There is no single official Google MCP server for general web search. If you want live Google search-engine results in an MCP client, HasData offers a third-party hosted Google Search server. Google’s own MCP options serve different purposes: Developer Knowledge searches Google’s developer documentation, while Google Cloud’s MCP services connect clients to Google Cloud capabilities. Choose by the information or actions your agent needs—not by the word “Google” in a server’s name.
What a Google Web Search MCP server does
MCP, or Model Context Protocol, lets an AI application connect to tools and external information through a server. Google’s Developer Knowledge reference describes an MCP server as a proxy between an external service and an AI application. A server’s name alone does not tell you which information it can search or what actions it can take; the tools and data source do.
For whole-web Google results, the closest match in the available documentation is HasData’s third-party, hosted Google Search MCP service. It returns parsed live Google results. Google’s own Developer Knowledge MCP server searches documentation for Google developer products, not the general web. Google Cloud MCP services, in turn, expose Google Cloud capabilities rather than acting as a general-purpose search engine.
Is there an official Google Search MCP server?
No official Google MCP server for general Google web search is documented here. HasData’s README explicitly says, “Google publishes no MCP server and no general search API.” That statement is about general search, not Google’s separate MCP offerings for developer documentation and Google Cloud. A third-party service that returns Google SERP results is not an official Google server simply because it searches Google.

- Includes 128GB Micro SD Card pre-loaded with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
- CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5
- CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan

That distinction matters when evaluating authority, data handling and support. HasData hosts its own search service and offers its own connection method and credit model. Google documents and operates its Developer Knowledge MCP service and Google Cloud MCP capabilities. Do not assume Google Cloud’s governance controls apply to an unrelated third-party search provider.
Which implementation should you use?
| Option | Search scope and output | Connection and actions | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| HasData Google Search MCP | Live Google SERP results, including regular results and documented specialized result types such as news, shopping and AI Overview. | Hosted remote MCP over streamable HTTP with an x-api-key header; its documented search tools are read-only. |
An agent that needs current, parsed Google search results. |
| Google Developer Knowledge MCP | Searches Google developer-product documentation. Its tools include search_documents, get_documents and answer_query. |
Global endpoint: https://developerknowledge.googleapis.com/mcp. Google documents API-key authentication for third-party IDEs and CLI agents, and OAuth or application-default credentials for supported workflows. | Questions about Google developer products and their official documentation. |
| Google Cloud remote MCP services | Google Cloud resource discovery and service-specific capabilities, depending on the toolset. | Google documents authentication and authorization, IAM policies, administrative controls and Model Armor scanning for its managed services. These are not controls to assume for HasData. | Agents operating in or governed by a Google Cloud environment. |
| Google Cloud CLI remote MCP server | Cloud CLI capabilities exposed through the Cloud CLI Execution API, not general web search. | Google documents this as a remote MCP option and distinguishes it from local stdio servers. | A client that needs the documented Cloud CLI workflow. |
The HasData README describes eight read-only Google Search tools. Its listed result types include ordinary SERPs, AI Overview, People Also Ask, news, shopping, product details and short videos. Treat those as the service’s documented capabilities, not a promise that every query returns every result type. Search results depend on what Google returns for the particular query.
Connect to live Google SERPs with HasData
HasData documents a remote endpoint at https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=google_serp. The connection uses streamable HTTP and an API key sent in the x-api-key header. In your MCP client, select its remote or HTTP server connection option, enter that endpoint, and add the header using the key issued by HasData. Client interfaces differ, so there is no single reliable set of menu labels or configuration file that applies to every client.

- Create or access a HasData account and obtain the API key required by its service.
- In the MCP client, add a remote server using the exact endpoint
https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=google_serp. - Set the transport to the client’s supported streamable HTTP option and add
x-api-keyas the request header, with your issued key as its value. Keep the key in the client’s secret or credential store where available; do not paste it into a shared prompt or public repository. - Save the connection and inspect the tools the client discovers. Use the available read-only search tools to request the result type you need, such as regular results or news.
- Check the returned result and its context before relying on it. A search tool provides material to an agent; it does not make the agent’s summary authoritative or verify every page’s claims.
If your client only supports local stdio MCP servers, HasData says it provides launcher packages for that situation. Use the current launcher instructions from HasData rather than copying an unverified package name or command: the precise package, arguments and client configuration are not specified here. Google’s Developer Knowledge MCP is another remote option when the task is limited to Google developer documentation; it is not a fallback for whole-web search.
Connect to Google’s official Developer Knowledge MCP
For official information about Google developer products, use the documented global endpoint https://developerknowledge.googleapis.com/mcp. Google’s connection guide lists three tools: search_documents to find documentation, get_documents to retrieve documents, and answer_query to answer a query against that documentation. This is a curated documentation source, not a general Google SERP feed.
Google documents API-key authentication for third-party IDEs and command-line agents, and OAuth or application-default credentials for supported workflows. The right method depends on the client and workflow you are connecting; do not assume every MCP client can use every authentication method. Follow Google’s connection guide for the method supported by your application, and grant only the credentials and access that workflow requires.

How to choose: freshness, scope and control
Choose live SERPs for broad web discovery
A hosted SERP server is the relevant choice when an agent needs current Google results across the web or structured result categories such as news and shopping. “Live” describes the service’s search-result purpose; it does not guarantee that every result is new, complete, available in every region, or stable between calls. Search engines can change result layouts and rankings, and a result page can vary by query and context.
Choose Developer Knowledge for Google product documentation
For questions about Google APIs, developer products or official technical guidance, Developer Knowledge narrows the search to Google developer documentation and supplies document retrieval and query-answering tools. That scope is useful when provenance matters more than breadth. It should not be represented as a whole-web search tool.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose Cloud MCP for governed cloud operations
Google Cloud’s remote MCP overview describes discovery, toolsets, administrative controls, authentication and authorization, IAM policies, and Model Armor scanning for Google-managed services. These features concern Google Cloud services and governance. They do not make a third-party Google SERP server Google-managed, and the read-only description of HasData’s search tools should not be generalized to Cloud MCP tools that may expose operations.

Pricing and usage limits
HasData documents a free allowance of 1,000 credits per month with no card required; its current README was accessed on September 29, 2026. The documented unit is credits, not a stated number of search calls, so do not assume one query always equals one credit. Check HasData’s current account or service terms for how credits are consumed and what happens when the allowance is exhausted.
Google Cloud MCP does not have one universal MCP price in the available documentation: costs depend on the Google Cloud services and billing arrangements involved. The information here does not establish a price for Google Developer Knowledge MCP. Confirm applicable terms for your account and use case instead of applying HasData’s credit allowance to a Google service.
Security, reliability and practical safeguards
- Protect credentials. Treat an API key, OAuth credential or application-default credential as a secret. Store it in your client’s credential mechanism rather than in prompts, source control or public examples.
- Review tool permissions. HasData describes its eight search tools as read-only. For Google Cloud, inspect the specific toolset and permissions configured for your environment; do not infer a tool is read-only from the MCP protocol.
- Keep the source distinction visible. Label results from a third-party SERP service as such. A result returned from Google Search is not the same as a Google-authored answer or official documentation.
- Verify consequential claims. Follow relevant results to their original pages and check dates, authorship and context before using them for legal, medical, financial or operational decisions.
- Plan for variability. Search result formats, rankings and availability may vary. If an automation depends on a particular result type or field, handle missing results rather than assuming every response has the same structure.
Troubleshooting connection problems
- The server does not connect: Confirm the client supports a remote streamable HTTP MCP connection. A client limited to stdio cannot connect to the remote endpoint directly; use HasData’s documented launcher packages if that fits your client.
- Authentication fails: Check that the HasData key is present in the
x-api-keyheader, has no accidental whitespace, and is still valid. For Developer Knowledge, use an authentication method the client and workflow support; an API key is not interchangeable with OAuth credentials. - The client finds no tools: Recheck the exact HasData endpoint, including
?apis=google_serp, then refresh or reconnect the server and inspect client logs for transport errors. For Developer Knowledge, verify that the client connected to the documented global endpoint. - You get documentation instead of broad search results: You connected to Developer Knowledge. Use HasData’s Google Search endpoint for live SERP results; the two services have different scopes.
- You get cloud tools instead of search: The selected Google Cloud MCP service exposes Cloud capabilities. Switch to the SERP service for broad web search or Developer Knowledge for Google documentation.
- A result type is absent: The service’s list of supported result types does not mean every search returns each type. Try a query appropriate to the desired category and handle an empty or unavailable result in the client.
- The free allowance runs out: Review usage in the provider account and confirm the current credit rules before changing volume or plan. The documented 1,000 credits are monthly credits, not a confirmed count of requests.
ScreenshotNeo is for screenshots, not search
ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server, not a Google Search MCP server. It is relevant if an agent needs a visual capture of a webpage after discovering it, rather than parsed SERP results. Its MCP tools are take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf; details are at ScreenshotNeo. It complements a search workflow but does not replace HasData or Google Developer Knowledge for finding and retrieving search results.
