To capture an entire web page in Snagit, use All-in-One capture, start the capture on the page, then click Snagit’s orange scrolling arrow and let it move through the page. The result opens in Snagit Editor, where you can annotate, crop, copy, or save it. Snagit supports both vertical and horizontal scrolling capture, according to TechSmith Support.
The exact labels can vary by Snagit release and operating system. The procedure below follows TechSmith’s current feature and support documentation available in September 2026.

Snagit 2024 - Screen Capture & Image Editor [PC/Mac Online Code] | $49.99 | Buy on Amazon |
Before you start
Have Snagit installed and open, and load the target page in a desktop browser. If the page requires a login, sign in before capturing. Close overlays that you do not want in the image, such as newsletter prompts or chat panels. Decide whether you need the whole page, a long article column, or a page section; selecting less content usually produces a cleaner, easier-to-edit result.
- Use a stable browser window large enough to display the page and its scrollbars.
- Keep browser zoom at 100% while troubleshooting; unusual zoom levels can interfere with scrolling detection.
- Wait for important images, fonts, and interactive content to finish loading before you capture.
Automatic scrolling capture: the standard method
- Choose All-in-One. Open Snagit’s capture controls and select All-in-One as the capture type.
- Start the capture. Switch to the webpage and begin the capture from Snagit’s capture control. Select the browser window or the region containing the page.
- Choose a scrolling direction. When Snagit displays the orange scrolling arrows, click the arrow pointing down to capture a tall page. For a page that extends sideways, click the horizontal arrow. TechSmith documents both vertical and horizontal scrolling capture on its Screenshot Website feature page.
- Let Snagit move through the page. Keep the page still while Snagit scrolls and adds each viewport to the capture. Stop when the required content has been included, or allow it to reach the end of the page.
- Finish in Snagit Editor. The completed image opens in Editor. Use the crop tool to remove unwanted margins, annotate important areas, copy the capture to the clipboard, or save it in the required image format.
For a normal article, documentation page, or landing page, this is the quickest route because Snagit detects the scrolling surface and handles the repeated movement for you. The capture is not limited to what was visible on your monitor when you started.

Manual scrolling capture when the arrows do not appear
Automatic detection can fail when a page uses a nested scroll panel, unusual layout, or a browser configuration Snagit does not recognize. TechSmith’s documented alternative is manual Scrolling Capture.
- Open the All-in-One capture controls and select the option for Scrolling Capture.
- Drag a selection around the exact page area you want. Keep the browser scrollbar outside the selection when possible.
- Start the capture, then use the window’s scrollbar or mouse wheel to move through the page in one direction.
- Scroll smoothly and steadily. Continue until all required content has passed through the selected region, then finish the capture.
Manual capture gives you control over where the capture begins and how far it travels. It is particularly useful for a page with a fixed header, a nested article panel, or a scrollbar that automatic capture does not follow. The trade-off is that you must maintain consistent movement yourself.
Automatic versus manual scrolling
| Method | Best for | Control | When to switch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic scrolling | Conventional webpages with a clearly detected scrollbar | Snagit chooses the scrolling path after you click an arrow | Use first for most full-page captures |
| Manual Scrolling Capture | Nested panels, unusual layouts, or missing arrows | You define the region and move it with the scrollbar or mouse | Use when automatic capture fails or includes the wrong surface |
Prepare the page for a clean, complete result
Remove content you do not want recorded
Dismiss cookie notices, newsletter dialogs, floating chat controls, and sticky promotional bars before starting. If a fixed toolbar remains, adjust the selection so it is outside the capture or hide it temporarily. A fixed element that stays in the same position during scrolling can appear repeatedly or cover page content.
Wait for lazy-loaded content
Long pages often load images only as they approach the viewport. Scroll the page once manually, or wait until visible placeholders have become real content, before starting the final capture. Otherwise the upper part of the image may contain blank or low-resolution sections.
Choose boundaries carefully
For a full browser page, include the article or page content but avoid unnecessary browser chrome. Leave the scrollbar outside the selected region when using manual mode. Removing irrelevant margins and floating controls is one of TechSmith’s recommendations for failed or messy scrolling captures.
Use a stable layout
Do not resize the browser, change zoom, open developer tools, or switch tabs while Snagit is scrolling. Responsive pages can reflow when the viewport changes, producing seams or duplicated sections.
Editing and saving the capture
Snagit opens the result in Editor rather than silently saving it. Check the top, middle, and bottom of a long capture for duplicated rows, missing sections, or overlays. Crop excess whitespace, use callouts or arrows to explain a detail, and blur private information before sharing. Copy the finished image to the clipboard when another application needs it, or use Editor’s save or export command to create your required file.
For a very wide page, inspect the right edge as well as the bottom edge. Horizontal scrolling can capture content that a vertical-only workflow leaves out, but wide images may be difficult to read when pasted into a document; cropping to the relevant panel can improve readability.

No orange scrolling arrows appear
- Confirm that you selected All-in-One and started a capture rather than a simple region capture.
- Try manual Scrolling Capture and draw a tighter selection around the page.
- Make the browser window larger and keep its scrollbar outside the selected area.
- Return application zoom to 100% and retry.
The capture stops partway through
- Retry with smoother, one-direction scrolling.
- Remove fixed toolbars, side panels, and animated overlays from the selection.
- Allow images and other delayed content to finish loading before recapturing.
- Test the page in another supported browser or a private browsing window with extensions disabled.
Sections are duplicated, missing, or misaligned
Parallax designs, animated backgrounds, and pages with changing layout can defeat image stitching. TechSmith specifically notes that parallax websites may not capture accurately. Use manual capture with a smaller region, disable an optional animation, or capture the important sections separately and assemble them in Editor.
The page contains a nested scroll area
Many dashboards and documentation viewers scroll an inner panel rather than the browser window. Select only that panel and use manual Scrolling Capture, moving its own scrollbar. If you select the entire browser, Snagit may follow the outer window while the content you need remains stationary.
Another application appears to interfere
TechSmith lists conflicting third-party utilities, unsupported browsers or applications, hardware drivers, and security software as possible causes. Temporarily test with unnecessary utilities closed and another browser profile. If you disable security software solely as a diagnostic step, turn it back on immediately after testing and follow your organization’s security policy. See TechSmith’s scrolling-capture troubleshooting article for the documented checks.
Mac App Store version caveat
TechSmith has an older support article stating that the Mac App Store release did not include the full scrolling-capture feature. That article describes dragging a page URL onto Snagit as a workaround, but says the method works only for standard HTTP pages at a static URL and cannot capture pages that require secure login or dynamic content. Because the article was updated in 2021, treat this as distribution- and version-sensitive: check the behavior of the Snagit build installed on your Mac before relying on the workaround. The article is Scrolling Capture With Snagit App Store Release.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteReliability checklist for important captures
- Open the final image and verify the first, middle, and last sections.
- Check that lazy-loaded images, code blocks, tables, and embedded media are present.
- Look for repeated headers, stitching seams, and overlays that appeared during scrolling.
- Save an editable Snagit project if you may need to revise annotations later.
- Redact passwords, email addresses, tokens, and customer data before sharing.
For repeatable evidence, record the page URL, capture date, browser, Snagit edition, zoom level, and whether automatic or manual scrolling was used. A page can change between captures even when the procedure is identical.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need an automated screenshot rather than an interactive desktop capture, ScreenshotNeo returns a page image or PDF from one GET request. It accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot. You can turn each cleanup step off when required.
Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
The basic request, documented at ScreenshotNeo’s API documentation, is:

One-click scans. No signup required.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
You can request full-page capture with lazy images loaded, a CSS-selected element, dark mode, any viewport or one of 12 device presets, retina scale, PDF paper size and margins, custom CSS or JavaScript, a click before capture, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, blocked ads or resource types, custom headers, cookies, user agent, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, a chosen cache TTL, signed public-image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, usage data, and the OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work.
Plans include 1,000 free shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Growth is $15 for 15,000, Pro $39 for 60,000, Scale $99 for 250,000, and Business $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing provides two months free, and every feature is available on every plan.
Create a free ScreenshotNeo account to get 1,000 screenshots each month without adding a card.
Which approach should you use?
Choose Snagit when you need to inspect a page visually, control the capture interactively, annotate immediately, or capture a desktop application as well as a browser. Start with automatic scrolling and switch to manual mode when detection or stitching is unreliable. Choose ScreenshotNeo when a script, build pipeline, API call, or AI agent must capture URLs repeatedly without opening a browser window.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Snagit capture a page that scrolls horizontally?
Yes. TechSmith documents horizontal as well as vertical scrolling capture. Click the horizontal scrolling arrow when it appears, or use manual Scrolling Capture for a controlled region.
Why does a long screenshot show a blank area where images should be?
The page may use lazy loading. Let the images load by scrolling through the page once before starting the final capture, then verify the result in Snagit Editor.
Does Snagit capture content behind a login?
A normal browser capture can include content visible after you sign in. The older Mac App Store URL-drag workaround is different and was documented as unable to capture pages requiring secure login; verify the behavior of your installed distribution.
