In your WordPress dashboard, go to Media → Library, find the image, and copy its File URL. That is the direct address of the image file—not the URL of its attachment page.

Copy an image URL from the Media Library

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard and open Media → Library.

  2. Search or filter the library to find the image.

  3. In grid view, select the image thumbnail. In the Attachment Details dialog, find File URL and select Copy URL to clipboard. In list view, use the image row’s Copy URL to clipboard action.

  4. Paste the copied address where you need to use it. WordPress describes the list-view action as copying the image’s absolute URL. WordPress Media Library documentation

Find the URL of a newly uploaded image

You can upload an image from Media → Add New, or upload it while editing a post or page. After upload, the upload screen provides a Copy URL to clipboard control. You can also find the uploaded file later in the Media Library. WordPress Add New Media documentation

File URL or attachment-page permalink?

On the Edit Media page, WordPress distinguishes the image file’s File URL from the attachment’s Permalink. The File URL opens the media file itself. The Permalink opens a page on your WordPress site for that attachment. Use the file URL when you need the image address; use the permalink when you want a page on your site. There is a related setting in the Classic Editor for what happens when a visitor clicks an image inserted into content. Media File links to the full-size image, Attachment Page links to its attachment page, Custom URL points to another destination, and None leaves the image unlinked. These choices affect the image link in the post or page; they are separate from copying the file URL in the Media Library. WordPress documentation on inserting images

Get the original image URL with the REST API

For a programmatic lookup, a WordPress REST API media response includes source_url, the URL of the original attachment file. For a one-off copy, the dashboard’s Media Library control is simpler. WordPress REST API Media reference

When an image is hosted on another site

The Block Editor can insert an image from a URL. In that case, the image remains dependent on the remote file: it may stop displaying if the original is moved, deleted, or no longer shared. The editor offers an option to upload a copy to your Media Library. WordPress Image block documentation
