There is no single best WordPress contact-form plugin. The right choice depends on whether you need a basic message form, stored and searchable entries, conditional or multi-page workflows, payments, calculations, integrations, or views that publish submitted data. This 2026 shortlist compares five widely covered options against those requirements, with vendor pricing checked on September 30, 2026. Displayed prices are snapshots: introductory offers can expire, renewals may be higher, and tax is added at checkout where applicable.

How to choose a WordPress form plugin

Start with the job rather than the brand. A brochure site may need only fields, spam protection and email delivery. A membership, service or ecommerce site may also need entry storage, file uploads, conditional questions, multiple steps, payment collection or connections to other services.

  • Building and maintenance: Check whether the editor, templates and field settings suit the people who will maintain forms.
  • Free-tier limits: Confirm that the free version includes every essential field, notification and anti-spam feature; “free plugin” does not mean every important capability is free.
  • Entry management: Determine whether submissions are stored in WordPress and can be searched, exported or managed from the dashboard.
  • Workflow features: Conditional logic, multi-page or multi-step forms, repeaters and file uploads matter for longer application and intake processes.
  • Integrations and payments: Check the exact plan and add-on required for gateways, email marketing, CRM or automation connections.
  • License economics: Compare permitted sites and renewal price, not just the first-year headline offer.

Five plugins at a glance

Plugin Best fit Key capabilities and limitations Price snapshot (checked Sept. 30, 2026)
WPForms Beginner-friendly forms with managed entries Templates and entry management are described on the official plan page; integrations and payment features vary by tier. Requires a self-hosted WordPress site. Basic displayed at $49.50/year (normally $99); Plus $99.50/year (normally $199). Vendor says renewals are at full price; USD, tax excluded until checkout.
Gravity Forms Sites needing a tiered, add-on-based platform Capabilities and add-ons differ by license, making the plan comparison essential. Basic $59/year for one site; Pro $159/year for three sites; Elite $259/year for unlimited sites.
Formidable Forms Advanced workflows, calculators and data displays Basic lists conditional logic, file uploads, multi-page forms and repeaters. Higher tiers add views, calculators, payments and broader integrations. Basic displayed at $39.50/year (normally $79); introductory pricing renews at full price.
Fluent Forms Multi-step forms with annual or lifetime licensing Official feature list includes drag-and-drop building, templates, multiple field types, multi-step forms, uploads and spam protection. Single-site annual license displayed at $63/year (normally $79); agency, unlimited and lifetime options are also listed. Verify renewal terms at checkout.
Contact Form 7 A simple/free-oriented shortlist candidate Included because current comparison roundups identify it among common free or freemium choices. No current official product or pricing page was published, so confirm current features, storage, extensions and update status before relying on it. Not stated in the available official-source material.

1. WPForms: easiest route to managed entries

WPForms is the strongest fit when nontechnical editors need to create forms from templates and manage submissions in the WordPress dashboard. Its official plan information specifically includes entry management, while integrations and payment features are assigned by plan.

Choose it when

  • You want a visual builder and templates rather than assembling every field manually.
  • Keeping submitted entries available for dashboard management is important.
  • You are willing to move to a higher tier for required integrations or payments.

Watch the plan boundary

The displayed Basic and Plus figures are introductory annual prices, not guaranteed renewal prices. WPForms says renewals occur at full price. Confirm the renewal amount, included integrations and site allowance before purchase. The product is intended for a self-hosted WordPress site.

2. Gravity Forms: predictable tiers for add-on-heavy projects

Gravity Forms uses licenses and add-ons to separate capabilities. That structure can work well for agencies and organizations that know which integrations they need, but the cheapest license is not automatically the right one.

Current license levels

License Sites Annual price
Basic 1 $59/year
Pro 3 $159/year
Elite Unlimited $259/year

These are the amounts displayed on Gravity Forms’ official pricing page on September 30, 2026. Selected add-ons vary by tier, so map each required integration or payment gateway to the license before comparing totals.

3. Formidable Forms: strongest match for calculations and displaying submissions

Formidable Forms is aimed at forms that do more than collect an email. Its Basic feature list includes conditional logic, file uploads, multi-page forms and repeaters. Higher plans add dynamic views, calculators, payments and wider integrations, making the tier choice central to the decision.

Choose it when

  • A questionnaire needs branching questions or multiple pages.
  • You need calculators or repeatable groups of fields.
  • Submitted data must be turned into front-end views rather than remaining only in an inbox.

The pricing page displayed Basic at $39.50/year against a stated normal price of $79 and notes that introductory prices renew at full price. Verify the live checkout amount and the plan containing each required view, payment connection or integration.

4. Fluent Forms: flexible licensing for multi-step forms

Fluent Forms’ official feature list covers drag-and-drop construction, templates, varied input fields, multi-step forms, uploads and spam protection. It offers annual licenses alongside agency, unlimited and lifetime choices, which can matter when one organization manages many sites.

Choose it when

  • You need a visual builder with multi-step or upload-enabled forms.
  • You are comparing an annual commitment with a lifetime license.
  • Built-in spam protection is a baseline requirement.

A single-site annual offer was displayed at $63/year against $79 on September 30, 2026. Because the page also presents other license types and promotional pricing, check the current checkout and renewal terms for the exact license you need.

5. Contact Form 7: a lightweight candidate that needs verification

Contact Form 7 appears in current comparison roundups as a common free or freemium choice, which is why it remains a reasonable fifth candidate for a shortlist focused on simple contact forms. However, no current official product or pricing page was published. Do not assume that its current submission storage, conditional logic, integrations, spam controls or maintenance status match the paid builders above; verify those points on the plugin’s current official listing before deployment.

Who should consider it

  • Sites evaluating a minimal contact form and prepared to verify add-ons and administration needs themselves.
  • Teams comfortable checking whether required storage, notifications and integrations come from the core plugin or extensions.

Which plugin should you pick?

Begin with WPForms if you want templates and dashboard entry management. Consider Contact Form 7 only after confirming that its current core and extension setup covers your operational requirements.

For stored submissions and a beginner-friendly workflow

WPForms is the clearest fit in this comparison because entry management is explicitly included in its plan information. Check the tier before assuming a particular integration is included.

For branching, multi-page or calculator workflows

Formidable Forms lists these capabilities across its plans, with calculators and data views reserved for higher tiers. Fluent Forms is another candidate when multi-step forms and uploads are the priority.

For agencies or several WordPress sites

Compare site allowances directly: Gravity Forms publishes one-, three- and unlimited-site tiers, while Fluent Forms lists agency and unlimited options. A lower first-year price can still cost more if the license covers too few sites or renews at a higher rate.

For payments and integrations

Do not choose from the plugin name alone. WPForms, Gravity Forms and Formidable Forms place payment or integration capabilities at particular tiers or add-ons; identify the exact gateway or service, then confirm its inclusion and renewal cost.

A pre-purchase checklist

  1. List every field type, upload, conditional rule and page in the form.
  2. Decide whether entries must be stored and managed inside WordPress.
  3. Name the exact integrations, payment gateways or data views required.
  4. Check the free version or chosen paid tier for those functions, including add-ons.
  5. Count production, staging and client sites against the license allowance.
  6. Record the displayed introductory price and the renewal price shown at checkout.
  7. Test notification delivery, spam protection and entry handling on a staging site before launch.
