To create a WooCommerce order bump, install an order-bump extension, enable it, then create a rule that selects the product to offer, defines who sees it, and controls how it appears at checkout. This guide follows the documented setup for the official Order Bump for WooCommerce extension. When a shopper accepts the offer, the product is added to the order and the total updates.

What a WooCommerce order bump does

An order bump is a product offer shown during checkout, giving a customer the option to add it to the purchase they are already making. It is different from an extra checkout field: the customer is accepting a product offer, not simply entering information or paying a fee.

The official extension describes support for classic and block-based checkout. Its documentation also provides an Order Bump block for block checkout. Compatibility can depend on the versions running on your store, so confirm the current requirements and tested versions on the Marketplace listing before installing or updating.

Install and enable the extension

  1. Download the extension ZIP from your WooCommerce account.
  2. In WordPress Admin, open Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP file, and select Install Now. Activate the extension after installation.
  3. Open the extension settings and enable Enable Order Bump.
  4. Review the options for skipping an offer product that is already in the cart and for setting its checkout display position.

These instructions describe one documented implementation; the extension is not the only possible way to add a checkout offer. Labels and settings may change, so use the current interface and official setup documentation if your screen differs.

Create an order-bump rule

  1. In the dashboard, go to Order Bump > Order Bump and select Add New.
  2. Select the product customers can add as the offer. Set whether its quantity is fixed or customer-selected within a range you configure.
  3. If you want to discount the offer, choose a discount type and value.
  4. Set the eligibility criteria, such as cart contents, shopper status, purchase history, or a date or weekday.
  5. Choose an offer template and edit the available customer-facing content and design fields. Use the rule preview to inspect the result.
  6. Save the rule and set its display position for the checkout type your store uses.

Choose who qualifies

The documented rule criteria cover several kinds of store and shopper conditions:

  • Order and cart: products present or absent, subtotal, order total, product count, category, and product type.
  • Customer: guest or logged-in status, user role, account creation date, previous purchases, and order history.
  • Time: date ranges and weekdays.

When multiple conditions appear in one criteria set, all of them must match. Separate criteria sets can function as alternatives: a shopper qualifies by meeting one set.

Set offer limits and rule behavior

The extension documents controls for limiting an offer by total order count or per user, deciding whether to show one bump or multiple bumps, and configuring how coupons apply to offer products. In single-bump mode, the first matching rule is shown by default, with alternative priority settings available. Multiple-bump mode has separate sorting and count settings. Review these controls in the current rule interface, particularly if you have overlapping rules.

Place the offer in checkout

Block-based checkout

Edit the checkout page and place the Order Bump block where you want the offer to appear; rearrange it as needed. WooCommerce’s Checkout block documentation explains the block-based checkout context. Check the extension’s current compatibility information against your installed WooCommerce and WordPress versions.

Classic checkout

For classic checkout, set the offer’s display location in the extension settings. The Marketplace listing states that the extension supports both classic and block-based checkout, but a listing-level statement does not guarantee compatibility with every combination of versions or other plugins.

Test the customer journey before launch

Run through checkout as a customer on your own store. Use test orders or another safe payment-testing method appropriate to your setup, and check the following:

  • The rule appears for a cart and customer who meet its conditions, and does not appear when they do not.
  • The offer is in the intended location and displays correctly on a phone as well as a desktop browser.
  • Accepting the offer adds the intended product and quantity, and the order total updates correctly.
  • Discounts, coupons, quantity limits, and offer-frequency limits behave as configured.
  • The checkout still completes successfully when the shopper declines the offer.

Do not confuse an order bump with Checkout Add-ons

WooCommerce Checkout Add-ons is a separate feature for additions such as tips, gift wrapping, rush handling, or gift messages. Its documentation describes these as order-level add-ons that function like fees and do not manage inventory or SKUs for add-on products or services. That is not the same as offering a product that the customer accepts into the order.

The retrieved Checkout Add-ons documentation says the extension had not yet been updated for Cart and Checkout blocks and recommends reverting to shortcode checkout pending compatibility updates. Because block compatibility can change, check the current documentation before relying on that note.
