One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchStart with Microsoft Edge’s built-in Screenshot. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page or a selected area, then add pen or touch markup before copying or saving. You do not need an extension for ordinary scrolling-page captures. Install an Edge screenshot extension only when you need capabilities such as recording, webcam or microphone capture, mosaic redaction, richer export formats, PDF or video output, or collaboration links.
This guide explains Edge’s native workflow, compares four Edge Add-ons listings, shows how to choose one for privacy and output requirements, and gives an automated alternative with ScreenshotNeo.
What Edge can do without an extension
Edge’s Screenshot command captures a selected area or an entire page, including long or moving webpages. It can add comments or markup with a pen or touch input, then copy or save the result. Microsoft says the command is available from the right-click menu, the Edge Settings menu, or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S. Availability and labels can vary by device type, market, and browser version.
Capture a full webpage
- Open the page and wait until the content you need is visible.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open the page’s context menu and choose Screenshot. You can also use the Edge Settings menu.
- Select Capture full page to include the whole document without manually scrolling.
- Use the pen or touch controls to add comments or markup.
- Copy the image or save it when the annotation is complete.
Capture only part of the page
- Open Screenshot with Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the selected-area option.
- Drag around the content to retain, adjust the selection, and apply markup if needed.
- Copy or save the finished capture.
This native tool is the sensible default for a one-off page image: there is no installation, no extension permission to review, and no separate account. Extensions become useful when the built-in capture and markup controls do not cover your workflow.

When an Edge screenshot extension is worth installing
Extensions add functions rather than replacing the native command. Common reasons to install one include:
- Recording: capture a browser tab, desktop, camera, microphone, or webcam, sometimes with subtitles and video editing.
- Redaction and annotation: blur or mosaic sensitive text, add arrows and shapes, or apply richer editing tools.
- Output choices: export to PNG, JPEG, AVIF, WebP, PDF, or MP4, depending on the listing.
- Sharing: create a hosted link or connect captures to services such as Jira, Slack, Trello, Asana, or GitHub.
- Automatic stitching: scroll a page and merge the sections into one image when the extension provides that function.
Full-page stitching and file format are separate decisions. An extension may automatically scroll and merge a page while supporting only PNG, or it may offer several formats without providing the same stitching behavior. Check both capabilities.
Edge screenshot extensions compared
| Extension | Capture and editing | Export, sharing, and privacy information | Listing details |
|---|---|---|---|
| CocoShot | One-click full-page capture without manual scrolling; arrows, text, highlights, shapes, and blur; screen, tab, and webcam capture; recording, subtitles, and video editing. | PDF export preserves clickable links; MP4 export. Its store privacy disclosure says no personal data is collected. | The Edge Add-ons listing reports 140,000+ users (a store-reported figure that can change). Version 1.41 was updated September 14, 2026. |
| QwikCapture | Area, visible-screen, and automatically stitched full-page capture; text, arrows, shapes, freehand marks, and mosaic redaction; clipboard copy; PNG saving. | Optional Share image creates a link. The publisher says capture, editing, copying, and saving are local by default and upload occurs only after that action. | Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder | Page, selected-area, visible-part, full-screen, and application-window capture; crop, text, arrows, shapes, blur, highlights; desktop, tab, and camera recording. | PNG, JPG, and PDF export; microphone and webcam options; 720p, 1080p, and 4K recording dimensions; local downloads, online-account storage, and share links to Jira, Slack, Trello, Asana, and GitHub. | Storage and sharing behavior depends on whether you download locally or use an online account. |
| Easy Screenshot – a Web Clipper | Three entire-screen methods plus visible-part and portion capture; context-menu access; automatic scrolling and merging for pages larger than the window. | PNG, JPEG, AVIF, and WebP output. The listing says captures are not watermarked and discloses no personal data collected. | Choose it when format choice and stitched long-page images matter more than recording or hosted collaboration. |
Listing claims, user counts, privacy disclosures, and version information can change. Treat them as the publisher’s current store statements, not permanent guarantees.
How to choose the right extension
Choose native Edge Screenshot for simple, local captures
Use the built-in command when you need a full page or selected area, basic pen or touch markup, and a quick copy or save. It is also the lowest-friction choice for work material that should not pass through an additional extension.

Choose QwikCapture for local-first editing and mosaic redaction
QwikCapture is the closest match when you want area, visible-screen, and stitched full-page modes together with mosaic redaction. Its publisher states that processing is local by default and that upload starts only when you explicitly choose Share image. The store disclosure still lists location-data collection, so inspect permissions and the latest privacy text before use.
Choose CocoShot for capture plus recording and video output
CocoShot combines page screenshots with screen, tab, and webcam capture, subtitles, editing, PDF export, and MP4 export. It suits demonstrations and tutorials where a still image and a recording are part of the same workflow. Its “140,000+ users” figure and no-personal-data disclosure are store-reported and may change.
Choose Awesome Screenshot for collaboration workflows
Awesome Screenshot covers page, area, visible-part, full-screen, and application-window captures, then adds recording, camera and microphone controls, several recording dimensions, and links to common project tools. Choose deliberately between local downloads and online-account storage.
Choose Easy Screenshot for format flexibility
Easy Screenshot is the most direct fit when you need automatic scrolling and merging together with PNG, JPEG, AVIF, or WebP output. It is not the choice to make solely for video recording or webcam features, because those are not listed capabilities.

Privacy and permissions checklist
A screenshot extension can see page content while it operates, and a recorder may request access to tabs, the desktop, a camera, or a microphone. Before selecting Get, check:
- What the Edge Add-ons privacy disclosure says is collected, retained, or shared.
- Whether processing is local by default or requires an upload for editing or sharing.
- Which permissions the extension requests and whether they match the feature you need.
- Whether account-based storage is optional or part of the workflow.
- How the extension handles redaction: blur and mosaic are editing tools, not proof that the original sensitive pixels never existed in memory or storage.
QwikCapture’s local-by-default statement is narrower than a blanket “nothing ever leaves the device” promise: the listing specifically says an upload occurs after you click Share image. Easy Screenshot and CocoShot disclose no personal data collected in their listings, while QwikCapture’s listing discloses location-data collection. Recheck the live listing because disclosures can be revised.
Installing an Edge screenshot extension
- Select the Extensions puzzle-piece icon in Edge. If it is not visible, open Settings and more and choose Extensions.
- Select Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge.
- Search for the exact listing name, read its permissions and privacy disclosure, and select Get.
- Pin the extension from the Extensions panel if you want a toolbar button.
- Open its options before the first production capture. Set the output format, redaction behavior, recording source, or sharing mode you actually need.
Do not assume that an extension’s “full page” button and Edge’s native Capture full page behave identically. Test a page with lazy-loaded images, sticky headers, and content that moves while scrolling.
Troubleshooting captures
The full-page option is missing
Use Ctrl+Shift+S and check the Screenshot menu rather than the extension’s button. Microsoft notes that Screenshot functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version. If the native command is unavailable in your configuration, use an extension that explicitly lists automatic scrolling and stitching, such as QwikCapture or Easy Screenshot.
The stitched image has gaps or repeated sections
Dynamic pages can change while an extension scrolls. Try Edge’s native full-page capture, which is described as supporting long or moving webpages, or use a capture mode that waits for the page to settle. For repeatable automated work, capture a page after its required content has loaded and avoid interacting with it during the scroll.

- 【Package Content & Note】 1x HD Audio Capture Card , 1x USB 3.0 to USB C Adapter (A-side 3.0, B-side 2.0), 1x user manual. Please note that you need to restart the OBS Studio software after the audio setup is complete, otherwise it will result in no sound output. When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
Images or lazy-loaded sections are absent
Scroll through the page once before capturing, or choose a tool that explicitly handles automatic scrolling. Compare the result at the bottom of the document, where deferred images most often appear.
Text is readable in the browser but not in the export
Check the selected output format and scale. A PDF, PNG, JPEG, AVIF, and WebP file can preserve different levels of text sharpness after resizing or compression. Easy Screenshot lists all four image formats; CocoShot lists PDF export with clickable links.
A recording has no audio or camera image
Confirm that the selected source is the tab, desktop, camera, or microphone you intended and that Edge has granted the requested permission. Awesome Screenshot and CocoShot list recording options, but the exact permission prompt depends on the source you select.
A redaction is not where you expected
Zoom in before applying blur or mosaic, then inspect the saved file rather than only the editor preview. QwikCapture lists mosaic redaction; CocoShot and Awesome Screenshot list blur. For highly sensitive information, remove or replace the content at the source whenever possible instead of relying only on a visual overlay.

The extension requests more access than expected
Stop installation and reread the listing’s permissions and privacy disclosure. A recording or application-window feature may require broader access than a selected-area still image. If the requested access does not match your use case, use native Edge Screenshot instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Automated screenshots without a browser extension
If you need screenshots in a build, documentation job, monitoring task, or script, a browser extension is the wrong interface. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server; it is the first alternative to try for automated captures because it removes consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot, bills only clean captures, and has a $5 paid plan for 3,000 shots.
Or skip the browser setup
One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. The API accepts a URL and an access key; the complete parameter reference is in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

Why the API differs from an extension
- Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Every response identifies the result with
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedheaders. - An MCP server provides
take_screenshot,get_page_info, andcapture_pdftools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. - Options include full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, PDF paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay, or network idle, blocking ads, trackers, requests, or resource types, custom headers, cookies, user agent and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed links for public image tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification.
ScreenshotNeo’s plans are:

Practical decision
Use Edge’s native Screenshot first for quick full-page or selected-area images. Add QwikCapture for local-first editing and mosaic redaction, CocoShot or Awesome Screenshot for recording and collaboration, and Easy Screenshot for stitched captures with broad image-format support. For repeatable, scriptable captures—or when banners, popups, failed loads, and AI-agent access matter—use ScreenshotNeo instead of managing a browser extension.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Edge Add-ons user counts and privacy disclosures permanent guarantees?
No. Counts, version numbers, permissions, and privacy statements are publisher-reported store information that can change. Review the live listing immediately before installation.
What is the difference between a stitched screenshot and a PDF capture?
Stitching describes how a tool joins content from a page longer than the viewport; PDF describes the output document format. A tool can support one without supporting the other.
