To remove sticky posts from a WordPress query’s results, pass their IDs in post__not_in, using get_option( 'sticky_posts' ). The similarly named ignore_sticky_posts argument only stops WordPress from moving sticky posts to the top; it does not exclude them.
Exclude sticky posts from a custom WP_Query
WordPress stores sticky post IDs in the sticky_posts option. Supply those IDs to post__not_in to leave them out of the result set:
$args = array(
'post__not_in' => get_option( 'sticky_posts' ),

What ignore_sticky_posts does—and does not do
Set 'ignore_sticky_posts' => 1 when you want sticky posts to remain eligible for the query but not receive sticky-post promotion to the beginning of the results. A sticky post can still appear in its ordinary position under the query’s other filters and ordering. To omit sticky posts entirely, use post__not_in. You can specify both to make the intent explicit:

Keep pagination when excluding sticky posts
When building a paginated custom query, retain its existing filters and pass the current page number through paged. For example, this category query excludes sticky posts while keeping the category and page selection:

$query = new WP_Query( $args );The Handbook’s pagination example uses paged. For a Page template serving as the static front page, the relevant page variable may instead be page; use the variable appropriate to that template and request.
Exclude sticky posts from the existing main query
If the theme already uses WordPress’s main query, adjust it with pre_get_posts rather than creating another query just to remove sticky posts. Scope the hook to the exact front-end view that should change. This example targets archive main queries:

An overly broad condition can alter multiple front-end views. WordPress’s pre_get_posts documentation explains how to target and modify queries.

Using get_posts()
get_posts() sets ignore_sticky_posts to true internally, so sticky posts are not promoted in its results. That does not exclude them. To omit IDs with this helper, pass them through its exclude argument, which maps to post__not_in:

'exclude' => get_option( 'sticky_posts' ),
