You can create and display a QR code in WordPress with a plugin. Kaya QR Code Generator offers three ways to add one: a Gutenberg block, a shortcode, or a widget. You can configure a code for a URL or other content, adjust its appearance, and download the generated image for use outside your site.
Choose a way to add the QR code
Kaya QR Code Generator documents three insertion options. Choose based on where you want the code to appear and how you prefer to edit it.
- Gutenberg block: Configure the QR code directly in the block editor.
- Shortcode: Generate shortcode text, then insert it into a post or page using a Shortcode block or the content editor.
- Widget: Place the code in a widget area supported by your theme.

Install the plugin and add a code
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New.
- Search for Kaya QR Code Generator, select Install, then Activate.
- Open the post, page, or widget area where the code should appear. Add the Kaya QR Code block, use the plugin’s shortcode generator, or add its widget.
- Set the content the code should encode. The listing describes support for text, URLs, and other content, including the current page URL.
- Adjust any options you need, such as size, error correction, colors, alignment, title, alternative text, clickable links, or a download button.
- Preview the result and publish or update the content. Scan the displayed code with a phone to confirm it leads to the intended destination.
Insert a shortcode correctly
The shortcode generator builds shortcode text from the options you enter; those fields do not automatically save as post custom fields or insert a code into the page. Copy the generated shortcode and paste it into your content, or use the Kaya block to configure the code directly in the editor. Use a downloaded QR image outside WordPress
Kaya’s listing says its generated QR image can be downloaded and used elsewhere. The shortcode itself is for WordPress content and cannot be inserted directly into a PDF or email; use the downloaded image for those materials instead. If you want to put a code on a physical item, QR code label stickers are one optional way to do that—no labels, printer, or other hardware are needed to add a code to a WordPress page.

Check the plugin’s privacy and compatibility details
Kaya Studio says: “No external service, API or third-party dependency is required.” Its listing explains that the QR-generation library is included and that the plugin does not connect to third-party services to generate a code. This statement applies to Kaya QR Code Generator; it should not be assumed to describe other QR plugins.
WordPress block-development guidance explains that blocks are typically bundled in plugins and registered on both the server and client; it recommends dual registration when server-side features are involved.
