There is no neutral, independently measured ranking of the 20 most influential WordPress companies in 2026. The useful answer is a curated map of 20 companies, brands and adjacent ecosystem participants whose roles are documented by WordPress.org, company materials or contribution records. They are grouped by what they do—not ranked from first to twentieth.
How to read this list
“Influence” means the ability to shape a major layer of the WordPress ecosystem: hosting, publishing, commerce, design, SEO, plugins, developer tooling, agency work or project support. A company-reported customer or download figure is not directly comparable with a partner listing, a pledge to contribute code or a product’s installation count.
Some entries are products or brands owned by a larger company. They are included because WordPress users encounter them as distinct services. WordPress.org itself is the open-source project, licensed under GPLv2 or later; it is not interchangeable with WordPress.com, Automattic or any hosting provider.

Publishing, hosting and access to WordPress
Automattic, WordPress.com and Jetpack
Automattic operates across several layers rather than selling one narrowly defined WordPress service. Its portfolio describes publishing, commerce, messaging, cloud services, and plugins and themes. That breadth gives it influence both through individual products and through the connections between them.

WordPress.com is the hosted-publishing service in that portfolio. It should be evaluated as a managed service, not as the WordPress.org project itself. Jetpack is a separate WordPress-related software brand. WordPress.org named both Jetpack and WordPress.com among its five Global Partners for the first half of 2026, indicating project-event support and visibility rather than a universal ranking of business importance.
Bluehost, Hostinger, Kinsta and SiteGround
Hosting companies determine how users obtain server space, domains, managed WordPress environments and related operational services. WordPress.org listed Bluehost and Hostinger as first-half 2026 Global Partners. Hostinger, Kinsta and SiteGround also appear in the Five for the Future pledge directory. Those records demonstrate participation in specific WordPress initiatives; they do not establish that one host is faster, safer or larger than another.
WP Engine
WP Engine combines WordPress hosting with commerce solutions and developer products, including Local and Advanced Custom Fields. A company PDF published in 2025 reports 1.5 million customers in more than 150 countries. WP Engine says that figure relates to its broader company and suite, so it should not be read as a count for one hosting plan or compared directly with plugin downloads.
Newfold Digital and the Bluehost transaction notice
Bluehost reported in January 2026 that its parent, Newfold Digital, had entered a definitive agreement to acquire Yoast. That announcement documents an agreement, not a completed acquisition. Ownership and product-portfolio descriptions should therefore be checked against a current closing announcement before being treated as settled facts.

Commerce and visual site building
WooCommerce
WooCommerce describes itself as commerce software built on WordPress. It launched in 2011 and was acquired by Automattic in 2015, according to WooCommerce’s company history. Its influence comes from providing a commerce layer and an extension marketplace; it is not a hosting company. A store owner can therefore use WooCommerce while choosing hosting from a different provider.
Elementor
Elementor describes its product as a WordPress website builder. Its about page reports that Elementor powers more than 22 million sites and 13% of the web. Those are Elementor’s own figures, accessed in 2026, rather than independently audited measurements. They indicate the scale Elementor claims for its builder but should not be used as a like-for-like market-share comparison with hosting customers or plugin downloads.
SEO and the commercial plugin layer
Yoast
Yoast is established in the sources as an SEO plugin company. Its company page reports more than 200 million downloads and more than 25,000 five-star reviews. Both figures are company-reported and describe different things: cumulative downloads and review counts, not active installations, revenue or search-performance outcomes.
Awesome Motive and its brands
Awesome Motive appears in the Five for the Future directory as a WordPress product company. The directory lists WPForms, OptinMonster, MonsterInsights and AIOSEO among its brands. Treat those names as related products within one portfolio rather than four independent corporations when assessing ownership, support or strategic influence.

Developer tools and agency work
Local and Advanced Custom Fields
Local and Advanced Custom Fields illustrate why WordPress influence is not limited to public-facing websites. WP Engine’s company material identifies both as part of its developer-tool offering. Local addresses local development workflows, while Advanced Custom Fields is a tool used to extend WordPress content structures. Their importance is strongest for developers and agencies building and maintaining sites, not for readers choosing a basic hosted blog.
10up
10up is an agency and development company listed in the Five for the Future directory. Agency influence is expressed through implementation work, technical decisions and contributions to the wider project rather than through a single mass-market plugin or hosting plan.
What the published scale figures actually show
The following numbers come from the named companies’ own materials. They are useful signals of stated reach, but the units are different and cannot produce a defensible ranking.
| Publisher and date | Reported figure | What it measures | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automattic, April 2026 | Approximately 43% of all websites; more than 60% of known CMS market | WordPress market presence | Automattic’s figures, not an independent measurement |
| Automattic, April 2026 | More than 61,000 official-directory plugins; more than 90,000 across official and premium/independent sources | Plugin ecosystem size | Company-reported counts using different source pools |
| Automattic, April 2026 | More than 1,200 WooCommerce extensions | Commerce extension ecosystem | Company-reported figure |
| Elementor, company about page accessed 2026 | More than 22 million sites; 13% of the web | Reported builder adoption | Elementor’s own figures, not independently audited |
| Yoast, company page accessed 2026 | More than 200 million downloads; over 25,000 five-star reviews | Downloads and reviews | Company-reported; neither equals active users |
| WP Engine, 2025 company PDF | 1.5 million customers in 150-plus countries | Company and suite customer reach | May cover the broader business, not one hosting plan |
Contribution signals versus commercial reach
WordPress.org’s first-half 2026 Global Partner announcement names Jetpack, WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Bluehost and Hostinger. The Five for the Future pledge directory includes Kinsta, Awesome Motive, Hostinger, Elementor, 10up and SiteGround, among others.

These are two different signals. A Global Partner supports a particular project event or period. A Five for the Future pledge records participation in a contribution initiative. Neither list measures revenue, customer satisfaction, market share or product quality, and absence from either list is not proof that a company lacks influence.

New site owner or publisher
First decide whether you want a hosted publishing service such as WordPress.com or a self-managed WordPress installation obtained through a hosting company. That choice affects how much responsibility you retain for updates, plugins, backups and infrastructure.
Online merchant
Separate the commerce layer from the hosting layer. WooCommerce supplies the WordPress commerce software and extensions; a host supplies the environment in which the store runs. Assess payment, tax, shipping and extension requirements before selecting infrastructure.
Design-led site owner
Elementor is the builder-focused option represented in this survey. Check whether your chosen theme, accessibility practices and long-term content workflow fit a visual builder before committing to it.
Recommended Free Tools
SEO-focused publisher
Yoast and AIOSEO are plugin brands in this ecosystem map. Compare their current feature sets, editorial workflow and compatibility with your WordPress version rather than treating download totals as a promise of rankings.
Agency, developer or enterprise team
WP Engine’s Local and Advanced Custom Fields, together with agency provider 10up, represent the development and implementation layer. Review deployment, collaboration, content modeling and maintenance requirements directly with each provider.
Bottom line
The most defensible 2026 view is not a numbered league table. Automattic and its brands span multiple layers; WooCommerce anchors commerce; Elementor and Yoast represent major builder and SEO categories; hosts such as Bluehost, Hostinger, Kinsta, SiteGround and WP Engine control access to managed infrastructure; Awesome Motive, 10up and developer tools shape the plugin and implementation ecosystem. Use the role, audience and evidence type that match your project, and treat every company-reported scale figure as a qualified signal rather than a common ranking metric.
