Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11In Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, open the PDF, choose Take a Snapshot, then click the page to capture everything visible or drag around a specific region. Acrobat copies that area as an image to your clipboard; paste it with Ctrl+V on Windows or Command+V on macOS. To print only the captured area, use the printer’s Selected graphic option.
What Adobe’s Snapshot tool does
Acrobat’s Snapshot tool captures visible PDF content as a bitmap image. It is useful when you need a quick picture of a chart, paragraph, form section, diagram, or part of a page. The result goes to the clipboard automatically, so you can paste it into an email, document, image editor, presentation, or chat.
The capture is an image, not an editable copy of the PDF’s text. Links, selectable text, form controls, and document structure are not preserved in the pasted result. If you need editable content, use Acrobat’s export or conversion features instead.
How to take a snapshot in Adobe Acrobat
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat.
- Choose the Snapshot command. On Windows, use Menu > Undo, Redo and More > Take a snapshot. On macOS, use Edit > Undo, Redo and More > Take a snapshot.
- Choose the capture area:
- Click anywhere on the page to copy all content currently visible in the page view.
- Click and drag a rectangle around a particular region to capture only that text, image, or mixed area.
- Release the mouse button. Acrobat copies the selection to the clipboard automatically.
- Paste it into the destination application with Ctrl+V on Windows or Command+V on macOS.
The selection is made from the page as displayed in Acrobat. Anything outside the visible page view or outside your rectangle is not included. If you need another area, run Take a Snapshot again and make a new selection.

Using Snapshot in Acrobat Reader
In Acrobat Reader, the command is located at Edit > More > Take A Snapshot. Drag over the required area and release; Reader places the image on the clipboard. Paste it in another application, then press Esc to leave Snapshot mode.
Reader may refuse to copy when the PDF author has enabled security restrictions that disallow copying. This is a permission set by the document, not a failure of the mouse selection.
How to print only part of a PDF page
Use Snapshot first, then print the captured graphic rather than the whole page:
- Capture the required region with Take a Snapshot.
- Open Acrobat’s Print dialog.
- Under Pages to Print > More Options, select Selected graphic.
- Choose the sizing behavior. Actual size prints the selection at its current size; choose Fit under Page Sizing & Handling when the graphic should be enlarged to the paper.
- Start the print job.
In newer Acrobat builds, Snapshot copies the selection and may also show a preview notification at the bottom of the window. To print from that preview, open its Options menu and choose Print. If your menus do not match this behavior, choose Help > Check for updates, install the available Acrobat update, and try again.

When the Snapshot command is missing
Use the current menu path
Interface tutorials written for older Acrobat releases may point to a toolbar button that has moved. Use Menu > Undo, Redo and More > Take a snapshot on Windows or Edit > Undo, Redo and More > Take a snapshot on macOS. In Acrobat’s newer experience, you can also find Take a Snapshot in the Quick action toolbar.
Update Acrobat
Adobe’s newer Snapshot preview behavior is documented for 2026. If the command or preview notification is absent, choose Help > Check for updates, complete the update, restart Acrobat, and check the menu again.
Check which Adobe application is open
Acrobat and Acrobat Reader use the PDF Snapshot command. Photoshop has a different feature also called “snapshot,” so opening Photoshop will not provide the clipboard capture described here.
Why a snapshot may not copy
Document copying is restricted
Open the PDF’s Document Properties and inspect the Security tab. If copying is prohibited, Acrobat Reader can block Snapshot copying. You need an unrestricted copy or the document owner’s permission; changing the viewer menu cannot override the PDF’s security settings.

The result is not editable
Snapshot intentionally creates an image. To edit words as words, export the PDF to a suitable format such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, or extract the original content instead of capturing the screen.
The wrong content was selected
Snapshot follows the visible page view and the rectangle you draw. Cancel the selection, scroll to the required area, and capture again. For a full-page result, make sure the page view shows the content you want before clicking once.
Acrobat Snapshot versus Photoshop Snapshot
The shared name causes confusion, but the tools have different goals and outputs.
| Feature | Acrobat or Acrobat Reader | Photoshop |
|---|---|---|
| Primary goal | Copy visible PDF content as an image | Save a temporary editing state for an image |
| Where it is found | Take a Snapshot in the Acrobat menus or Quick action toolbar | Window > History, then Create New Snapshot |
| Selection scope | All visible page content or a dragged rectangle | Full Document, Merged Layers, or Current Layer |
| Output | Image placed on the system clipboard for pasting or printing | A History-panel state used to compare or return to an editing stage |
| Persistence | Intended for immediate reuse from the clipboard | Available during the open Photoshop document session; it is not the same as an exported file |
If your goal is to paste part of a PDF into another application, use Acrobat’s Snapshot. If your goal is to preserve an earlier Photoshop editing state, use the History-panel snapshot.

Or skip the browser setup
Acrobat Snapshot is the right tool for a local PDF. If what you actually need is an automated screenshot of a public webpage, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request website screenshot API and an MCP server for AI agents. It does not replace Acrobat’s PDF clipboard command, but it avoids opening a browser and selecting a page by hand.
Use the API documentation at https://screenshotneo.com/docs/ for the complete option list. The following calls request a WebP screenshot of Stripe’s homepage:
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo can capture full pages with lazy-loaded images, a single CSS-selected element, dark mode, device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, PDFs, custom HTML/CSS and JavaScript, clicks before capture, hidden selectors, selector or network-idle waits, blocked ads and trackers, custom headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone and geolocation. It also supports transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, up to 100 URLs per bulk call, usage reporting, an OpenAPI specification, and familiar parameter names used by other screenshot APIs.
Before capture, it can accept consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP tools—take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf—work with Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; yearly billing provides two months free. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account to try it without entering a card.

Frequently asked questions
Does Snapshot save a separate image file automatically?
No. Acrobat puts the capture on the clipboard. Paste it into an application that can save images, or use the print workflow if you need paper output.
Can I use Snapshot to copy an entire multipage PDF?
No. Snapshot works on the visible page view or a selected rectangle. Repeat the operation for each page or use an export or conversion workflow for document-wide content.
Will a pasted snapshot keep hyperlinks?
No. The pasted result is a bitmap image, so PDF links and selectable text are not retained as interactive objects.
