of the visible search range.

That pattern is consistent with an ASN-specific restriction. Tell the owner which networks work and which one fails, but do not infer that the working network should be permanently used as a workaround. The owner should validate the policy and choose the correct scope.

The error number changes
Stop using the 1005 procedure and record the new code. Cloudflare treats each 1xxx error separately; the cause and owner action may be different.
The owner says no ASN was banned
Send the complete page, including the timestamp and Ray ID, and ask the owner to check the relevant zone and account. Error 1005 specifically identifies an ASN-ban response, but a stale screenshot, a different hostname or a recently changed rule can lead to confusion.

Cloudflare’s error index notes that these 1xxx numbers appear in the HTML response body and are not the same thing as an HTTP status code in the response-status header. Always read the displayed number before choosing a remedy.
Privacy and security when reporting the block
- Send the screenshot only to the site’s verified support or security contact.
- Do not publish a client IP, session token, cookie or internal URL in a public forum.
- When using an automated capture service, use a public test URL or a least-privilege API key and avoid private credentials.
- Ask the owner to explain any requested allow-list change, especially if it would permit an entire provider ASN.
FAQ
Is Error 1005 an HTTP 1005 status code?
No. It is a Cloudflare 1xxx error label shown in the response body, not a standard HTTP status code returned in the response-status header.
What is an ASN in practical terms?
It is the routing-level identity assigned to a network operator. Many individual addresses can belong to one ASN, which is why an owner rule can affect multiple customers at once.

Can the website owner allow just my address?
The owner decides the scope of any exception. They can assess whether a narrower rule is appropriate instead of allowing an entire ASN; the correct choice depends on the site’s security policy.
Will the block disappear on its own?
There is no visitor-side timer or guaranteed automatic removal described for Error 1005. Treat the restriction as active until the owner confirms a policy change or a subsequent request succeeds.

What if the site is mine but I cannot access the dashboard?
Use another authorized administrator or Cloudflare account contact to review Security > Events and IP Access Rules. The visitor’s screenshot, Ray ID and UTC-aligned time provide the starting evidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a mobile carrier and home ISP have different ASN results for the same site?
Yes. They are different networks, so an owner’s ASN rule can reject one while allowing the other. Report both results to the owner rather than treating the working connection as a permanent fix.
Should I keep refreshing an Error 1005 page?
No. Repeated refreshes add little evidence. Save one complete screenshot and the exact time, then let the site owner investigate the matching event.
