Mozilla says its subscription covers all internet traffic from the device, supports up to five devices, and runs on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux. It is not the same product as Firefox’s free built-in VPN feature: that protection is browser-level, while Mozilla VPN is intended to cover the whole device.
The main reasons to hesitate are equally clear. Mozilla VPN’s app does not run on routers, smart TVs, gaming consoles or streaming dongles; feature support varies by operating system; availability depends on your country; and the latest independent price evidence is a dated observation rather than a universal tariff.
What Mozilla VPN is
Mozilla VPN is a subscription service designed to route a device’s internet traffic through an encrypted VPN connection. Mozilla advertises support for up to five devices and lists Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux apps. That device-wide scope means applications beyond your web browser can use the VPN connection when the app is enabled.
Mozilla advertises WireGuard, more than 500 servers in over 30 countries, multi-hop routing, custom DNS, no bandwidth restrictions and app exclusions. These are vendor-described capabilities, and not every option is available on every platform.

Features and platform differences
| Capability | What is established | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage | All internet traffic from the device, according to Mozilla | Applies when the standalone app is connected; this is broader than browser-only protection. |
| Devices | Up to five devices | Mozilla states this limit on its product and FAQ pages. |
| Operating systems | Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux | Individual features differ by operating system. |
| Protocol | WireGuard | Mozilla advertises the protocol; no current independent performance result is established. |
| Network | More than 500 servers in 30+ countries | This is Mozilla’s advertised network size, accessed September 30, 2026, and may change. |
| Multi-hop | Advertised | Use can add routing distance and may reduce speed. |
| Custom DNS | Advertised | Availability and controls can depend on the app version and platform. |
| App exclusions | Advertised for Windows, Android and Linux | Mozilla does not list this feature for every supported operating system. |
| Firefox extension controls | Per-website VPN settings on Windows | Mozilla’s extension description specifically identifies Windows. |
Does Mozilla VPN work on routers, smart TVs or consoles?
No. Mozilla’s FAQ says TVs, gaming consoles, streaming dongles and routers cannot run the Mozilla VPN app. That rules out installing it directly on a home router to cover every device on the network, and it rules out native app installation on a television or console.
If your requirement is whole-home coverage or a VPN directly on a TV or console, this limitation is a decisive product-fit issue. Mozilla VPN is better suited to individually supported computers and mobile devices.

How many devices can you use?
Mozilla says one subscription supports up to five devices. The supported-device list covers Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux. The five-device allowance should not be interpreted as five simultaneous router-connected networks: routers are not supported platforms for the app.
Is Mozilla VPN the same as Firefox’s built-in VPN?
No. Mozilla describes the free Firefox VPN as browser-level protection. Mozilla reported that Android rollout began July 28, 2026. Browser-level protection is useful when your goal is to protect Firefox traffic, but it does not automatically cover other applications on the device.

Privacy claims and audit evidence

TechRadar’s June 2025 review reported that Mozilla published a Cure53 audit of its apps from August 2021 and described the report as positive overall. The review also noted that the audit did not examine Mozilla’s servers. Consequently, this is not evidence of a recent, comprehensive server audit, and the audit’s age matters when assessing present-day assurance.

Mozilla notes that VPN speeds can slow and depend on factors including server distance and connection conditions. No current, reproducible independent numerical benchmark is established here, so a specific speed percentage would be misleading. Nearby servers and a good underlying connection generally provide more favorable conditions than distant or congested routes, but your result will vary.

- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
How much does Mozilla VPN cost?
Security.org’s review, updated September 10, 2026, reported a price of $4.99 per month. Mozilla’s feature page also displayed a starting price of $4.99/month. Those figures do not establish one universal price for every country, billing term, tax situation or promotion. Check the checkout page for the exact plan duration, renewal price, taxes and currency before paying.
Mozilla advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. Purchases made through an app marketplace may instead be governed by that marketplace’s refund rules, so the purchase channel can affect how a refund is requested.
Where is Mozilla VPN available?
Mozilla’s FAQ lists purchase availability in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the US.
This list is subject to change and should be checked at signup. Mozilla also says an installed subscription generally continues working while traveling, except when the connection originates in China. Treat that as a stated service condition, not a guarantee for every travel scenario.

Who should buy Mozilla VPN?
Good fit
- You want full-device VPN coverage rather than protection limited to one browser.
- You use Windows, macOS, Android, iOS or Linux and need up to five individually supported devices.
- You value WireGuard, multi-hop, custom DNS or app exclusions where your platform supports them.
- You prefer a service from Mozilla and are comfortable evaluating its privacy statement as a vendor claim.
Look elsewhere or reconsider
- You need a VPN installed directly on a router, smart TV, gaming console or streaming dongle.
- You require identical advanced controls on every operating system.
- You need a recent independent audit that covers the provider’s VPN servers.
- Your country is not on Mozilla’s current purchase-availability list.
Bottom-line assessment
Mozilla VPN is a credible, straightforward device VPN with broad desktop and mobile support, a five-device allowance and a clearly advertised feature set. Its strongest practical distinction is full-device coverage, especially compared with Firefox’s browser-only VPN. Its weaknesses are the lack of router, TV and console support, uneven feature availability by platform, country-dependent access and limited recent independent evidence about server security. Verify availability and the final checkout price before subscribing, and choose it only if individually protected supported devices meet your needs.
