Use Chrome DevTools, not the Windows screen snipping shortcut. In Chrome on Windows, open DevTools, enable the Device Toolbar, choose More options, then select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome saves an image of the complete document, including content below the visible viewport. You can also open DevTools’ Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P, search for screenshot, and choose the full-size command.
What “entire webpage” means in Chrome
A full-size webpage capture renders the document from its top to its bottom, including sections that are not currently visible. That is different from a normal screenshot, which records only the pixels in the current browser viewport.
- Capture a full size screenshot: captures the whole page.
- Capture screenshot: captures only the current viewport.
- Windows+Shift+S: opens Snipping Tool’s screen-capture overlay; it does not command Chrome to capture a complete, scrolling webpage.
Before starting, let the page finish loading and make sure any content you need is present. Pages that load sections only after scrolling, clicking, signing in, or dismissing a consent dialog may need those actions first.
Method 1: Chrome DevTools’ full-size screenshot command
- Open the page. Navigate to the URL in Chrome and wait for the main content, images, and fonts you need to load.
- Open DevTools. Press Ctrl+Shift+I. If your keyboard has a working F12 key configured for developer tools, F12 can also open DevTools.
- Show Device Mode. In DevTools, turn on the Device Toolbar if it is not already visible. The toolbar is the responsive-device control at the top of the DevTools pane.
- Open the toolbar menu. Click More options in the Device Toolbar.
- Capture the document. Select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome generates an image containing the page beyond the visible viewport and downloads it through the browser.
Use the full-size command even when the page is currently scrolled halfway down. The command is intended to capture the document rather than only the pixels presently shown. If you choose Capture screenshot instead, the result is limited to the current viewport.

Method 2: Use the DevTools Command Menu
The Command Menu is useful when the Device Toolbar menu is difficult to find or you prefer keyboard navigation.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows to open the DevTools Command Menu.
- Type
screenshotin the search field. - Choose the command that captures a full size screenshot, not the command that captures only the visible area.
The two DevTools routes produce the same type of whole-page result. The menu path is easier to discover visually; the Command Menu is faster once you remember the shortcut.
Getting a clean, complete capture
Wait for dynamic content
Do not start the capture while a page is still displaying loading placeholders. If a chart, image gallery, or article section appears only after a delay, wait until it is visible before invoking the command.
Handle consent dialogs and overlays
A cookie notice, newsletter prompt, or chat panel can cover content in the resulting image. Close or accept those elements before capturing when the site allows it. If a dialog blocks the page, the capture command may faithfully include that obstruction.

Expand accordions, open tabs, or scroll through an interface when the content you need is not inserted into the document until you interact with it. A full-size command captures the page state you prepared; it is not a substitute for completing an application’s workflow.

Check unusually long pages
Very long documents can produce a large image that is awkward to view or share. For a report or specification, consider capturing logical sections separately or exporting the source page through an appropriate document workflow when an image is not required.
Why Windows+Shift+S is not a full-page Chrome capture
Windows+Shift+S opens Microsoft’s Snipping Tool overlay. Its documented modes are rectangle, window, full-screen, and freeform capture. These modes record what is on the screen; they do not instruct Chrome to scroll through a document and stitch the off-screen content into one webpage image.
The Print Screen key similarly takes a snapshot of the entire current screen to the clipboard. It can include the browser window, desktop elements, and only the portion of the page currently visible. Use these Windows tools for a visible region, a window, or the desktop—not for a complete scrolling webpage.

Optional extension route: GoFullPage
GoFullPage is an optional Chrome extension workflow for full-page captures. Its Chrome Web Store listing displays a version 8.9 change dated 2026-09-24. The listing establishes the extension and that change-log entry, but it does not establish any affiliate arrangement, capture-quality measurement, privacy guarantee, or compatibility promise.
For a one-off capture, Chrome’s built-in DevTools command avoids installing another extension. An extension can be convenient if you use a dedicated capture control repeatedly, but review the permissions and current store details yourself before installing any browser add-on.

Which Windows Chrome route should you choose?
| Route | Best use | What it captures | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| DevTools: More options → Capture a full size screenshot | A complete webpage image without installing an extension | The document, including content outside the viewport | Requires opening DevTools and using Device Mode |
| DevTools Command Menu | Keyboard-driven or repeatable captures | The same full-size document capture when the full-size command is selected | You must distinguish the full-size command from the viewport command |
| Windows Snipping Tool | A visible region, window, screen, or freeform selection | Screen pixels in the selected capture mode | Not a documented whole-document webpage command |
| GoFullPage extension | An optional extension-based workflow | A full-page capture through the extension | Requires an add-on; the cited listing does not establish quality, privacy, or partner terms |
Troubleshooting a full-page capture
The result shows only the visible area
You probably selected Capture screenshot or used Snipping Tool. Reopen DevTools, choose the Device Toolbar’s More options menu, and select Capture a full size screenshot. In the Command Menu, search again for screenshot and select the full-size entry.
The Device Toolbar is missing
DevTools can open with the toolbar hidden. Look for the device-toggle control in the DevTools toolbar and enable it, then open More options. If the DevTools pane is too narrow, widen it or open DevTools in a separate window so the toolbar controls are easier to see.

A banner or chat widget covers the page
Dismiss the banner or widget before capturing. If it returns after a reload, complete the site’s consent step first, then invoke the full-size command without reloading.
Images or sections are blank
Wait for the page to finish loading and confirm the missing element appears in the normal page view. Some sites insert media only after scrolling or another interaction; perform that interaction, then capture again. A failed network request or an element that never renders cannot be repaired by the screenshot command itself.
The page is clipped at an internal scroll panel
A page may contain a fixed-height element with its own scrollbar. Chrome’s full-size command captures the document, but an independently scrolling panel may still show only its currently rendered portion. Scroll that panel and capture the relevant state, or use the site’s own export function if it provides one.
The image is too large to share
Capture smaller logical sections, reduce the page’s content before capturing, or convert the resulting file to a format and dimensions accepted by your destination. Keep the original full-size file if you may need to verify details later.

Automating whole-page captures for a site or workflow
DevTools is ideal for an occasional manual capture. For scheduled jobs, many URLs, authenticated pages, or an application that needs an image response, an HTTP screenshot API avoids maintaining a browser setup.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before the capture, it can accept the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the outcome with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
For the complete parameter list and OpenAPI details, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Replace the example URL with the page you need and keep your access key out of client-side code. ScreenshotNeo accepts the parameter names used by other screenshot APIs, which can simplify a migration.

Frequently asked questions
Where does Chrome save the full-size image?
Chrome uses its normal download behavior. Check the Downloads shelf or the download folder configured in Chrome’s settings after the command completes.
Can I capture a page that requires a login?
Yes, if the page is already authenticated in the Chrome profile where you run DevTools and the content is visible there. Do not share captures that contain private account data without checking the image first.
Can a full-page image replace a PDF?
Not always. A screenshot preserves visual appearance as pixels, while a PDF workflow can preserve pagination and document-oriented output. If you need paper size, margins, landscape orientation, or page ranges, use a PDF-capable workflow such as ScreenshotNeo’s capture_pdf tool or PDF options.
