You can add a presentation to WordPress as an image slideshow, a hosted slide deck, or an embedded PowerPoint or Google Slides file. For a simple sequence of pictures, use WordPress’s Slideshow block. For a deck that visitors can navigate, host it on a service such as Speaker Deck or OneDrive and embed it with a supported block or HTML-capable editor. The right choice depends on your source file, how interactive it needs to be, and whether it can be shared publicly.
Choose the presentation method that fits your deck
| Method | What visitors see | Where the content is hosted | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slideshow block | A sequence of images | WordPress media | A simple visual slideshow made from images |
| Generic Embed block | Third-party content in an embedded viewer, if supported | The service that hosts the presentation | A presentation with a supported share URL |
| Speaker Deck block | A navigable presentation | Speaker Deck | A deck uploaded to Speaker Deck and shared publicly |
| PowerPoint embed | An embedded presentation viewer | OneDrive | A PowerPoint file shared through PowerPoint for the web |
| Google Slides embed | A presentation hosted by Google | Google Slides | A deck created or maintained in Google Slides |
An external embed is not an upload to WordPress: the page links to content hosted by another service. Its display therefore depends on the provider, its sharing permissions, and continued availability. WordPress describes its Embed block as a way to add third-party content to a post or page in its Embed block documentation.
Create an image slideshow with the WordPress Slideshow block
Use this method when your slides are images and you do not need the controls or features of a full presentation viewer. WordPress.com documents the Slideshow block as displaying multiple images sequentially; Jetpack can make the block available on a site. See the WordPress.com Slideshow block guide.
- Open the page, post, or template where the slideshow should appear in the WordPress editor.
- Open the block inserter, search for “Slideshow,” and add the Slideshow block.
- Add the images in the order you want visitors to see them.
- Preview the page at desktop and mobile widths, then publish or update it.
The images are part of your WordPress content, so replace or reorder them in the editor when the slideshow changes. This approach is less suitable if you need slide-specific notes, animations, or a hosted deck that other people update.

Embed a presentation with the generic Embed block
Use a URL-based embed when the presentation service is supported by WordPress. The provider must allow sharing or embedding, and the presentation’s permissions must let your intended visitors view it.
- Open the presentation’s sharing controls and copy its share URL.
- In the WordPress editor, add an Embed block, or type
/embedto find it. - Paste the URL and select Embed.
- Preview the result while logged out or in a private browser window to check that the public-facing page can load it.
If WordPress does not recognize the URL, do not assume that any URL or iframe will work in every installation. Use the presentation provider’s documented embed code in a Custom HTML block if your editor and site permissions allow it, or choose a maintained plugin. WordPress explains URL-based embedding in its Embeds documentation.

Embed a Speaker Deck presentation
Speaker Deck provides a dedicated WordPress block. You need a Speaker Deck account to upload your own slides, and the presentation needs to be public to embed it. WordPress’s instructions are in its Speaker Deck embed documentation.
- Upload the presentation to Speaker Deck and make it public.
- Copy the presentation’s public URL.
- In WordPress, add the Speaker Deck block and paste the URL.
- Preview the page to confirm the deck loads and its controls are usable.
Because the deck remains hosted on Speaker Deck, updates made there can appear in the embed without replacing an image sequence in WordPress. The trade-off is that visitors rely on the external service and the deck’s public-sharing setting.

Embed a PowerPoint presentation from OneDrive
Microsoft’s documented route is to save the presentation to OneDrive, open it in PowerPoint for the web, and generate embed code. You then need a WordPress editor that permits HTML embeds. Microsoft describes the process in its PowerPoint presentation embed instructions.
- Save the PowerPoint presentation to OneDrive.
- Open it in PowerPoint for the web.
- Select Share → Embed this Presentation.
- Copy the iframe embed code Microsoft provides.
- In WordPress, add a Custom HTML block in the block editor (or use another HTML-capable editor), then paste the code.
- Preview the page and check the viewer at mobile width before publishing.
If your WordPress role or site configuration strips or blocks iframe markup, this method may not be available to you. Use a supported embed URL or a suitable plugin instead. Confirm that the OneDrive sharing settings allow the people who need the presentation to view it.

Use Google Slides
Google describes Slides as an online app for creating, formatting, and collaborating on presentations. Its help page explains the product, but the available embed options and sharing controls depend on the presentation and Google account settings; check Google’s current instructions for the specific deck before embedding it. See Google Slides help.
In WordPress, use a supported Embed block if the presentation’s share URL is recognized. If you are given iframe code instead, add it through a Custom HTML block only if your editor and site permit it. Test the published page as a visitor: a working embed for the owner may still be inaccessible to people without the right Google sharing permission.

When a plugin makes sense
A plugin can help when WordPress does not provide a suitable block for your presentation format, or you need a particular viewer or shortcode workflow. The WordPress.org directory lists options including HTML5 Slideshow Presentations, Presenter, Responsive Slide, and Presentation Block; check each listing’s current compatibility details before installing. The WordPress.org presentations directory is the place to review the current options.
EasyEMBED advertises shortcode-based embedding for files and services including PDF, Google Slides, and PowerPoint, with responsive and fullscreen options. Check its current feature and compatibility details on the EasyEMBED plugin page. A plugin adds another component to maintain, so prefer a built-in block when it already does what you need.
Quick Recap
Check the finished presentation before publishing
- Open the page on a phone as well as a desktop; make sure the viewer fits the available width and its controls are usable.
- Test access as a visitor who is not signed in to the hosting service. Adjust sharing permissions if the content is intended to be public.
- Check the deck after changing it at its host. External embeds can reflect updates there, while WordPress-hosted slideshow images need to be updated in the editor.
- Make sure the presentation still loads after publishing, not only in the editor preview.
