Choose the WordPress.com plan that adds the feature you actually need: Free for a basic hosted site, Personal for a custom domain and plugins, Premium for expanded design and promotion tools, Business for backups and developer access, and Commerce for a WooCommerce store. WordPress.com pricing varies by country and billing term, so compare the current price for your region on the official plans page.

WordPress.com plans at a glance

This comparison is for WordPress.com’s hosted plans, where hosting is included. It is not a comparison of self-hosted WordPress.org hosting providers, which have different costs and maintenance responsibilities.

Plan Best fit What sets it apart
Free A basic blog, portfolio, or site while you validate an idea Hosting, unlimited posts and pages, basic traffic stats, and 1 GB of media storage; no plugin installation.
Personal A personal site or blog needing its own domain and plugins Custom primary domain, a free first-year domain with annual billing, 6 GB storage, and plugin installation. Some plugins are restricted.
Premium A site needing more design, promotion, or payment options Personal features plus Google Analytics, SEO controls, monetization, payment collection, additional blocks, and 13 GB storage.
Business A professional site needing recovery options or developer workflows Daily backups for eligible sites, 50 GB storage, and tools including SFTP, WP-CLI, database access, and staging.
Commerce A store selling products or services online Business features plus WooCommerce-based tools for products, orders, payments, shipping, tax, marketing, and store management.

These storage allowances are WordPress.com plan specifications, not independent measurements. The current storage guide lists 1 GB for Free, 6 GB for Personal, 13 GB for Premium, and 50 GB for Business and Commerce; some legacy subscriptions have different arrangements. See the WordPress.com storage guide for details.

Which plan should you choose?

Choose Free for a basic hosted site

Free is a reasonable starting point for a simple blog, portfolio, or early-stage idea if a WordPress.com address and the included basic features are enough. Move up when a concrete need—such as a custom primary domain, plugin, or additional capability—becomes a blocker.

Choose Personal for a custom domain or plugins

Personal is the entry point if you want a custom primary domain or plugin installation. Annual billing includes a free first-year domain, but verify that the plugin you depend on is permitted before subscribing.

Choose Premium for design, analytics, promotion, or payments

Premium adds features such as Google Analytics, SEO controls, monetization, payment collection, and additional blocks. It can suit a site that needs more than a basic presence but does not need the developer tools and backup features associated with Business.

Choose Business for backups and developer access

Business is the relevant step if you need advanced customization tools such as SFTP, WP-CLI, database access, or staging, or want automated backups for an eligible site. WordPress.com says backups run at least every 24 hours, and eligible sites can restore from backups in the preceding six months. If a Business or Commerce plan is removed, backups are retained for 30 days. See the backup and restore guide for eligibility and restore details.

Choose Commerce for a WooCommerce store

Commerce is designed for a store that needs WooCommerce and integrated selling tools for products, orders, payments, shipping, tax, and store management. If you only need to collect payments rather than run a full online store, compare the payment features on lower plans and any applicable transaction fees before choosing Commerce.

Check plugin compatibility before upgrading

Plugin installation is available on WordPress.com’s paid plans—Personal, Premium, Business, and Commerce—but not Free. WordPress.com notes that a select few plugins are not permitted, so confirm that any essential plugin is compatible before you pay. Its plugin support guide explains how plugin installation works.

Compare the right price and billing term

WordPress.com offers monthly and yearly billing, and prices vary by country. There is no single universal price that applies to every reader. Open the plans page, select your country or local currency, and compare plans using the same billing term. If you are moving from a legacy subscription, check its terms separately because features and storage may differ.

WordPress.com is not the same as self-hosted WordPress

All five plans above are WordPress.com hosted plans. WordPress.com includes hosting; its Business plan provides advanced customization without requiring you to manage hosting or server maintenance. If by “WordPress” you mean the self-hosted WordPress.org software, you are choosing among hosting providers and taking on a different set of maintenance and cost decisions. That is a separate comparison, not another tier in this plan table.
