No. Microsoft Teams does not currently notify other participants when someone takes a screenshot during a meeting or call. That answer is scoped to meetings and calls; the available evidence does not establish identical behavior for every Teams surface, such as chats, files, or channel posts.
What happens when someone screenshots a Teams meeting?
A screenshot captured on a participant’s device is not announced to the organizer or other attendees. There is no Teams banner, chat message, toast, email, or attendance-log entry that tells participants a screenshot was taken.
This is different from a Teams recording or transcription. Teams can display notices and consent dialogs when those activities start, because they are Teams-controlled features. Those notices do not mean Teams is detecting screenshots made with an operating-system shortcut, phone camera, or third-party utility.

In an accepted Microsoft Q&A response dated June 13, 2025, Microsoft External Staff moderator Steven-N wrote that Teams “does not currently include a feature to alert users when a screenshot is captured during a meeting or call.” No numerical study or usage statistic establishes otherwise.

Screenshot alerts, capture prevention, and recording notices are different

Do not infer screenshot detection from a recording banner. A participant can see a recording notice even though Teams has not detected a separate screenshot.
How Teams Premium’s Prevent screen captures option works
Microsoft offers an organizer-controlled Prevent screen captures feature in Teams Premium. It is designed to reduce capture risk, not to send a message when somebody tries to take a screenshot. The option is off by default, and attendees do not need Teams Premium for an organizer to enable it.
Enable it before the meeting
- Open Calendar in Teams and open the scheduled meeting.
- Select Options.
- Open Advanced protection.
- Turn on Prevent screen captures.
- Select Apply.
Organizers and co-organizers with Teams Premium can configure the setting. Microsoft says to enable it before the meeting. If it is changed while a meeting is in progress, the change takes effect after everyone leaves and rejoins.

What supported clients see
- Windows desktop: a screenshot of the meeting window shows a black rectangle instead of the protected meeting content.
- iOS and Android: screenshots and recordings are blocked, and the attendee sees a restriction message.
- Teams Rooms on Windows: listed by Microsoft as supported.
Unsupported clients and meeting types
Microsoft lists macOS desktop, the web client, virtual desktop environments, Cloud Video Interop, and Teams Rooms on Android as unsupported for this protection. Participants joining from those clients join audio-only when the restriction is applied, so client compatibility must be part of the meeting plan.
The feature is intended for private, scheduled meetings. Microsoft says webinar support is going away soon and town halls are no longer supported. Town halls created before December 16, 2025 with the setting enabled run audio-only. Because webinar availability is changing, verify the current support article before relying on the control for an event.
What Prevent screen captures cannot do
It cannot create an alert
A blocked or restricted capture is not converted into a notification for the organizer. The control changes what supported clients can display or save; it does not provide a screenshot-attempt report.

It cannot control every capture path
Protection depends on the client and meeting configuration. An unsupported client may be limited to audio rather than showing protected video. External cameras, another device pointed at the screen, and capture paths outside Teams are not transformed into Teams notifications by this setting.

Meeting options that restrict copying or forwarding of meeting chat and transcripts protect those materials inside Teams. They do not stop screenshots or third-party capture software. Treat those settings as separate controls.
What organizers should do when screenshots are a concern
Set expectations explicitly
Because Teams does not report screenshots, state your confidentiality and redistribution rules in the invitation and at the beginning of the meeting. Explain what content may be shared, who may receive it, and how long it should be retained. A policy is an administrative control; it is not technical screenshot detection.
Use the Premium prevention control where it fits
For a private scheduled meeting, a Teams Premium organizer can enable Prevent screen captures before participants join. Confirm every attendee’s client, room type, and meeting format. If an important attendee relies on an unsupported client, the audio-only behavior may be unacceptable.
Use recording and transcription deliberately
If the goal is an official record, use Teams recording or transcription and rely on their documented notices and consent behavior. Do not describe those notices as evidence that Teams can see unrelated screenshots.

Protect the material itself
- Share only the minimum sensitive information needed for the meeting.
- Use access-controlled files instead of placing permanent secrets on screen.
- Remove credentials, personal data, and production tokens from demonstrations.
- Review who can join, present, and access the meeting recording afterward.
Can an administrator add automatic screenshot alerts?
There is no documented Teams setting or supported workflow in the supplied Microsoft guidance that turns participant screenshots into automatic alerts. “Prevent screen captures is enabled, so I should receive a report.”
That option is a restriction mechanism. Confirm that it was enabled before the meeting and that the attendee used a supported client; neither check produces a participant notification.
“Chat copy protection should stop screenshots.”
It does not. Copy and forwarding controls apply to meeting chat and transcripts, while screenshots and third-party capture are separate.
“A participant cannot see video, so Teams detected a screenshot.”
On unsupported clients, Microsoft describes audio-only joining when capture prevention is applied. A missing video feed is a compatibility outcome, not proof of a logged screenshot attempt.
