To convert a webpage or web-app document open in Microsoft Edge, open the print dialog, choose the PDF destination supplied by your operating system, and save the file. On Windows, press Ctrl+P; on macOS, press Command+P. The exact destination label varies by operating system and printer interface.
If by “Edge document” you mean an original Word file, export it from Word instead of printing the browser view. The correct workflow depends on where the document came from.
Choose the right conversion method

- Open the document. Load the webpage or web application in Microsoft Edge and wait for its content to finish rendering. If the page is interactive, expand the sections you need in the PDF before printing.
- Open Print. Select Settings and more (…) > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Check the preview. Scroll through every page. Look for clipped columns, missing images, awkward page breaks, and content hidden below a collapsed control.
- Set the layout. Adjust the controls available in the print dialog, such as orientation, paper size, page range, margins, scale, headers and footers, and background graphics. Landscape orientation often suits wide tables; portrait is usually better for text-heavy pages.
- Select the PDF destination. Choose the PDF-saving option shown by your operating system or system print interface. The name differs by platform; it may appear as a PDF printer, “Save as PDF,” or a similar destination.
- Save and verify. Choose a filename and folder, save the file, then open the resulting PDF in a viewer. Check the first, middle, and final pages rather than assuming the preview survived unchanged.
Preserve or remove webpage backgrounds
Edge’s print options can include webpage background graphics. Turn backgrounds on when colors, shaded table cells, diagrams, or branded sections carry meaning. Turn them off when you need a mostly monochrome, ink-saving document. Microsoft notes that enabling background graphics can help when the preview or output does not match the page’s appearance.

Print only part of a webpage
When you need a specific section rather than the whole page, select the relevant content first and use the webpage context menu’s print-selection option when Edge exposes it. The available command can depend on the page and its structure, so confirm in preview that only the intended material is present.
Use Immersive Reader for a simpler page
For cluttered articles, open Immersive Reader when the site supports it, then print the simplified view. Microsoft describes this as a workaround for producing plainer output; it is not available on every website, and interactive application screens may not work in that mode.
Convert an original Word document on a Mac
If the source is a Word file rather than a webpage, keep the conversion in Word:

- Choose File > Save As.
- Select PDF as the file format.
- Choose a different output filename if you want to retain the editable Word file alongside the PDF.
- Select Export and open the PDF to inspect it.
This method preserves the authoring document as the source of truth. Printing a Word file’s browser preview can introduce page and font differences that direct export avoids.
Settings that control PDF quality
Orientation and paper size
Choose the paper size expected by the recipient or printer. A4 and Letter paginate differently. Switch to landscape for wide spreadsheets, dashboards, or tables; use portrait for ordinary reports and articles.

Margins and scale
Large margins create whitespace but reduce usable width. If text or a table is clipped, reduce scale slightly or select a wider paper size before shrinking everything aggressively. Use preview after each change because scaling can create an extra page.
Page range
Enter a specific range when you need only selected pages. Verify that the page numbers shown in preview correspond to the document pages you intend to distribute.
Headers, footers, and backgrounds
Disable automatically added headers and footers when the URL, date, or page title would distract from a formal document. Keep them when source identification is useful. Enable backgrounds only when the design or data meaning depends on them.
Why the PDF may not match the screen
- Responsive layout: Print width can trigger a different breakpoint from the browser window.
- Lazy-loaded content: Images or sections may not appear until you scroll or interact with the page.
- Fixed-position widgets: Cookie notices, chat bubbles, and sticky navigation can cover content in the print rendering.
- Unavailable fonts or graphics: A network failure or blocked resource can leave blank areas.
- Application state: A dashboard may print only the currently expanded or filtered view.
Before saving, wait for the page to finish loading, expand required sections, dismiss overlays where possible, and inspect the complete preview.
Troubleshooting Edge PDF conversion
Print preview is blank or never loads
Try printing another webpage or document. If other pages also fail, retry Edge and restart the browser. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance lists a missing built-in PDF viewer as one possible cause of failed print preview. See Microsoft’s Edge print troubleshooting steps.

Content is cut off at the right edge
Change orientation to landscape, choose a larger paper size, reduce scale, or widen margins only if the preview shows the result improves. For a table, printing a selected section or exporting from the source application may be cleaner.
Colors or background blocks are missing
Enable the background-graphics option and preview again. Some sites intentionally use print CSS that removes decorative colors, so the browser may not reproduce the on-screen design exactly.
Only a simplified article is needed
Use Immersive Reader if the site offers it, then print that view. If the command is absent, the site does not expose the feature for that page.
The PDF opens but cannot be edited
Edge can view and print an existing PDF, but it does not edit PDF contents. Microsoft recommends converting a PDF to an editable format such as DOCX with desktop Word when substantive editing is required; see Microsoft’s PDF reader guidance.
