To take a screenshot with Gyazo, open the desktop app, click its tray or menu-bar icon (or press your configured shortcut), drag over the area you want, and release. Gyazo uploads the image, opens it in your browser, and copies a shareable URL to your clipboard by default. Paste that link into a chat, email, document, or ticket.
What Gyazo captures
Gyazo has two related workflows:
- Desktop app: captures a rectangular area of your entire screen, including content in other applications as well as a browser.
- Browser extension: captures a page element, a selected rectangle, the visible page, or the complete page from top to bottom.
The extension produces still images. Gyazo’s Video and Replay features are separate workflows and are not supported by the extension.
Take a desktop screenshot
1. Install and launch Gyazo
Install Gyazo using its official Windows or Mac package. On Windows, start the installed executable and look for the Gyazo icon in the desktop or taskbar area. On macOS, launch the installer and then use the menu-bar or Dock icon. Gyazo also lists mobile apps, browser extensions, and an open-source Linux version. Linux is not technically supported by Gyazo, and Video and Replay are unavailable there, so check the current system-requirements page before relying on platform-specific features.
2. Select the screen area
- Click the Gyazo icon in the Windows system tray/taskbar or the Mac menu bar/Dock. Alternatively, use a configured desktop shortcut.
- Move the pointer to one corner of the region you need.
- Press and hold the mouse button or trackpad, then drag to the opposite corner.
- Release. Gyazo captures the selection and uploads it automatically.
You can select a browser window, a dialog from another application, or any other visible desktop area. Close or hide confidential information first; the selected pixels are uploaded to Gyazo.

3. Share the result
After upload, Gyazo normally opens the capture in your default browser and copies its unique URL. Paste it where needed with Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac. Gyazo also documents Markdown and HTML embed options when you need an image inside a supported document or issue tracker.
The browser-tab and clipboard actions are defaults, not requirements. Gyazo settings let you change URL-copy behavior; on Windows, there is an option to prevent opening a new tab after each capture.
Capture a web page with the Gyazo extension
Install the extension
Install Gyazo’s extension for a supported Chrome-, Firefox-, or Edge-based browser. The extension is useful when you need page-aware capture rather than a rectangle of the desktop.
Choose a capture mode

Whole-page capture combines the scrolling page into one image. Dynamic pages can change while they are being captured, so check the resulting image for missing lazy-loaded content, sticky headers, or overlays.
Use the extension keyboard controls
For Chrome, configure a shortcut in the browser’s extension-shortcuts settings. After launching Gyazo’s extension, its documented mode keys are:

Desktop shortcuts are built into the app; the exact key combination depends on your configuration and operating system.

Where captures live and what sharing means
Gyazo uploads desktop and extension captures and makes them available through Gyazo URLs. A recipient can use the URL without installing Gyazo. Captures remain on Gyazo’s server; access to older items from the Captures page has separate restrictions on free accounts, even though the individual capture URL remains the sharing mechanism.
Because the link is the access path, treat screenshots containing passwords, personal data, internal dashboards, or customer information as sensitive. Crop secrets before releasing the mouse, or avoid capturing them altogether. Review the uploaded image and its URL before posting it publicly.
Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when you click the icon
- Confirm Gyazo is running in the system tray or menu bar rather than only being installed.
- On Windows, check the taskbar’s hidden-icons area; on Mac, check the menu bar or Dock.
- Try the configured shortcut. If another application owns the same shortcut, change it in Gyazo or that application.
The capture is the wrong size
Start the drag at the exact corner you need and keep the pointer inside the target area until release. For web pages, use the extension’s element or whole-page mode instead of trying to include a long page in a desktop rectangle.

The browser page opens but the image is not ready
Wait for the upload to finish before closing the tab. A slow connection, large whole-page image, or busy server can delay the result. Retry the capture if the page shows an error rather than an image.
The URL was not copied
Open the capture page and copy its address manually. Then review Gyazo’s settings; the default clipboard and new-tab actions can be changed.
Whole-page capture misses content
Let the page finish loading before starting. Scroll through it once to trigger lazy content, close cookie notices or chat widgets that cover the page, and recapture. If the site changes layout while scrolling, the extension may produce seams or repeated fixed elements; a visible-page capture can be more reliable for a single viewport.
Gyazo is unavailable on your platform
Gyazo documents Windows and Mac desktop packages and an open-source Linux version, but Linux is not technically supported. Verify current compatibility and use the browser extension or another supported environment if the desktop app cannot run.
