There is no single OneDrive screenshot folder for every device. On Windows, screenshots are included in OneDrive when the Pictures folder is backed up, so start in OneDrive > Pictures in the cloud or in your locally synced OneDrive folder. The old dedicated setting is gone. On Android, you must select the device folder that contains screenshots in OneDrive’s camera-backup settings. On iPhone and iPad, Microsoft documents camera-roll upload, not a universal cloud folder named Screenshots.

Windows: check Pictures first

Microsoft states: “The “Save screenshots to OneDrive” feature is no longer available in the OneDrive settings.” That means you will not find a current switch that sends every screenshot to a separately named OneDrive Screenshots folder.

When OneDrive backup includes your Windows Pictures folder, files saved there are copied to OneDrive. The exact local path is different for each installation because you choose the OneDrive location during setup. Do not assume a particular drive letter or a path such as C:Users<name>OneDrivePictures.

Find the copy in OneDrive on the web

  1. Open OneDrive in your browser and sign in with the same Microsoft account used by the OneDrive desktop app.
  2. Open Pictures.
  3. Look for the file by date, file type, or its name. Use OneDrive search for .png, .jpg, or .webp if you know the format.
  4. Open the file’s details to check its location and modification time.

If Pictures backup is enabled, this is the normal cloud location to inspect. A screenshot might be directly in Pictures or in a subfolder created by the application that saved it; OneDrive does not impose one universal Screenshots subfolder on Windows.

Find the synchronized copy on your PC

  1. Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area and confirm the account shown.
  2. Choose Open folder (or open the OneDrive folder from File Explorer).
  3. Open Pictures and search by filename or date.
  4. Check the file’s status icon. A green check indicates a local copy is available; a cloud icon means it is online-only until downloaded.

If you cannot find the folder, open OneDrive settings and check the account and the location shown for the OneDrive folder. The folder may be on another drive or under a renamed organization account.

Confirm that Pictures backup is enabled

  1. Click the OneDrive cloud icon.
  2. Open Settings, then Sync and backup.
  3. Select Manage backup.
  4. Make sure Pictures is enabled. If you turn it on, allow OneDrive time to upload existing files before searching online.

Turning on Pictures backup does not retroactively move screenshots stored somewhere else, such as Downloads, Desktop, a game’s capture directory, or a custom folder. Move or copy those files into a backed-up folder, or choose an application’s own OneDrive save location.

What the Windows answer means in practice

Question Current Windows behavior
Is there a dedicated “Save screenshots to OneDrive” switch? No. Microsoft says that setting is no longer available.
Where should you look online? OneDrive > Pictures, including any subfolders there.
Where is the local folder? In the OneDrive directory selected during setup; the drive and path vary.
What if the screenshot was saved elsewhere? Pictures backup will not include it until you move or copy it into a backed-up location.

Android: select the folder that contains screenshots

Android phones commonly save screenshots in a device folder named Screenshots, but the exact folder and manufacturer gallery behavior vary. OneDrive can back up additional device folders, including folders used by other apps. You must select the folder; installing OneDrive alone does not guarantee that screenshots are uploaded.

Enable screenshot-folder backup

  1. Open the OneDrive app and sign in to the account where you want the photos.
  2. Open your profile or account menu, then Settings.
  3. Choose Camera upload (the wording can vary slightly by app version).
  4. Open Back up device folders.
  5. Turn on the folder that contains your screenshots. It may be named Screenshots, or your phone may expose a manufacturer-specific folder.
  6. Leave the app connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data until the upload queue finishes.

After upload, look in the OneDrive Pictures area. The final organization depends on the categorization option described below.

Choose how OneDrive organizes Android uploads

OneDrive provides a categorization control for camera uploads. When original folder organization is retained, a folder such as Screenshots can appear as a subfolder within Pictures. When categorization is disabled, uploaded images can instead be grouped in Camera Roll. The label and placement can differ with app updates, so use the folder structure shown in your account rather than relying on a fixed path.

Why an Android screenshot may be missing

  • The Screenshots device folder is not selected under Back up device folders.
  • The screenshot was saved in another folder, such as a social-media or gaming capture folder.
  • OneDrive is signed in to a different Microsoft account than the one you are viewing online.
  • Battery restrictions paused background uploads.
  • The app is still uploading, or the phone has not allowed OneDrive access to photos and videos.

Open the OneDrive upload status, grant photo permission in Android settings, and temporarily remove battery restrictions if the queue does not move. OneDrive camera upload is backup behavior, not two-way synchronization of the phone’s camera roll; deleting a cloud copy does not provide a general mechanism for restoring or mirroring every phone folder.

iPhone and iPad: camera-roll upload, not a guaranteed Screenshots folder

Microsoft’s documented iOS feature uploads the camera roll for the account you select in OneDrive. The guidance does not establish a separate universal OneDrive folder named Screenshots for every iPhone or iPad.

Check the iOS upload setting

  1. Open OneDrive and select the account you intend to use.
  2. Open the profile menu and choose Settings.
  3. Open Camera Upload and enable it.
  4. Allow OneDrive access to your photos when iOS asks.
  5. Keep the app connected until the upload status indicates completion, then search your OneDrive photo area.

Because iOS treats screenshots as items in the Photos library, they may appear with other camera-roll uploads rather than in a dedicated cloud folder. If you need a predictable folder, create one in the Files or Photos workflow and move copies there before uploading, then verify how your current OneDrive app organizes them.

When screenshots are not showing up

Work through these checks in order; each one rules out a different cause.

1. Verify the account

Compare the email address in the desktop OneDrive client or mobile app with the account open in the browser. Personal and work accounts can be signed in simultaneously, and the same filename may exist in only one of them.

2. Check the source location

On Windows, locate the original file with File Explorer search and note its actual folder. On Android, open the screenshot in the gallery and view its details to identify the device folder. On iPhone, confirm it is present in Photos and that OneDrive has permission to read it.

3. Check the relevant backup switch

  • Windows: Pictures is enabled under OneDrive’s Sync and backup > Manage backup.
  • Android: the screenshot-containing folder is enabled under Camera upload > Back up device folders.
  • iPhone/iPad: Camera Upload is enabled for the selected account and photo access is allowed.

4. Check upload state and storage

Pause and resume OneDrive once, then inspect its status message. A full account, offline device, restricted background data, or a pending sign-in can stop uploads. Leave the device powered and connected while a large queue completes.

  • This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
  • The available storage capacity may vary.

5. Search by file properties

Use the filename, approximate capture time, and extension. Screenshots can be PNG, JPEG, or another format chosen by the phone or application. Searching only for a folder named Screenshots can miss files that were categorized into Camera Roll or placed directly under Pictures.

6. Check sync conflicts and deleted items

On Windows, a sync conflict can create a renamed copy. Search for both the original and a filename with a computer name appended. If the file was uploaded and later deleted, check the OneDrive recycle bin before assuming it was never backed up.

Cloud folder versus local folder

The OneDrive website and the OneDrive folder on your computer represent the same account but are not identical views at every moment. The website can show online-only files that are not downloaded locally. Conversely, a new local file may take time to upload. A local path is therefore a convenience, not a universal answer to “where is the folder.” The reliable cross-platform answer is to identify the enabled backup source and then inspect the corresponding Pictures or camera-upload area in the signed-in account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does OneDrive automatically create a Screenshots folder on every device?

No. Folder behavior depends on the platform and backup settings. Windows uses backed-up Pictures content, Android uses selected device folders, and iOS documentation covers camera-roll upload.

Can I change the OneDrive folder location on my computer?

The desktop sync location is chosen during OneDrive setup and can differ by installation. Use the OneDrive settings and Open folder command to see the path configured for your account.

Will enabling backup upload screenshots that are already in Downloads?

Not unless the files are moved or copied into a folder included in backup. Windows Pictures backup covers Pictures, while Android requires selecting the device folder that contains the images.

Are OneDrive camera uploads a two-way sync of my phone photos?

No. Camera upload is an upload or backup process. It does not provide general two-way synchronization of the phone camera roll.
